  1. I actually thought Bo would score based on how it looked in real time, but either the Astros played that perfectly or Bo isn't as fast as I assumed, or both.
  2. Yeah it’s baffling that the FO is prioritizing IKF and KK over Clement and Schneider so far. They need to use these next couple of years to try to break in as many prospects as they can and hope they stick. If they don’t have the appetite for that and would prefer a vetrin, then it’s going to be harder to develop significant internal options by 2026. Like, Orelvis has the highest upside of the near ready prospects but he seems like someone who will take some time to adjust to big league pitching. If they don’t want to play DS who has done nothing but kill MLB pitching then it’s hard to envision them having patience with others. I guess we will see. I think there’s a real chance IKF is so bad that they eventually cave and use him as a bench player. KK is more hit or miss.
  3. Practically the entire team is only here from 2024-26. With a farm system that isn’t producing much impact talent, I’m not sure that’s a good thing. On one hand they will have a lot of money to fix holes but without cheap impact talent at some positions it’s going be hard to field a contender that way. The current approach worked because Bichette and Vlad (and Kirk, Jansen, Teoscar, Gurriel, etc) were making peanuts. That’s no longer the case which is why the payroll is so high. You need a bunch of those guys at premium spots, otherwise all the payroll flexibility in the world isn’t going to fix the team’s issues.
  4. Am I missing something here? DS had an OPS over 1.000 against RHP in AAA in 2023, and then came up and had a 134 wRC+ against them in the Majors (...when he was carrying the team to the 3rd WC spot). Why is he suddenly a strict platoon player? I don't understand why the team would rather start two 80-90 wRC+ players than take a chance on a prospect who has done nothing but hit since he's been called up except for 8 games in September 2023.
  5. If they start Ernie at 3B, Schneider in LF, and use IKF/KK as backups, then that’s the optimal way to use the current roster. You could also use DS at 2B and keep KK in the OF depending on the matchup. I just don’t think the Jays can afford to give the bulk of everyday PA’s to defense first guys when it’s unclear how the rest of the lineup is going to hit. IKF is really bad offensively and hoping for one last league average offensive year from KK might be asking too much. Both as bench players would be the ideal setup, but I doubt that would even be a consideration unless their performance dictated it.
  6. You got a sense Turner was going to hit one given how many good swings he was having.
  7. The only way IKF gets less than 500 PA is if he gets hurt, so we have to get used to him being in the lineup.
  8. Today's lineup: DH Springer 1B Vladdy SS Bichette 3B Turner CF Varsho CA Kirk LF Schneider 2B IKF RF Biggio Yes, IKF at 2B instead of Clement. Wonderful.
  9. I don't think anyone is giving up on the season after 2 games. Just pointing out how incredibly mid the offense is. Prior to the season there is always hope and optimism, but actually seeing that lineup yesterday on the field is enough to zap even the most optimistic posters here. The one young player on the roster with any sort of impact potential based on the projections is going to be collecting splinters on his ass unless the team is facing a LHP, so that certainly doesn't help. The fact that Vogelbach got into a game and batted cleanup while DS hasn't left the bench yet is pretty disappointing.
  10. IKF’s signing gets a lot of the grief (justifiably) but re-signing KK coming off a good season (one he probably won’t repeat) when you already have Varsho still boggles my mind, especially since you saw how that configuration didn’t make sense offensively in 2023. Teoscar in LF and going internal everywhere else (Barger/Clement at 3B, Horowitz/platoon buddy at DH, Biggio/Schneider at 2B) would have been cheaper and no worse than what we see now (with potential be a lot better).
  11. Keeping Clement at 3B would have meant putting in Davis Schneider, and they don't want DS to hit or field unless absolutely necessary from the looks of it.
  12. Smart move by the Rays to bunt to Turner.
  13. Why the f*** is Kirk not pinch hitting?
  14. Yeah I’m not sure about bottom 10 but it has the potential to be below average. There are 4 regulars who are probably 1 WAR or sub 2 WAR players (KK, IKF, Biggio, Turner), and another who we don’t really know what his real offensive expectation is (Varsho). It’s going to put a lot of pressure on Vlad, Bichette, Springer, and Kirk/Jansen to carry the load offensively. I think this offense is probably middle of the pack realistically, but there’s definite downside.
  15. DS had a historic 25 games (to the point where he probably was the reason the Jays snuck into the playoffs) but then after 8 bad games he never saw the field in a meaningful game again. Given the type of hitting profile this FO loves (contact, low K’s), I’m not sure he’s someone the team is particularly high on, but I could be wrong. Clement’s profile is like exactly what this FO loves, so he’s probably more likely to steal plate appearances. Although it’s possible they don’t think DS is a 2B, which means he’s going to have to wait for an injury to get playing time aside from LF against LHP. If he can’t play 2B then his lack of burn here is at least more understandable.
  16. Clement starting at 3B today. Hopefully he goes 4-4 and it becomes harder to bench him for IKF.
  17. Tiebreakers are very important in the current playoff format. So if the Jays can go 5-5 during this road trip (which I agree would be fine), then ideally it would be 2-2 against Tampa and 2-1 against the Yankees. Also, the stadium renovations better be done this season and 2025 better start at home.
  18. I can’t comprehend how a team with playoff aspirations and who otherwise has been pretty good at finding value with short term vets thought IKF starting at 3B was a good idea. Dude is a career 80 wRC+ player. Clement, Barger, anyone would be more logical in that spot. Hopefully we see Clement there tomorrow.
  19. Keep it at 4-1. The umpire is treating Civale like Greg Maddux, but he's beatable. Just keep it close.
  20. Bassitt not getting the same strike zone as Civale.
  21. Bassitt better get that same strike zone.
  22. Same lineup as yesterday. Would have liked to see Clement in there given how great of a spring he had.
  23. The issue with keeping Zulu on the 40 man would have been that he is unlikely to contribute to the 2024 team. It’s possible he develops and turns things around this season but if the Jays truly felt that he would then they probably would have protected him over a fringey guy like Pop. Would have been nice to trade Zulu for a non 40 man lottery ticket but I can’t imagine he had enough value around the league for that.
  24. Home runs, hits with RISP, great pitching. Can't ask for much more.
  25. After the way Mayza looked in ST (velocity), this is a good spot to use him.
