  1. How about trying to actually win a game in the ALCS for once.. I mean, the O's only got to the ALCS because Detroit's bullpen was trash.
  2. Let's just hope he's actually healthy.. he's missed more than a year with shoulder issues. And he's right back where he was before (he was with the White Sox when last healthy.)
  3. And none of them are likely to sign James Shields, as all have spent their budgets for 2015. Padres are unreasonable, Giants have said no, Dodgers have no room, Marlins have said no, and the Tigers can't take on another big contract, especially with the risk Mike Illitch passes on during the contract, and they have no financial flexibility until 2021.. Definitely not Chicago..
  4. Former AL East 2B/3B/LF Kelly Johnson is back home with the Braves on a minors deal.
  5. And once again, Peter Angelos is a cheapskate.. Rasmus seems headed for the Astros instead of the O's..
  6. The only way you'll see salaries drop is if the cable bubble bursts for TV rights (which I expect to happen soon), plus attendance drops significantly due to a slowing economy. A lockout next CBA could stop the rise as well.. which is very likely to happen after the 2016 season. As for the drop in oil, it affects Alberta and parts of the US where shale oil is drilled. As for lockouts, be glad this isn't the NBA.. a nasty lockout is expected at the end of the current CBA, with owners and players really angry at each other because of the increased TV money and demands for higher salaries, despite the fact many owners are crying poor because of the rising cap.
  7. Plus, it's likely MLB doesn't exactly want to do favors for Peter Angelos and the O's right now due to the MASN situation.
  8. Jury's still out on that trade. d'Arnaud was a great pitch framer, but one of the worst defensive catchers in baseball last year, plus hasn't hit enough.. especially with Plawecki on the way in New York. And Syndegaard has yet to reach the majors.
  9. Got to the ALCS, and now won't spend on upgrading or maintaining the roster, especially considering what everyone else in the AL East did this offseason. And those players want $10M more than the O's were willing to offer.. yes, I know Machado and Wieters are coming back, but they really need more..
  10. Royals have a few big gaps as well.. many of their young players, such as Hosmer, Cain, Holland are demanding huge raises as well.
  11. Peter Angelos is a cheapskate. And most teams don't have a quarter of the roster facing arb hearings. Usually it's only 1-2 players, or none at all. And Donaldson's gap isn't that big compared to the O's ones.
  12. Donaldson: Offered $4.3M, Requested $5.75M. No idea on Valencia.
  13. Especially when they're trying to save $10M.. the players see trouble ahead for Baltimore, especially with concerns with MASN, Dan Duquette's future, and a major purge coming next offseason as much of their team hits free agency, including Davis and Wieters.
  14. Especially with so many arb-eligible players. Is it a wonder why the O's have done NOTHING this offseason, and are heading for regression this year regardless of Machado and Wieters' return? They're projected to finish last in the AL East.. even the rebuilding Rays project better. Not surprised though.. these arb raises were going to eat up their entire budget, making it impossible for them to make additions.
  15. Exactly. SF has very little depth in their OF, mostly LF.. they were playing Ishikawa out of position in the playoffs, and had Gregor Blanco playing everyday..
  16. Pretty reasonable considering his huge season last year. He's going to cash in next offseason barring an extension.
  17. Wow, are the O's cheap on Steve Pearce.. and it's not just him either: Pearce: Offered $2M--Requested $5.4M Gonzalez: Offered $2.5M--Requested $3.95M Britton: Offered $2.2M--Requested $4.2M Norris: Offered $7.5M--Requested $10.25M Flaherty: Offered $900K--Requested $1.5M De Aza: Offered $5M--Requested $5.65M Guess they won't be able to afford signing Colby Rasmus..
  18. It's still Paul Beeston until something changes. As for a long-term deal, you can imagine the Jays are looking at this..
  19. Aoki is a defensive butcher in the OF. His bat and OBP represents most of his value.
  20. MLB giving the royal screw job to the O's.. giving the All-Star Game to San Diego instead of Baltimore(officially). Guess MLB doesn't want to go near that MASN dispute.. http://www.sbnation.com/mlb/2015/1/15/7553019/padres-2016-mlb-all-star-game-petco-park
  21. True.. but pitchers are going to adjust to him. How he adjusts in 2015 will determine whether he stays a regular.. Boston is not going to repeat what they did in 2014 with JBJ and Xander Bogaerts... if he struggles, they will send him to AAA.
  22. Why is Texas on this list? We don't know how Prince Fielder or Mitch Moreland will be in 2015.. and how much does Beltre have left? Joey Gallo is still a year away..
  23. Ugh, Buster Olney... Betts and Castillo haven't proven anything yet in the majors in Boston, especially Betts.. with the scouting reports on him out, he's going to have to adjust..ditto for Castillo, who has only 40 PA above AAA, and hasn't proven anything. And HanRam isn't one to stay healthy(ask Dodgers and Marlins fans).. and Pablo's numbers have dropped every year since 2011.. he's far from his MVP level season in 2009. Not to mention Ortiz is almost 40 and heading towards the sunset of his career. And apparently, Buster Olney needs to look deeper at AL East rotations.. I mean, you've got an emerging Jays squad in their rotation, a strong Yankees squad(when healthy), the Orioles, and a strong Rays rotation. Perhaps Olney needs to also look at the weak Red Sox pitching staff.. who is likely to get pounded against AL offenses. Even getting Shields may not help.. And LA is going to regret trading Howie Kendrick..
  24. Yanks interested in Johan Santana... 7 years too late: http://nypost.com/2015/01/14/johan-santana-making-a-comeback-and-the-yankees-are-interested/ Well, considering their lack of depth, it's not surprising.
  25. And that article looked poorly written.. basically it said "Spend spend spend", despite the fact the market isn't that great. And there are still bullpen arms out there.. but the price isn't right for ANYBODY right now. It's part of the reason Shields and Scherzer are still waiting for a contract.
