Yeah it would take something like 2/24 at least. I don't think the Yankees go two years, but Sabathia might want to stay there enough to take 1. The Angels might offer two, and I'm sure he'd prefer LA over Toronto in that case. Doesn't look very likely and his age makes him a risk, but I would be ok with signing him.

CC on a short term deal would be fine with me. The Fa market sucks. He might end up being one of the better valued guys out there. Either way, the Yankees saved money, so chances are they will bring him back unless they prefer trading prospects for a young starter with more control.

Honestly, this is starting to look like a very real possibility, or at least a desirable one from the Jays end, which I didn't think was the case a few months ago. If the team isn't going to trade him, for whatever reason, then just extend him for five years, live with the declining years, and continue the water treading from there until Vladdy and Bo come up.

Yep. Appease Rogers by trying to stay around .500 every year, but rebuilding the system at the same time. Not the way I'd do it, but I guess there's no other way with this ownership group.

Stanton would be opting out of a guaranteed 7/218 + NTC at age 31. If Dave Dombrowski is still a GM in three years, then maybe he could get more than 7/218 in his 30's, but I wouldn't bet on it.

It would be Reyes or bust for me. At least he has front of the rotation upside, and the Jays need that sort of talent in the AL East, especially in their cheap years. Gyokro and anyone else would just be placeholders so the big league team doesn't have to regress too badly when moving JD. Even if it's just Reyes and Gyorko, the Jays save about $13m. Gives them dough to go after a 2B/OF upgrade and another starter, while adding a 2-war player to replace JD. I'm not a fan of signing Cain, but if Rogers insists on trying to give fans hope instead of rebuilding, then make that 2-for-1 trade and sign Cain. Gyorko and Cain is probably 5 wins right there, plus whatever Reyes gives you (assuming he's ready after tommy john). The key is not to lose JD for nothing, certainly not when the ceiling is the 2nd wild card. Unfortunately I don't think we have a choice.

Batted ball profile. Grichuk = tons of hard contact, lots of fly balls and line drives. If they work on him with his plate discipline then there’s some upside there. I think he’d be a solid pickup, if not in a deal for JD, then in general.

Harvey has name value, and the Jays don’t have expendable SP’s to trade. If Texas is looking for a starter for Profar then the Jays are probably out.

To think, Cabrera was extended prior to the start of the 2014 season, even though he was signed through 2015. So he got an eight year extension when he had two years left on his contract at age 31. I really want Dombrowski to mess the Red Sox up too.

The Cardinals are a great fit. They have pitching prospects, excess outfielders, and infield depth.

The FA market is s***. Better to sign a one year stop gap than to get stuck with a bad deal.

Cashman was good before adding Stanton. In fact, I think Stanton's contract might end up hurting them in a few years once a lot of their young players start getting really expensive and Stanton starts to fall off, but for what they gave up to get him, it was worth it for the short term.

I hate Cashman now because he's so damn good, but glad Dombrowski is in the this division now. Have to hope he destroys the Red Sox with more short term moves before they smarten up and hire someone better.

Agreed. Harrison has always made sense for this team, and if they can get him for very little due to his price tag, then go for it. Yes, $10m is a lot for a utility infielder, but chances are he will get 500-600 plate appearances due to how injury prone the middle infield is, and likely if/when JD has to miss a little time as well (he is getting older as well). If you can get a ~2 WAR out of him and not have to give up much, then you can do a lot worse. Plus he has two team options for '19 and '20, so if you want a stop gap 3B to bridge to Vladdy, then he's your guy. I could see a scenario where they add Harrison, and move Pearce in a separate deal (if he's not starting at Dh or 1b then he's kind of pointless to have around). I'd prefer they move Morales and start Pearce at DH, but no team in their right mind will trade for Kendrys.

Travis has been injured every year even dating back to his days in the minors with Detroit. Expecting him to stay healthy is naive, and that’s putting it nicely. He’s a good player who can’t stay healthy. Not his fault, some times that happens, but the Jays can’t possibly expect him to play significant games next year or any year.

Travis to the Pirates for Harrison and a prospect(s)? Similar to the Liriano deal where the Jays are taking the big contract, giving the Pirates a cheaper replacement, and getting compensated with a prospect attached. Harrison is actually useful, so the Pirates may not be as open to trading him for s*** like they were with Liriano, but just throwing that out there. Harrison would have to start at 2B if he's acquired as he's probably better at this stage than Travis is (due to health).

Doesn't Diaz have an option left? They could acquire Harrison and put Diaz in AAA as depth. Harrison could also be insurance in case they trade JD. He can cover 3B and 2B, and has one guaranteed year with two option years. The more IF options they have, the more creative they can be. The whole concept of spending big on backups because the starters never stay healthy is insane, so hopefully this is the last season of the Travis/Tulo set up.

Yep. Torres at 2B with Castro gone, and Machado at 3B. Stanton's contract might make that harder to pull off if they don't want to go too far over the lux tax, but I still think they will end up making it happen.
