  1. If you can get a deal for Ramirez without giving up Moreno or Martinez, then you have to consider it, but I don't think it's necessary at the moment. This team even with Biggio at 2B projects to be a 90+ win team, and upgrades at the deadline are fairly routine. Hell, Ramirez himself will probably be available at the deadline depending on where CLE is in the standings. You can always revisit it then. The Chapman trade was so good because the players the Jays gave up, even if a couple end up being good, were expendable on this team. The type of prospects it would require to get Ramirez right now would not be the expendable kind, so they have to be more careful.
  2. Grichuk over the last two full seasons is a sub 90 wRC+ hitter, a negative baserunner, and barely above replacement level overall. Him getting 400+ AB's would not be a good thing. If the current outfield alignment stays this way heading into the season, then they really need to find a LH 4th OF who can cover CF. Grichuk being RH makes his fit even worse. We need to find the next prime Jarrod Dyson, that's the ideal type of 4th outfielder for this team.
  3. The one positive to moving Moreno is the Jays have Jansen for 3 more years and Kirk for 5, so they wouldn't be creating a short or long term hole by including him in the deal. But if he's as good as people think he is/will be, then it would be a tough player to trade away.
  4. If the price is as high as some are saying, then wait until the deadline.
  5. I don't think 4/80 for Schwarber would have made sense for the Jays. His bat would have been great in this lineup, but that's a big price for a DH. I'm curious if the Jays pivot to Conforto now or try to find a non-QO'd option.
  6. Good deal. Hoglund stings a bit, but if he's the best player going the other way, then the Jays did well.
  7. I haven't read Conforto's name linked to anyone. I think he was qualified so it would cost a pick, but with Schwarber apparently off the board, I think Conforto would make a lot of sense if the team was ok losing a pick for him.
  8. The overall quality of the deal depends on who is going to Oakland in this deal, but Chapman is a big upgrade for the 2022-23 teams. The fact that he only has two years of control left isn't that big of a deal as it gives Martinez and Groshans (if he's not included in the deal) a couple of years to develop. He also probably has some bounce back potential with the bat. The ceiling is elite, the floor is a 3+ WAR. The market (free agent and trade) only had two quality 3B options for this team, one of them probably isn't available, and the other was just acquired by the Jays.
  9. Other than Ramirez which was probably a pipe dream, this was the best 3B acquisition the Jays could have made. Lots of K’s but power and great defense. Hopefully he can bounce back to pre 2020 form. Now just have to see what’s going the other way.
  10. Yeah, Schwarber + a 3B (not named Villar) is a much more sensible idea than signing Freeman. Of course the issue with that is the FA 3B market sucks, so they'll have to lose some assets in order to get Ramirez (if available/realistic) or Chapman (definitely available but at what cost?) in that scenario. This lineup with Ramirez and Schwarber added to it is fap worthy.
  11. People will get used to the ghost runner and within 3-5 years it will be considered common place. Change usually sucks, especially as we get older, but often times it is necessary. This is just the beginning. The game is going to change, and it has to. This is just one way to help baseball's time issue.
  12. Honestly, I’d be happy if Freeman signed here and just as happy if he didn’t. It’s a weird thing where I really like the player but it’s just a bad fit positionally. We will see what happens. Baerga has been right before but he’s clearly back peddling.
  13. Schwarber + a 3B makes more sense than signing Freeman, although the latter would create way more buzz.
  14. A regular 9 inning game can take 3.5 to 4 hours to finish. Neither the players nor most fans want to see 18 inning marathons that end at 2 am with only 6 people still left in the stands. If you want to argue that they could try something different than the runner on 2nd, then fine, but the point of the ghost runner is to end the games as quickly as possible, and as long as it's only there for the regular season, then it's the right call. It's also less gimmicky than a home run derby to decide a winner, or something like that.
  15. 1. Carlos Baerga 2. Giraffe Neck Guy 3. Anyone else on social media 4. Morosi Just for accuracy purposes.
  16. Atlanta is not a factor anymore but to get Freeman away from LAD/NYY, it would probably take one more year than the other teams are offering (so either 5 or most likely 6 years). You'd have to hope he ages like Joey Votto in that case. If it happens, then 100% move Vlad to 3B, for better or worse. He's not going to like being a DH at age 23, especially after working his butt off to get in shape, and signing Freeman to DH would be a waste.
  17. What else could the Jays get if they took Moustakas?
  18. Agreed, deal doesn't look that great for the A's at all. Maybe one or two of the players turn out ok or good, but certainly not the haul that Passan was hyping it up to be.
  19. The Braves are likely better off with 2 years of prime Olson rather than 5-6 years of Freddie's decline, but man, I don't know if it's cheap ownership or AA suddenly only wanting to give out poverty contracts but after winning a title and making a ton of money as a team, Freddie was the guy to overpay if anyone.
  20. With Correa's options shrinking, I wonder if he becomes a realistic target here. If the Jays were in on Seager as reported, and in on Freeman (who aside from being LH is a horrible positional fit), then Correa probably isn't an unrealistic target, especially if he is looking into a high AAV short term deal to get back on the market next year (an idea that Rosenthal played around with, no clue if it's likely). I don't see any team giving him $350m or close to it other than maybe the Astros, but their last offer was WAY below that and I doubt they increase it that much when his market has dried up since then.
  21. After 2020, I never want to see Villar play again. Hope someone outbids Atkins here.
  22. No question that this deal could end up looking bad. Performance hasn't been there for Kikuchi, and a one year deal probably would have been safer, but ultimately he's replacing Matz in the rotation, and a lefty who throws mid 90's and misses bats is something Walker has shown he can work with. There is stuff to like about Kikuchi. I'm guessing this is what the Jays offered Matz, which he turned down obviously, and this was pivot.
  23. Not surprised. Lefty who throws mid 90s and misses bats at a solid clip. Give him to Pete Walker and see what happens.
