  1. Exactly. Pillar is more valuable to the team he's on than as a trade chip. Even at his peak WAR that was the case. Players who can't hit but play great D are not very attractive trade pieces. The Jays would have gotten something for him, but not any top prospects. In the off season I said trade Pillar to Texas for Profar and a prospect and got roasted for it. Now Profar is up to a 2.3 WAR and 107 wrc+ while Pillar is the same old dude but with regressing D. This is what happens when you don't take my trade proposals seriously.
  2. I'm actually hoping SRF throws 10 straight balls and then dominates the rest of the game.
  3. The Jays org will always celebrate 92/93 when the current team sucks. I remember they did something similar in 2009. Nostalgia still sells.
  4. I'm still not sold on Tellez, but didn't realize he had a 120 wrc+ in AAA this year. Better than I thought. Shatkins liked him enough to put him on the 40 man last year despite coming off a terrible season and little chance that he would have been taken in the R5, so maybe they see him as part of the future. All I know is the Jays better increase their food budget if Vlad and Rowdy are in the same clubhouse in the bigs. Snacks for days.
  5. Girardi was very much into analytics, you have to be if you manage the Yankees. The Yanks overachieved practically every year he managed as well. I'd rate him over Gibby. Either way I don't think he'd come here, nor do I think Shapiro will pay that much for a manager. It will probably be a cheap no name guy. Or maybe they will promote Hale.
  6. If they don't want Gibbons back then no point having him manage next season. He is either going to be extended or fired, and there's a lot of smoke about the fired part, so it's probably already decided.
  7. Imagine facing three versions of the O’s and one version of the Jays. That’s what Cleveland faces more than anyone else. Trout is always the MVP if you look at the best player but Betts has been more than worthy this year.
  8. Yeah when they call him up they won’t be sending him back down. That would actually look worse than keeping him down until next May because at least with the latter they can say he has to work on his D or some other excuse. Once he’s up, sending him back down for a longer period of time to compensate for the Sept call up would look awful. Shatkins is smarter than that. My fear is always with Rogers, but even they have to know one month of Vlad in Sept when the team sucks won’t do s***, so I’m not worried.
  9. I refuse to acknowledge any player who plays for Cleveland as an MVP candidate with the trainwreck Central that they get to unfairly mash on more than everyone else. Betts is the MVP this year. No question.
  10. Sign him to a 7 year deal if he's unwilling to sign away any of his FA years. A 7 year deal means he can start with the team in 2019 and his contract will end after 2025. If he doesn't sign that contract and they wait to call him up next May, then he'd be a FA after 2025 anyway, so maybe there's some incentive for him to sign if he wants to reach the Majors at 19 (next month).
  11. Yeah the JD comp pick will be after the 2nd round so it will be in the 70's probably. Bright side of that is it will increase the team's draft budget. Still rather have a couple of prospects though if some team is willing to ante up this month. I doubt it.
  12. He deserves to be up but I'd be very disappointed if the front office ends up doing that. Who cares about the optics. Joe Public hates Shapiro anyway and no one player will ever be a draw in baseball. It's not like calling Vlad up is going to change anything.
  13. Yeah this is the worst kind of team. Old and bad. At least if it was young and bad it would be watchable, but not sure why anyone would want to watch this crap. On top of that the best young players are on the team don't get on base at all. Hopefully next year mid season they just call everyone up (Vladdy, Bichette, Biggio, Alford, Jansen, etc) and we can at least have a reason to watch the games.
  14. I doubt it. More analytical front offices are going to hire younger/cheaper guys. Gibby’s rare in that he’s an old school guy who was willing to adapt to Shapiro’s philosophy (his managing in 2015 vs since then is night and day) so he’d still be a decent managerial candidate if a team needed one, but my guess is his managerial career is over the moment he’s done with the Jays. Maybe they will keep him around in another role.
  15. Lol you have to be trolling now.
  16. Those 2 innings by Osuna (no K's) were breath taking.
  17. Damn GIbby take Borucki out of the game already. 105 pitches through 5 innings. A win for the starter when the games are meaningless isn't that important.
  18. He's hitting 10% more FB than he has for most of his career and 10 HR is pretty much double his career high in a season. So while he's being aided by BABIP it does look he like made some changes. Jays have a ton of OF options, especially when it comes to the 40 man. Might be seeing some trades to clean up some of the clutter.
  19. Hector Perez: 4 ip, 2 h, 2 er, 7 bb, 6 k, 0 hr Man those walks aren't going away any time soon, are they? Harold Ramirez is 3-3 with his 10th HR. He's still young despite repeating AA (23) and was a top 100 prospect before. Apparently not a good defensive player so that limits his value. Wonder if the Jays add him to the 40 man before the Rule 5.
  20. It's really unfair to Vlad to keep him in the minors, he's clearly ready, but dammit the Jays have to play the long game here. Hopefully MLB can make the next CBA more player friendly, but it always seems to get less player friendly.
  21. Giles was not bad in his first two outings. He was awful last night. That's one game. It's insane to ignore many years of data and point to one f'n game.
  22. There's no way the org non tenders Giles unless he gets hurt and figures to miss all of 2019. If he performs like he normally does next season, then he's a prime trade chip.
  23. Damn one bad game and Giles already getting crapped on. It's one game guys.
  24. The good news is there is no chance Rogers will try to milk this any longer. After 2016, sure, keep trying. After 2017, eh, it's probably a .500 calibre team but those types could get lucky in a weak league. But after 2018? No way anyone can spin this into trying to compete. Maybe we will see some real movement now while the team gears up for 2020 and beyond.
  25. Hopefully Giles doesn't punch himself in the face after this one.
