  1. One way of looking at it is they would have lost a pick if they re-signed Encarnacion (not their own, but the comp pick they would have gotten if he signed elsewhere), and they apparently gave him a pretty big offer at 4/80. If they feel Fowler will out-WAR Edwin over the next four years, and can get him cheaper (maybe closer to 4/65) then it nets out to the same amount of picks, just possibly dropping a few spots.
  2. Fowler and Bruce would be fine as a tandem, just make sure the Gibbster platoons Bruce with Upton (and uses Upton as a defensive replacement as often as possible). Still hate giving up a pick, but I guess if there's any year that it makes sense, it would be this one where the market sucks and the Jays will be getting two comp picks.
  3. They also traded for him last winter when he was coming off wRC+ of 98 and 88 in 2015 and 2014 respectively against RHP. I guess it's a good thing that they forecasted an offensive bounce back from him, but they seem to like him a lot more than they should. But yeah, getting him in a dump and platooning him with Upton wouldn't be a terrible option given what's out there.
  4. Fowler in a corner OF spot (where his D might improve) would be pretty sexy with his OBP skills. He sure as hell won't be playing CF here with Pillar, but he'd essentially be the back-up CF anyway. Losing a pick would suck though. Three draft picks sounds better than two.
  5. There has to be something they see that we don't with Bruce. Batted ball profile, exit velocity.....anyone know? I mean, he's a good enough hitter, but his defence is so bad that it negates a lot of it. If they get an outfielder from the Mets, let's hope it's Granderson.
  6. If the Mets are going to dump him for nothing, then it might be fine value on a one year deal. Maybe he has a Trumbo type of season when he sees dollar signs next winter. But yeah, aim higher.
  7. Eddie's agent is shambles after the Cespedes deal.
  8. I'm more concerned that Travis seems to be hurt every year, even in the minors. It will be interesting to see how his career path ends up.
  9. A lockout after the highest rated World Series since god knows when is what is best for the game. Keep it up guys. Baseball has already become a regional sport that is losing popularity in the States (and in Canada when the Jays aren't a playoff team). Not good for the game at all, but still time to work something out.
  10. If Revere is non tendered then I'm expecting the Jays to sign him. Fits everything the Jays are apparently looking for (LH, doesn't strike out, good base running, etc). Wouldn't shock me at all. Just depends on whether he's non tendered. Although he would bat lead off under Gibby.
  11. Jays are waiting for Pearce to sign his name on the contract, clearly.
  12. That's my point. They don't need lefties just for the sake of having them. Cecil made sense because he can get both sides out. A loogy doesn't accomplish that. Targeting guys who face one batter is not a good use of resources. I'm not sure what part of that is me being upset but whatever.
  13. I agree but why does it have to be a lefty? Just get the best arms possible.
  14. Is a loogy really necessary? Just put Loup in that role and never let him face righties. Don't waste valuable resources (money) on half a win at best.
  15. I think Shapiro would say no to Votto before Votto says no to the Jays. Great player, but seven more years at age 34? No thanks.
  16. The Sportsnet comments section is probably throwing a party upon hearing the news that he signed somewhere else.
  17. Four years for a reliever is risky. Good for Cecil.
  18. Just agree to take Harrison in the deal as well. Pirates will be so happy that they saved money it would probably only take Pompey to get it done.
  19. Is it even possible for Smoak to decline? He's so bad already how much worse can it get?
  20. Might have been posted already but reason to be optimistic about this signing even a little bit or FG craziness? http://http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2016-hitter-contact-quality-report-al-first-base-and-dh/
  21. His name is Trollosi for a reason.
  22. Adam Eaton would be an amazing pick up but would cost a lot.
  23. The FA market is so bad that absorbing Bruce's salary and hoping he has a Trumbo type of contract year might be more reasonable than signing free agents for multiple years. Slim pickings would be an understatement when describing the FA market. Trades would make sense but don't know if this regime wants to move prospects unless it's someone like Pompey.
  24. The free agent market blows. Suggesting better players may not be possible unless we are suggesting trades.
  25. Pagan would be a solid short term option in LF. Other than 2015 he's been a pretty solid player for many years. But age 35 is a negative.
