He took Rich Hill out when he was cruising just to bring in another lefty (who failed), then brought in Madson (who has sucked all season) knowing that the Red Sox would pinch hit for Vasquez and the pitcher with Bradley and Moreland (two lefties) in some order. Then had Madson face Betts on top of that which could have ended in a disaster.
Horrible inning by Roberts. Six more outs with this Red Sox lineup? Game isn't over.
Puig's lack of a bat flip was disappointing, but the kiss on the bicep was a nice touch. Manfred wants (and baseball needs) that type of showmanship nowadays.
Roberts is going to live or die with Madson. Damn.
Baldelli and Espada were linked to other teams. They seemed to have many options. I don't remember reading Montoyo being linked to other teams. I'm not saying the Jays settled, but t may have been an easier sell for Montoyo than the others. At the end of the day he comes from a great org and Shatkins would not have hired him if he wasn't going to implement their philosophies on the field, so I'm not worried. Seems like a good hire.
Jays are looking for a manager right when the Yankees and Red Sox are back to being dominant, and now even the Rays look like they'll be a force long term.
Baldelli chose the team in the shittiest division in pro sports. Much greater chance for success there.
Their minor league system isn't very good and their big guns are heading closer to free agency.
Kimbrel after 2018
Sale after 2019
Bogaerts after 2019
Porcello after 2019
Betts after 2020
Bradley after 2020
Dombrowski signs a lot of big contracts and makes a lot of big trades, but eventually the lack of farm system and luxury tax (assuming the Red Sox even care about that) will start to restrict that.
The Yankees look like more of a long term winner to me. Red Sox will be great for another 2 years, and then it's uncertainty.
Bauer is gutsy as hell for going at it with a woman on social media. He's in a no win situation in today's society. No upside at all, but tons of downside for him.
I’m sure he would have preferred Yankees/Dodgers but this will be the next best thing.
Good for baseball. People will actually care about the WS. Baseball needs mainstream eyeballs and Boston/LA should get it.
Of course game isn’t over yet so Milwaukee has time to ruin Manfred’s wet dream.
The Yelich trade could have been better (although still time for Brinson to turn into something), but Miami deserves props for getting out of the Stanton contract and then selling high on Ozuna. Now adding the Mesa’s. Could have been a lot worse.
