  1. Chaim Bloom is legitimately terrible so while historically the Red Sox don't stay down for long, I'm not sure that will apply as long as he is the GM.
  2. The Jays feed has some awful camera angles.
  3. The winner of the AL Central will have fewer wins than the last place team in the East. If not, then it will at least be close.
  4. Yeah the follow up to this will be important. They need to extend key young players as well as supplement with the right veteran pieces. A lot could go wrong, but they are in a good spot, especially since they look like they are capable of being a .500ish team already without making an effort to contend yet.
  5. Did a quick glance at the Orioles top prospects, and practically everyone in the top 10 in the system is performing well right now. Some of those position players will likely need to be converted to pitchers via trade, but that's still a great position to be in. They have little to no financial obligations other than whatever they owe Chris Davis to sit at home, so extensions are realistic for their young players at some point. I thought they should have made more of an effort to add SP in the off season, but Grayson is up now, and if he pitches to expectation while the rest of the rotation can at least be collectively average, then they are going to be a problem.
  6. 75 pitches for Gausman who is dominating so probably good idea to have someone warm up.
  7. Bass, Cimber, and Richards being in the big league bullpen while a healthy Pearson is wasting valuable innings on his arm in AAA is infuriating. Although I guess "a healthy Nate Pearson" with John Schneider's bullpen usage is probably not a realistic scenario, so Nate's arm might be better off in AAA for now.
  8. I don't think so. They'll likely have analytics that dictate pitching decisions and use them regardless of what the actual results on the field are. I can't imagine that changing any time soon. Trusting Mayza to get a righty out rather than Gausman on 90 pitches in a playoff game was likely just a way of warning us of what's to come.
  9. Jays are spending close to $88m just on starting pitchers, yet don't want them to throw over 80 pitches when things are going well. Makes sense.
  10. Schneider did what he did in Game 2 of the WC series and got an extension. Unfortunately he's managing the way the front office wants him to. Berrios being pulled at under 80 pitches and now Manoah today is going to happen all season as the relievers continue to struggle either due to excessive use or just not being good enough (it will be hard to tell which is which sometimes given how often they'll be used).
  11. Replace Belt with a backup catcher and just start the 2 catchers together more often.
  12. Schneider did what he did in Game 2 of the Wild Card game, and got an extension. This is definitely on Atkins/the front office. He's managing exactly the way they want him to.
  13. I want Mattingly to take over tomorrow. I'm not joking. No way Donny bends over for Atkins like Charlie and Schneider do.
  14. What's the record for number of relievers on one team with at least 80 appearances in a season? I feel like that record might be in jeopardy.
  15. Boone has used 3 relievers already and Schneider couldn't take it anymore.
  16. That ain’t happening on this team with this manager.
  17. The Jays have played 19 games, and yet have FIVE relievers who have pitched in at least 9 games (2 of those have pitched in 10 games). Swanson is one of them with 9 appearances and I remember at least 2 instances this season where he warmed up yet never came in. By comparison, the Yankees have also played 19 games after today and have only 2 relievers with 8 appearances to lead the team. Keep in mind half of their rotation is injured. The Jays have a rotation filled with SP's on free agent contracts but want to overwork the pen that they rarely invest any money in. Schneider taking Berrios out after 77 pitches when he was cruising just to bring in two guys who both got their 10th appearance in 19 games on the same night is ridiculous. This has to be an organizational thing. Buntoyo and Schneider are cut from the same cloth. Schneider is obviously better between the two but that isn't saying much.
  18. Passan in a recent article mentioned Salt Lake City, Las Vegas (already getting the A's), Nashville, Charlotte, Portland, and Montreal as realistic expansion options. My guess is that if the Rays stay in Tampa/St. Pete with a new stadium and MLB expands to two more teams, then it's going to be one of Nashville/Charlotte and one of SLC/Portland. I don't expect Montreal to ever get another MLB team, but if the Rays situation falls through then maybe they revisit that.
  19. This was probably going to be an L anyway with how the last inning ended, but the pen imploding here is poetic justice. I won't entirely blame Schneider because this seems like a Blue Jays issue more than an individual, but just an awful move to pull Berrios on 77 pitches when he was doing so well. The pen has already been overworked this season and the team was trailing, so what benefit was there to a switch? I don't get it, but whatever. They'll keep doing this all season so can't get worked up about it (except when he does it to Gausman in a playoff game....but we'll cross that bridge later).
  20. If only the Jays had a starter on a low pitch count who was cruising that they could have left in the game.
  21. Unfortunately this is the way the Jays do it now. Montoyo, Schneider, doesn't matter. They love using a s*** ton of relievers every game.
  22. Win or lose, Berrios having his 2nd good start in a row against another great team is the main takeaway here. I wonder how long Schneider sticks with Berrios here. No reason for a change since he's been pitching well with a low pitch count, and even less reason for a change if the Jays are trailing like they are, but Schneider probably gets antsy when he can't use multiple relievers.
  23. I think the consensus on this forum was not liking both the Stroman trade and the Berrios trade, although maybe I'm misremembering. I know we looked more favorable at the Berrios deal after he pitched well here in 2021 and then got extended (so he wasn't just a 1.5 year rental) but obviously that extension looks bad now. The Stroman trade specifically was pretty bad. I think we all just prayed that SWR would make it worthwhile in the end. Olerud's post is sad but true. They literally had a consistent 3 WAR innings eater who liked pitching in Toronto but they hated his personality so much that they spent way more money + assets to acquire a replacement SP who no team in their right mind would take over Stroman today. Just a bad chain of moves in hindsight.
