  1. I agree, PNC is beautiful and Pittsburgh is a great area. Once the Jays players play at PNC regularly, they are going to hate the concrete Dome.
  2. I think Nashville is definitely getting a franchise. It's just a matter of when and how (expansion or relocation). I don't understand the urge to go back to Montreal. It failed the first time, and the moment the Expos franchise is revived and puts up a few bad seasons in a row it will die again. There's no point going back there. They'd be better off building a new stadium for the Rays in a better location. The one Canadian market that I think could work in MLB is Vancouver, which is basically like Toronto's fanbase (will support a winner but disappear when things are bad). But like I said, after this whole Canada debacle with the Jays, I think MLB will feel it's not worth the hassle anymore.
  3. My hot take out of all of this is there will never be another MLB franchise in Canada. The Rays if they relocate will go to Nashville, or if there’s expansion it will be Nashville and a 2nd US city. Montreal is done.
  4. The number of games doesn’t matter. If anything, the fewer amount of games will make each game mean more to the networks. If the Jays are playing the Yankees, the YES Network is not going to want a 1 pm start on a Tuesday when it was originally scheduled for 7 pm. And night games in Buffalo that ruin the TV experience would make it pointless. They’d either have to fix the lights or use another big league park. I say just use Washington for the home opener since they are there anyway, but after that if Pittsburgh is available that would be a no brainer.
  5. The TV networks want night games because weekday day games are going to be less watched and less appealing to advertisers.
  6. I don’t think what fits the Jays strengths really matters at this point. Get the players in a big league stadium with big league amenities. PNC would be fine. It’s a beautiful park and built for MLB. If there’s limited conflict with the Pirates, then even better. One underrated aspect of this might be that the players won’t have to play on concrete.
  7. If things in October are as bad as they anticipate, then they might bubble the playoffs since it is fewer teams. I doubt the Jays are going back to Toronto in 2020 even if they somehow make the playoffs.
  8. I'd rather they just use Dunedin rather than share with the Rays. Shapiro claimed Dunedin has everything they need, except it's in a Covid hot spot. The Trop is a mess of a stadium. Just play in Dunedin if Florida is the direction they go in. Man, if the Jays win the 2020 World Series, then Canada better get no claim to that title.
  9. Grichuk has a 89 wRC+ for his career from March/April to June, and a 118 wRC+ from July to September/October. I don't know if he's just better in warm weather, or whether he needs to be really bad for 200-300 PA's before he gets going, but either way, I'll predict he does better than average during the 60 game season. My other sleeper is Hatch. I think he turned the corner after the trade, and stuff is there.
  10. I think the best case scenario would be sharing a park with another MLB team. The only minor league facility that might make any sense is Dunedin, but the team/players would probably like to avoid Florida for now. Buffalo is apparently fine as a stadium, but I doubt players want minor league accommodations (small clubhouses, etc) during a pandemic, plus MLB is going to make all its money this year on TV, so if that stadium is not TV friendly, then that will be a problem. The plus side if they have to go to Buffalo is practically everyone in the starting lineup aside from Grichuk and Shaw has extensive experience playing in that stadium, so maybe there's some type of comfort/home field advantage there, but if Pittsburgh is possible without conflicting with the Pirates, then that's a no brainer.
  11. In 10 days? I'm not in that field, but I'd think it would take longer than that, and would be pretty expensive just to (hopefully) play 30 games in an empty stadium.
  12. The stadium is apparently fine, it's the lighting and the service space that will be the issue. I mean, I'm sure the players would rather not be in Florida, so if it's either Buffalo or Dunedin, I'm guessing they'll choose Buffalo and live with the bad TV experience.
  13. That's my issue with this as well. New York was hit very hard in March/April. Now they are in a pretty good spot, but have no problem letting the Yankees and Mets play home games in NY where players will be coming from different states (including two teams from Florida). New York is also very Dem, so if they are OK with it, then I don't even know what Canada's decision was based on. If science is subjective now, then we got bigger problems as a society. I don't live in Canada, so they can give the Jays franchise to Dave Stewart and move it to Nashville, and I wouldn't care. So if it's in Buffalo, then so be it. Sucks for the players, though.
  14. That sucks. Where do they play now, Buffalo?
  15. My first thought was the 2009 Jays, who I recall starting the season really hot. They were 27-14 after 41 games, and 33-27 after 60 games. They ended up finishing 75-87.
  16. Puig tests positive for Covid so he’s not a Brave anymore (for now).

I’m curious to see what happens to NBA viewership and interest the next few months. They are by far the most obnoxiously woke sports league on the planet, and in having that distinction, they are prone to come off as hypocrites because at the end of the day they are a business looking to make money. That’s why they bent over for China. They have a billion dollar business over there. I have yet to see any correlation between social justice and increase in business/fan interest. The NBA is a test for that. I’ve lost interest in the NBA partly because of that. I don’t care about politics so to have it shoved in my face everyday is enough for me to move on as a viewer.
  18. From what I understand, MLB is going to announce the # of players who tested positive for Covid, but cannot announce the specific player names who tested positive without their consent. So who knows what's really going on with the players going on the IL. Could be Covid, could be something else. Like I haven't heard anything about Drury. He went on the IL at the same time as Jonathan Davis, Hector Perez, etc, but the latter have reported to camp, while I don't think I've heard Drury's name at all. Regardless, as long as numbers are low, and testing issues are fixed, then it's a good sign for now.
  19. Yeah, a true talent .500ish team could easily start the season 33-27. In that sense, this season should be pretty exciting. Unless you're truly awful (O's, Tigers, etc), all you need is a hot start and you'll be playing meaningful games all "season", while a good team that starts slow could be in trouble. I still think MLB should have at least tried for 80 games as 60 is ridiculous, but should be an interesting experiment to see if the season is more exciting with fewer games.
  20. Not being able to trade Giles for value makes bringing him back more sensible. It’s just a matter of timing. Shatkins doesn’t seem to spend big on relievers in general, and they’ve been pretty good at identifying cheap relievers every year. Once we get a sense of the FA market this winter, it might be easier to bring him back. Wouldn’t shock me if a lot of the better FA’s settle for one year deals. That’s where the Jays can pounce.
  21. I love seeing more baseball content on YouTube, maybe MLB is finally loosening up a bit on that, but that title alone made me not click on it. Wow. That title is not even hyperbole, it's idiotic.
  22. If the cost is reasonable, then sure, but if I'm the Jays I'm not spending anything until I see what happens in free agency this winter. Could probably wait until November/December and re-sign Giles anyway.

I mean, he sent it from his company email address. If they have a policy against that, then they had to do something since the email was brought to light publicly. Woj will be back like nothing happened after his suspension. He's got a huge following and ESPN isn't going to let him go.
  24. The Dodgers have streamed their instrasquad games live on YouTube, and the White Sox are doing that as I type this. Seems like a good way to reach more people as not all Jays fans 1) live in Canada, and 2) have RSN or whatever channel it is airing on. At the end of the day the game is a scrimmage so not a big deal, but would be nice if they followed that same path.
