  1. Basically a rental for LA to give them 2B/3B depth. Basically an upgrade over Grant Green/Ian Stewart/Luis Jimenez in the system. Beckham's going to be a free agent this offseason, as he is guaranteed to be non-tendered.
  2. Finally, someone who isn't saying "Blow it up!" I mean, with a young core of pitchers coming and emerging, there's a good chance for this team to be competitive in 2015. Still, resigning Cabrera should be #1 priority.
  3. KC's contention hopes are dependent on the knee of Salvador Perez: Andy McCullough ‏@McCulloughStar Salvador Perez will undergo an MRI on his knee tomorrow. Ned Yost still says the condition is not serious. Huge loss for the Royals if Perez needs to go on the DL.
  4. Yes, but Cleveland doesn't have enough pitching after Kluber to contend. The losses of Kazmir, Jimenez, and a decent Masterson last season have hurt.
  5. Luckily, it's against the AL Least, who we are 27-21 against. There's still a chance. Only real threat in that division is Baltimore, who are almost certain to win the division.
  6. Didn't I just say that the Dodgers don't have any extra money with $180M already committed for 2015 and a huge luxury tax penalty coming? And LA can't afford to lose Hanley Ramirez.
  7. Watching the current performance of the Red Sox makes me question that. They need a lot of things. What also is forgotten is that David Ortiz is nearing 40 and has seen declines in his average and OPS. Without him, this team basically collapses, as they lack a true power threat on the team that is consistent and not oft-injured(looking at Middlebrooks) or needing more seasoning in AAA (Bogaerts, Bradley).
  8. Detroit has a 4 game set with the Twins this weekend, who they have been mediocre against (4-4), and includes a double-header. Seattle gets Boston.. but after this series vs. Philly, I don't know if Seattle will continue to sustain recent success. Scoring was a major issue in that series. Let's not forget Kansas City could fall into the wild card. THey just lost to Colorado tonight 5-2, and they have the Rangers, Yankees(make-up), and a number of AL Central teams in Minnesota and Cleveland, who they've had slightly above average results, but not great.
  9. Elvis Andrus is tied with Reyes, and his contract is worse than Reyes, as Andrus doesn't hit enough to warrant his contract. Oh, and he has 14 errors as well. Let's not get started on Yunel Escobar.. what a huge mistake Tampa made giving him an extension.
  10. Actually, that's not going to happen. Dodgers ownership has already said the payroll is going to drop. They have no intentions of keeping a $200M+ payroll long term, and have other concerns (resigning HanRam, trading their outfield surplus and fixing the bullpen). And $180M is already committed to 14 players, before arb raises.
  11. Even though Reyes has 16 errors, he's still better defensively than former Jay Yunel Escobar (who is terrible at SS in Tampa), Hanley Ramirez (who needs to be moved to 3B or DH), Hechavarria (weak with the bat and glove) and rookie Xander Bogaerts, who ranks as one of the worst SS in the game, and will likely end up either in AAA, traded, or the outfield, because his skills at SS are awful. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=ss&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2014&month=0&season1=2014&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=20,d That JJ Hardy there is going to get paid well this offseason with those defensive numbers..
  12. Yes, it was a bad trade, but at the time, they were expecting JP Arencibia to be the catcher of the future.. they didn't expect he would implode so badly. Plus, he has the benefit of playing everyday because Carlos Santana was forced off catcher due to injuries/concussions. In addition, Esmil Rogers had had a good season with the Indians at the time. Still, Gomes' strong catching skills and bat aren't helping the Indians contend. Bad signings (Swisher, Murphy) and poor defense are killing that team.
  13. Because ownership refuses to give deals longer than 3 years after the Crawford/A-Gone mess which nearly crippled the franchise. And last season's championship was more due to career years by their free agent signings, Pedroia, Ellsbury and Nava and a healthy Victorino. Many of those same players, minus Ellsbury, Salty and Drew, have regressed. Free agency isn't impressive this winter for position players. And Boston's not paying a boatload of money for Hanley Ramirez, who is basically headed for 3B soon..
  14. And BTW, regarding the young talent in Boston.. Jackie Bradley still isn't hitting in AAA (0-5 with 3 Ks tonight), and has been outplayed (small sample size) by Mookie Betts.. despite the great defense, if he hits at least capably like Juan Lagares of the Mets, he'd be playing everyday and not being stuck in AAA.
  15. Yankees will likely DFA Rogers after this outing. No wonder the Jays didn't want him.
  16. IF free agents even want to come to Boston. Jon Lester is already leaning towards the Yankees or Cubs: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/24669693/lester-return-to-boston-a-long-shot-cubs-yankees-are-likely-players Not to mention that the ownership is refusing to give 6-7 year contracts, which is what Shields, Scherzer and Lester are expected to get.
  17. Heck no. The Angels can't afford to trade anybody right now.
  18. V-Mart just hit a grand slam off Kirby Yates of the Rays. Looks like the Tigers will lead the 2nd wild card at the end of the night, but still await results in the KC/COL game to see if they pick up ground in the Central.
  19. Basically, he'll be ready for Spring Training in an optimistic scenario. We'll have to wait for the MRI..
  20. And if that's not bad enough, it's now 6-3 Angels after all that. This Red Sox team is awful.. it's going to take a lot more than Cespedes to fix this team.
  21. What's the time frame for an injury like this?
  22. Zero chance that happens. Besides, the Angels can't take on any more salary with $123M already booked for 10 players next season, an onus not to get to the luxury tax(they're at $165M with benefits) and a non-existent farm system. And they have to pay Garret Richards a huge arb raise regardless of injury. All those arb raises will wipe out the savings from Vernon Wells and Joe Blanton's contracts coming off the books.
  23. Richards' injury really is bad for the Angels.. they have NO depth in AAA. Their best options at AAA Salt Lake are left-hander Wade LeBlanc, who is 10-3 with a 4.00 ERA in 21 starts, left-hander Randy Wolf, who is 5-2 with a 4.68 ERA in 11 starts or right-hander Chris Volstad, who is 2-1 with a 5.45 ERA Might as well hand the A's the division.. and possibly hand the Tigers and Mariners wild card spots. With so little depth in the Angels system, it'll be a struggle for them to manage, especially with a ton of games vs. the Mariners and A's.
  24. Garret Richards's injury could be bad for the Angels in any hope of them winning the AL West or making a deep run in the playoffs. Without him, they're down to Jered Weaver, a struggling CJ Wilson, and one questionable rookie in Shoemaker and a bullpen guy in Santiago. And their AAA options are terrible, just like the AAA team (56-75, 2nd worst in the PCL). Nevertheless, the A's just may have gained a good chance to win the AL West. Options are basically non-existent on the 40-man, as Alvarez(Jose) is on the DL, Michael Roth is not MLB ready for starting, as he has not had any AAA experience and didn't pitch well in relief in LA either. Drew Rucinski, who pitches in AA, is the most likely candidate for a callup, as he's probably their only good option in the system. (3.07 ERA, 128/39 K/BB ratio in AA)
  25. And that's the end of our out of division matchups outside of Cubs and Mariners series.. all the remaining games are vs. the Rays, Yankees, O's and Red Sox. Mariners lost, so we're back to 3.5 out, pending the Rays/Tigers game.
