    Goins' ceiling is Darwin Barney. Why not just play the real thing full time and have Goins off the bench? Hopefully sooner than later (until Travis gets back).

    Would Josh Thole even be in baseball if it wasn't for Dickey? Honest question. Even as a minor league catcher he's not an intriguing option. And now if Martin is hurt, he'll be playing a lot more. Time for AJ Jimenez to learn how to catch a KB. No other choice.

    Tulo should have hit for Goins there. If tonight was a normal day off, one inning of playing defense wasn't going to kill him. Carrera better not bat in the 9th.

    Seriously. Goins' ceiling is probably Barney from 2011-14. As of now they are probably comparable depending on how Barney's D holds up at 2B.

    Good news. Gibbons would have played him until July even he was batting .150, so this eliminates the stupid 2 1B problem and gives Smoak everyday AB's, unless Gibby really has it out for him and starts playing Bautista at 1B, or something. Domino effect taking shape nicely. Cola gone. Next will be Carrera.

    Maybe Cola was optioned for Girado to add an extra arm while Chavez is still hurt? My god that lineup is derpy even by Gibby's standards.

    The Pirates let Martin go, traded for Cervelli, and upgraded. Not fair. Yeah, the Martin and Tulo contracts look scary. I still say Dave Stewart can save the Jays from Tulo assuming he would waive his NTC for Arizona, but Martin looks unmovable at $20m per for the three years after this one. AA knew what he was doing by back loading that contract in his walk year.

    Bourn at his absolute worst is better than Carrera so not against this move. Shapiro helping out Boras guys (Bourn, Brown). At least we can realistically look at Boras guys in the draft now.

    He caught the knuckler in spring training a few years ago, if I'm not mistaken. The decision to have Thole on the team instead of him was I'm sure totally an organizational decision (iow, Dickey got his wish), but that's one guy who might be able to catch Dickey and be a serviceable back-up at the same time.

    Far be it for me to defend the Gibbster, but you have to rest Martin some times. The problem is we have this sack of s*** named Thole as the back-up because they would rather cater to their 4th or 5th best SP than put an actual MLB player in the back-up spot. I don't miss Fatty Navarro, but man, they could have signed Kratz again, or a whole host of other defense first catchers that can't hit.
