  1. Work the count and get Archer out of the game ASAP.
  2. Wow. Goins doesn't make too many of those.
  3. Cola will be this year's Navarro.
  4. Get to Tampa's pen by the 5th or 6th should be the goal here. Archer looks like he's rebounding.
  5. Dude, his 2015 numbers skew his entire career (positively in this case) so yes, you bringing up career numbers is pointless. You were defending playing him as a reward for 2015. If you don't realize how ridiculous that sounds, then I don't know what to tell you. I never argued Smoak was a star. That's your narrative.
  6. That dance followed by the call being overturned......poor guy.
  7. Colabello 2014: .705 OPS vs rhp 2013: .655 OPS vs rhp But hey, whatever fits the narrative man. That BABIP of .400 season > everything.
  8. Is that Martin's framing or the ump just calling really low strikes?
  9. That replay of Martin almost rolling his ankle was scary. Don't run like that again, Russell.
  10. Carrera had a better offensive year than Saunders in 2015. I am looking at the numbers. See how stupid this logic is? I know what Colabello did last season. Come on man. I'm saying play the match-ups, don't "reward" guys if it means you're playing the inferior match-up. It's only one game so it's not a big deal, but if it keeps happening, then yeah it's worth mentioning.
  11. Look at their 2015 numbers. Carrera > Saunders. Carrera should be starting right now, at least on opening day as a thank you.
  12. Agreed. Carrera made some contributions in 2015. What did Saunders do last year? Jack s***. Rewarding guys > putting the best lineup out there.
  13. Put Saunders or Martin at lead off and start Smoak against righties. With Gibbons that won't happen but that's the way it should be.
  14. Yes, I think Cola should have been traded. Or Smoak. Whoever stayed should have been the everyday 1B. I'd prefer keeping Smoak between the two of them, but having both on the roster along with Edwin makes no sense. Destroys the bench flexibility and Gibbons will end up playing the guy who is the most likely to regress because "familiarity" and "playoffs". Maybe the difference between Cola and Smoak won't be that big by the end of the season, but I just have a bad feeling that when Cola falls off a cliff it's going to be ugly. Tewks isn't god.
  15. Good lord the Trop is a s*** hole for baseball. Relocate it anywhere else that would appreciate having a team.
  16. Well yeah, rewarding someone if you have a good idea that he has no chance of repeating those numbers is kind of pointless. Colabello's BABIP in August was .481 and in Sept/Oct was .469. He looked bad in the spring and he has major regression written all over him. While Smoak at least had a good spring and a power/walk combo that might be sustainable. I don't even blame Gibbons here to be honest. Much like with Navarro last year, he's playing his favorites based on who is on the roster. The Jays should not have started the season with two 1B on the team. They had to pick one and roll with him. They played the fence, and now the bench is worse off, and we might have to suffer through a month or so of Cola sucking before changes are made.
  17. Colabello will start most of the games at 1B. That was known in November. Gibbons plays "his guys" and doesn't look at numbers or percentages. The only way that changes is if Cola has a terrible start to the season, and even then his rope will be pretty long. Smoak is a $4m back-up. Unless Cola is traded or demoted, that's just the reality of the situation. That's why I was hoping they traded Cola and signed someone like Raburn to come off the bench. WOuld have made more sense roster-wise. But Gibbons is running this team, apparently, based on the roster decisions.
  18. They need to appease a fan base that gave up on baseball over a decade ago. Because Canada.
  19. Keith Law is wrong about every single prospect he ever talks about. Seriously.
  20. With AA and Beeston gone is this the last of the Montreal games? No offense to any Montreal people here but what an unnecessary travel day right before the start of the season.
  21. Wouldn't shock me if the Jays decide to go with stop gaps to replace Bautista and EE. Something like Santana at 1B/DH, Bruce in RF (it's almost happened already), for example. The free agent market isn't great and they want to avoid trading top prospects. Hard to picture what they'll do without using those two avenues. Maybe a Happ equivalent on offense if one is out there in free agency but I don't expect them to be on top free agents.
  22. That's where I stand. Given what RP's are worth now, let him rack up a s*** ton of saves and trade him for a haul. He'll have four years of control left at age 22-25 after 2016. One more good season and he should have a ton of value on the market. I don't think he's ever going to start a game. If that's the case, then maximizing his value might be more beneficial to the team than maximizing Storen's FA value, which really does nothing for the team.
  23. Put him in the pen and hope he's Cecil part II.
  24. Yep. Sanchez pitched every 8th inning regardless of the situation because he was the "8th inning guy". I think it will be the same this year. Gibbons has already aped Ned Yost's lineup construction, might as well try for the pen. At least the latter has a chance to be effective.
