Garret Richards's injury could be bad for the Angels in any hope of them winning the AL West or making a deep run in the playoffs. Without him, they're down to Jered Weaver, a struggling CJ Wilson, and one questionable rookie in Shoemaker and a bullpen guy in Santiago.
And their AAA options are terrible, just like the AAA team (56-75, 2nd worst in the PCL). Nevertheless, the A's just may have gained a good chance to win the AL West.
Options are basically non-existent on the 40-man, as Alvarez(Jose) is on the DL, Michael Roth is not MLB ready for starting, as he has not had any AAA experience and didn't pitch well in relief in LA either. Drew Rucinski, who pitches in AA, is the most likely candidate for a callup, as he's probably their only good option in the system. (3.07 ERA, 128/39 K/BB ratio in AA)
