  1. uh oh, time for another forum freak out. Let me get it started... WHY DIDN'T AA DO THIS????
  2. Brett Lawrie is the only one because I think he is on the cusp of finally breaking out, so I don't think we'd get proper value. We traded a #3 quality SP for him at the time, to make it worth while we'd have to get a clear cut Ace which I don't think would happen. Everyone else has established their value and as long as we got equal return I'd be fine trading them. I would be disappointed though to trade EE or Reyes only because I enjoy watching them play, same with Morrow when healthy.
  3. I agree, we need to upgrade quality not just add depth.
  4. leaffie that is a absolutely dumb question. Do you want an old and expensive non playoff team or a cheap but young non playoff team with potential future upside? No one is arguing that we'd be playoff team right now if we didn't make those trades, but that we would have better pieces to become a playoff team in the future. As it is now the team has committed to winning now but still isn't. They can either decide its not going to work, blow it up and try to recoup those prospects we gave up and we are back to where we were anyway, or they can sink more monies and more prospects chasing the playoffs. My guess is they try to sink more monies and more prospects chasing the playoffs at least for 1 more year.
  5. meh it's a stretch to call it tampering, but it is hyping up another team's player which could inflate their future contracts. Its more about the league trying to keep player costs down, last thing they need is GMs trying to sabotage each other's Arb players.
  6. Definitely would have been a nice deal for the jays considering our utter lack of anything at 2b. Infante might be an average 2b in the league but $7.5 pays him accordingly, and 4 years is not killer either especially since we don't have anyone knocking on the door. I was expecting him to get overpaid at $10 mil, and at that point I would rather trade for cheaper/younger options. But @ $7.5 without giving up any assets this is a no brainer. Even if we had to kick in an extra $1 mil a year to make up for tax differences or whatever it would have been fine, I am sure we all could have lived with anything under $9x4.
  7. Is this ESPN Insider a paid service? All this info has been out there already.
  8. Timing wise it might work out that these guys start hitting the Majors right after the run with our current MLB players is over, as long as we don't trade them all away.
  9. Yeah, looking at it more closely now cancel the prospect, and up the cash to $8.4 mil. Jays then get Uggla for $1 mil/year for 2 years, Braves save $2 mil and get a lotto ticket on Romero. Uggla also serves as a Right Power Bat for the bench. Looking at the numbers, Uggla really was the JPA of 2b but did put up atleast 1.8 war a year since 2006. Unlike JPA he does walk, if we can get his AVG back to 230-250 range he would be 1+ war guy.
  10. What are peoples thoughts on Dan Uggla? I know he sucks, but might be worth giving a shot too if we don't bring in anyone else at 2b. Something like Romero + PTBNL (Low Tier Prospect) for Uggla + Cash ($4.4mil) Romero is owed $15 mil + $600k buyout over the next 2 years. Uggla is owed $26 mil Jays get Dan Uggla at $3 mil/year for 2 years Braves save $6 mil and get a low prospect hmm looking at it now maybe we don't even have to toss in the prospect, saving the $6 mil should be enough for the Braves and they take a chance at fixing Romero. This is an all else fails alternative only, pushing Goins to AAA.
  11. True but it remains to be seen if other teams are willing to trade value for these guys, for low budget teams he'd more valuable but a big budget team would probably rather just sign these FA guys for $5 mil than part with prospects. Even for the low budget team, there is still limited surplus value on a good Lefty RP on a cheap contract.
  12. No rush to trade Cecil, he is not a FA until 2017. There is no point extending him beyond that until maybe the all-star break before he walks, never know if his arm falls off before then and if he has proven to be a stud Lefty RP then fine give him his $5 mil/year its ok to pay a couple of pen guys.
  13. Pass, I am fine with Infante and all but if we are going to add that kind of coin it should be to improve SP. There are cheaper/younger options out there who have the potential to be just as good.
  14. We are not worthy, ninja move of the year.
  15. Perception is an odd thing. Omar Infante is considered a deal at $8/mil a season yet Phillips is considered overpaid at 12.5 mil. So split the difference and I guess people would be happy with either at $10 mil/year? So are they equivalent players? I don't buy it, I think Phillips is better and if you compare the deal that Infante ends up with Phillips remaining years I think its an easy call. The only thing Infante has going for him is that he is a FA and doesn't require us giving up any assets and Phillips seems to be hell bent on getting more money.
  16. Thankfully the 5 year max contract didn't deter Ohka.
  17. They don't play Xbox in Japan, it was Wii Baseball. Please have some accuracy in your posts.
  18. Does Buerhle throw soft enough to fit into a Knuckleballer rotation? If not I think Esmil Rogers can learn new pitches.
  19. Maybe we can convert Morrow to knuckleballer too so that he can pitch a full year, and while we are at it why not every starter. 5 man knuckleballer rotation can't be worse than last year, and we can get the "Dickey" effect for all relievers.
  20. Not funny cause its true...
  21. I have a feeling that most on this board feel that AA failed this test, though some think it was because he was pressured by Beeston.
  22. Ban
  23. per MLBTR: "The Blue Jays announced that right-hander Thad Weber has been granted his release and has signed a contract with the NC Dinos of the Korean Baseball Organization. The club now has 39 players on the 40-man roster." http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/12/al-east-rumors-drew-balfour-orioles-red-sox.html Please keep discussion under 30 pages.
  24. When did he say that? Maybe was a slip and accidentally leaked a pending trade. Fact is even if he is fine with Goins/Izzy at 2b it still leaves no depth behind them in case of injuries. Can't go into the season with Izzy backing up both Reyes and Goins.
