If the Jays aren't going to dump Morales next year then trade Smoak now, move Kendrys to 1B, and either play Tellez (not a fan of him but whatever) or put Hernandez there.
Player A: 108 wRC+, 0.4 WAR, 10.4 BB%, 22.2 K%, 442 PA
Player B: 107 wRC+, 0.4 WAR, 11.1 BB%, 19.9 K%, 377 PA
A is Edwin, B is Morales.
This is the world we live in on August 21.
Well more than half of his walks after the trade were in one start, so he hasn't been too bad. Last two outings have been encouraging at least. Shame he was limited to 3 innings because of Competitive Walks.
Said it before, Samad is my sleeper prospect. He is going to be top 10 in the Jays system by next year. Young is having a better season than I thought as well and just turned 21.
Article on the Score quoting Davidi is saying Jays may not give the qualifying offer to JD.
Is payroll going to hit JP Ricciardi levels in 2019? Why the hell wouldn’t they give him the QO? Unless he’s turned into 2013 Josh Johnson (FUBAR) that makes no sense.
Osuna was moved because he allegedly beat up a woman and there were legal (and SJW) reasons for it. The Jays didn't sell low because they felt like it. They did it for reasons beyond their control.
If JD was healthy this season we wouldn't be having this conversation. They tried to contend for a WC spot, it failed, and JD got hurt. JD should have been moved prior to the season but they aren't looking to move him now because they want to get rid of him. It's because he's a FA at the end of the year.
The pattern of selling low in this case is either out of the front office control or just the circumstances of years of control. Stroman has no relation to either of those things so I don't think there's any reason to worry about it now.
JD was held on too long but he’s only being moved now because of his FA status. If he had two years left like Stro then they’d wait until his value increased.
Osuna was moved for entirely different reasons.
3 innings away from there being a tie for 1st place in the AL West.
Got to hand it to the A's. For as much derp as they did in 2014/15 (JD and other trades), it only took them 3 years to bounce back. That's a solid transitional period.
Biggio with 26 HR's on the year. Outside shot of 30 home runs and 100 walks (most likely will fall short though). Man he became a prospect and real interesting player overnight. High performance department legit.
I don't think it's irrational at all. Have to make a 25 man roster decision with Pompey next year. Now would have been the perfect time to see what he has. Or they could have played Smith more, or McKinney, or damn near anyone else who potentially could be useful next year. Grandy is a good dude but trade him to a contender already and move on.
Two times under AA a pitcher coming back from TJS threw 190ish innings his first year back, and both fell off a cliff shortly after (Marcum, Hutch). Marcum at least had another good year or so before falling off but don’t think that was a coincidence.
The only thing I can think of is they expect a massive payroll decrease and don't want to risk him accepting the QO. Otherwise I agree with you. The comp pick is going to add money to the team's draft pool, so there's value there aside from the actual pick. No team is giving up a top prospect for him so it seems kind of pointless now.
I forgot who said it but I remember him being compared to Papelbon a couple of years ago. He's probably destined for the pen but let him fail as a SP first. Hopefully something clicks in a starting role.
Calling it now, this time next year Samad Taylor is a top 10 prospect in the system. He will be 20 in Dunedin for most of next season. He's still very young but holding his own.
Dave Stewart accused the Jays of being racist when they chose Ricciardi over him. Think about it, without JP, the Jays may have went with Stew. That would have been fun.
How is that weird? Profar had limited value prior to this season. Not sure how trading Pillar for Profar and a prospect meant that Pillar had a ton of value. It was buying really low on a young infielder whose stock had plummeted while selling an outfielder before his defence evaporated. if we traded Pillar for Aledmys Diaz prior to this season I probably would have been ok with it, but thankfully the Cards traded him for s*** instead.
It means everything man. Listen to my trade suggestions. Profar, Tony Kemp....everyone I suggest turns out great. It's a gift.
Espinal was 1-2 with a double and 2 walks today, raising his line to .296/.383/.437. He has as many walks (10) as K's. Not missing a beat since the promotion. Maybe a Maicer Izturis (the good version) type of player? That would a pretty solid outcome.
