    He was an Ed Rogers hire I believe so chances are Rogers will keep him around (whether he wants to stay after his contract is another story), but I can definitely see Rogers pushing the timeline up. Last year was an attendance nightmare, and 2019 probably will be as well. I could see ownership panicking and telling him to build a winner in 2020, or something equally aggressive.

    Yeah as much as this should have started a year ago, it was probably out of Shapiro's hands. Where we are now all things considered is very good. A little bit more luck with JD not getting hurt and Osuna not being a dick, and the trade returns would have been closer to fair than they were (still think we did well in the Osuna trade considering the circumstances.....JD trade was obviously a mess forced by injury).

    Glad to see FA's getting paid. It's not just the top ones either. Bryce and Machado will get their money but the mid tier ones are getting paid too. Keep it going.

    I think teams nowadays are smart enough to see past Stroman’s ERA. Having him for two years is a lot more desirable than a year and two months or just a year. If they are going to move him then now might be the time. Sanchez is ass as a starter so there may not be a good time to trade him. Might have to pick the right time to approach AA and see if the sight of Sanchez still gives him that funny feeling. Beyond that, keep him and hope he improves. Can’t do anything else really.

    I would imagine the trade offers for those players are trash, but I agree, the half ass measures have to stop so I’ll be pretty disappointed if those three are still on the team opening day. Vlad’s service time starts in 2019. Time to get serious.

    I would have said Santos too but Zaidi isn’t going to make a bad deal.

    Yeah that's the other thing. You can't have too many prospects on the 40 man because you need to fill a 25 man roster. So adding Bergen and Romano, and then having to remove them because you signed a few FA's, or because you had to replace the talent that were taken off to add Bergen/Romano in the first place just creates more problems. What Shatkins needs to do is more Cashman type of trades. Take some excess fringe 40 man roster types and trade them for something. International space, equally fringey talent who don't need protection, etc. Makes life a bit easier.

    Yeah not sure why people are so upset at not protecting Romano and Bergen. This front office hoards prospects like crazy. You think they would have let two go if they felt they were worth keeping around? They just took a 18 year old in the Rule 5 with the intention of keeping him on the 25 man roster all year just so they could try to develop him the following year if all goes well. They were in a pennant race and still found a way to add McGuire and Ramirez at the trade deadline just to add depth to the system. Look maybe they end up being wrong about Romano and Bergen, anything can happen, but to suggest it was bad asset management is a very dubious claim. They probably just don't see much in those guys, or didn't mind taking the risk of losing them versus some of the players they ended up protecting. At the end of the day it's two relievers. Not going to hurt the rebuild.

    If we carry a 19 year old who hasn’t pitched in full season ball yet then Shatkins is definitely tanking 2019. Makes the Stroman and Sanchez talk more logical. There will be zero f***s given for win/loss in ‘19. Can’t say I mind that strategy, but starting it last year would have been better.

    Rockies front office is not good. I don’t expect much of anything for Smoak but with the Rox you never know.

    There has to be a side deal here with the jays and royals. Otherwise there’s no way an 18 year old sticks for an entire season. Osuna was an outlier and he was two years older than this dude.

    Agreed, but looking at the Reds system, I'm not sure I see a package worth doing if Santillan is the best guy coming back.

    Stroman for Trammell would work for me. Then absorb Roark's contract, sign Mike Fiers, etc, to fill out the rotation. Doubt the Reds do it, but F it.

    Trollosi is not credible at all. The Reds do seem like a realistic destination for him though. Don’t know what they would give up. Cashman apparently asked for Trammel in return for Gray and was rejected.

    If Cistulli has any say in this draft then we might as well have a Jays uniform custom made for Max Schrock.

    This has Shatkins written all over it. One year on control, innings eater, probably won't take much, trade chip in July.

    Yeah I wouldn't take that chance. If teams are unwilling to go above 2 years for Happ, then I don't see why they'd trade assets for him six months from now and be obligated to pay the 3rd year they didn't want to give him now. The Jays got $65m of value out of a 3/36 free agent signing and turned that into six years of McKinney and four years of Drury. Not a fan of that trade, but ultimately that was a win. No sense trying to get more out of Happ when the window of contention isn't there anymore and he's more likely to decline this time around.

    Man, fans hoping for Brantley or any other mid tier free agent are setting themselves up for disappointment.

    Happ could get the same years from a contender and not have to think about being traded. I don't see any reason why he'd choose the Jays unless they either decided to try to win in 2019 or if they gave him a NTC, which definitely wasn't going to happen.

    The problem with signing Happ is it would be horrible optics to sign him and then flip him. The team is rebuilding, so they will go after the 1-2 year deals where they can easily move the player if demand is there. Shapiro doesn't like free agency and definitely doesn't want to trade prospects. Seems like this team will be built almost entirely off their own drafting and development, plus whoever else they can trade for. Happ wouldn't fit that.

    Give Gurriel every chance to develop into something at that position in 2019, and then either way roll with Bichette in 2020. The Jays really need to add a primary back up infielder though. I sure as hell hope it is not Urena.

    If Tulo agrees to a position change somewhere else then he can EAD. Entitled based on what he was half a decade ago while here but flexible somewhere else? F him.
