  1. Oakland is losing 4-2 to the Braves. A loss drops them into the wild card race.. and with games vs. LA(7 in the next two weeks), and games against Houston (who they are only 8-5 against compared to the Angels' dominance) and Seattle, the A's could be in trouble. Offensive regression and the Cespedes trade have hurt the team. Only that series vs. Minnesota has prevented them from falling out of first.. until tonight when the A's lose and the Angels win (5-2 lead as we speak).
  2. True, but they struggled to score last night as well in a walkoff loss to Cleveland. And Ryan Flaherty is a huge dropoff from Machado. Combine that with the regression of Nelson Cruz, and the O's are in a slump. Luckily, they still have a cushion. Whether it lasts depends on division matchups in August/September.
  3. Cleveland beating the O's 6-0. Makes you wonder if Machado's injury is hurting the O's more than thought offensively.
  4. Regarding last night's game, rumour has it that Stroman was tipping his pitches, similar to what Hutchison did earlier this season. Luckily, we'll make up for it with a win tonight, providing the lead holds.
  5. The inflation is worse with the Angels (19-6), 52-43 vs. everyone else. And for runs scored, 145-96 vs. TEX/HOU, 422-384 vs. everyone else. If Houston didn't keep embarrassing the league so much, the West would be more balanced. And you can bet the Angels want the division.. they won't survive a play-in game with Price or King Felix (although the Jays aren't out of it either.)
  6. Lindstrom is terrible.. he just gave the Jays a big lead now. Looks like a win coming..
  7. 3-bagger for Cabrera! Danks struggled with that ball..
  8. White Sox are trying to gift Jays a few runs.. Garcia just made a horrid throw home there.
  9. BTW, Detroit leads 2-1 on King Felix and his Mariners.
  10. How much longer before Sept 1 so we can bury McGowan deep in the pen?
  11. At least Viciedo didn't hit a HR this time. 3-2 Jays now.
  12. They picked 10th in the draft as well, plus 6th in the 1992 draft to get Jeter. The 1991 draft (Brien Taylor #1) was terrible because of Brien Taylor being a colossal bust due to injury. Sadly, with the current management of the Yankees demanding perpetual contention by outspending everyone, along with caps on the draft spending, it's unlikely we'll see another draft for the Yankees like this again.
  13. Yet they can't develop bats (see Hosmer and Moustakas). Plus they play in the AL Central, with bad teams like Chicago, Minnesota, and a struggling Detroit. Seattle is inflated by playing Houston and Texas so much.
  14. And yet there's still a race. Oakland is sliding in the West... losing 3-0 to Atlanta and could lose the division lead tonight with a loss. And we'll have to wait and see on Seattle/Detroit.
  15. Hal and Hank are far from their father. They're almost as bad as CBS ownership from 1964-1972, when they were unable to replace aging vets like Jeter with young up and coming talent because they have failed to develop anything on the farm, and the decline of free agency due to increased revenue streams allowing smaller teams to lock up young talent. And there's pressure for them to perpetually contend, because they lose money when the team misses the postseason..
  16. Bautista and EE aren't going anywhere. This isn't Tampa. We can afford to keep these guys and supplement the core. If you trade anyone, it should be either Buehrle or Dickey.
  17. What Wilner forgot to mention was that Tampa was forced to trade David Price by ownership, as they cannot afford the $18-20M he'll command in arbitration next year. Tampa can't afford a $100M+ payroll like everyone else in the league, which is what they would've required. So they needed to cash him in now for younger players (Nick Franklin, Will Ahmed and Drew Smyly). As a result, they're set up for a rebound next year and more flexibility.
  18. Drabek has been in the bullpen since June or July, when the Jays decided to convert him into a reliever.
  19. Could be interesting. Drabek has a 7-7 record, 4.00 ERA, 67/28 K/BB ratio in AAA. He has also been converted to relief, where he's been a solid 3-1 with a 2.77 ERA and a 16/5 K/BB ratio.
  20. We had no choice to make those trades. We were risking losing 100+ games in 2013 and 2014 without additions. Casual fans won't tolerate that. Plus, outside of Alvarez and maybe d'Arnaud, none of those players traded have yet to produce. And considering our pitching depth, we can trade Dickey or Buehrle in the offseason. More likely Buehrle.. he only has one year left on his contract. We'd likely have to eat about $5-10M though.
  21. Terrible game, yet we only lost .5 game in the standings because Detroit continues to sh** the bed offensively..
  22. As it stands right now, the current Yankees squad may be comparable to the 1989-1992 teams, which overspent on free agents and had many draft pick busts. Maybe they do like they did to George and keep Hal away from day-to-day activities, and have the Yanks develop their farm system.. they have nothing coming in the pipeline anytime soon(position players), and free agency, due to changes compared to the 90s, make it impossible to build a team now by spending.
