  1. I rather keep both if that's who we get back.
  2. See, signing a guy like Roark makes no sense. He's 33, will have almost no trade value, and the Jays have plenty of guys who are young who can try to fill that #5 slot. Bah.
  3. Small retools don't work. This club needed a 4-5 year rebuild, including trading off vets. They had some setbacks ie. with some of their trades but you need to have patience. Obviously this club will need home runs with some of their prospects to have a remote chance of competing with the Yanks etc.. but it's really the only way. So, you want them to try to be middle of the pack every year? Or you want them to have a legit chance with a young exciting core and do things properly?
  4. I'll quote this when it ends up being us lol
  5. The same way they'll unload Happ
  6. Exactly. They just bought a first round prospect from last year. Happ should get a decent prospect too.
  7. lol ya Happ/Encarnacion, nice long term pieces being considered here. I just don't see the point to having those types of players. They should want the top pick in the mlb draft next year or maybe not?
  8. One minor thing, Yanks + Red Sox are in this division. With baseball teams, you can't just say the makeup of Team X equates to Team Y. Every single one of those teams is entirely different than Toronto. That's like saying, well if Oakland can do it, then the Marlins can next year lol. I get your point, but look at this roster and the holes everywhere. No one even expects this team to be even near .500 next year. I think that's why a lot of teams sit on big payroll flexibility until their core is developed and they are ready to compete.
  9. Blue Jays don't need to buy wins for next year, or even the following really. I can't see 37.5m for him bringing that back in profits for the team, 2 wins or so for the current roster is nothing, it's not like attendance will shoot up 25%. No chance. The same reason this team wouldn't go crazy to add an expensive veteran bat or arm on 1 year deal. Maybe if it was an under 30 guy, and you throw in club options so it's a 4 or 5 year deal, but contention isn't a reality the next year or two. They are better off testing internal options to see who breaks out so they have a base in 2 years to build off.
  10. Why are you terrified? The Jays aren't going to be on that level ever. It's the Angels I'd be worried about since they are more on par with the Jays.
  11. On top of the fact that the Blue Jays aren't really competing the next 2 years and you're pretty much sinking 60m into a player who won't factor into the team when you are planning on winning (in 2-3 years).
  12. Hamels @ 18m is fine though
  13. Well, we thought Vladdy JR would tear the league up, and he struggled. It's not a bad prospect pool, but there are teams who had rookies or young guys putting up higher WAR totals than the Jays, that's for sure. That's why I think this team still needs to test out and see who develops, sometimes you never know when or if they will ever break out. But people here thinking this team is even close to competing in 2021 are a bit delusional. There are so many holes and unknowns, like will Vladdy stay as an average MLBer or be elite? Can he even stick at third, who knows. There isn't much trade bait left on the team aside from Giles, so, we'll see how Shatkins can acquire more high end young talent.
  14. Realistically, you are looking at most likely 2022/23 when some of the second batch of prospects come up and at least have a year to get adjusted. By that time, Odorrizi is 32 and you still need a #1 and #2 starter as he's a 3. Hopefully some of the young guys we have might turn into that #3. Of course, if payroll jumps to 180 and they sign Rendon/Cole this year, then you probably can look at 2021 to add a #2 starter and shore up the pen/of.
  15. I am really leary of giving Stras 5+ years with that arm, let alone 7. It sucks we have to overpay in term and total money to land the FAs but I guess that's the reality of the team being in Canada + taxes. But I think this team would need another 1-2 bats + 1-2 pieces in the pen to have a shot at the WC. Add in Rendon + some others and maybe.
  16. Considering what was given up, this is a decent trade. I think Shatkins knows he's a #4 or #5 starter on a competitive team, but maybe he builds up some trade value and starters have a higher demand come the TD so we'll see what happens.
  17. Well, it would have to be bigger. In the year 2136, the population of Toronto could be double what it is now.
  18. If you're a .500 team, and you expect breakout seasons from your core, and you are tinkering around with an extra DH, then I could understand. Just makes 0 sense for this club right now. Go for guys with trade value at the deadline at least that you can flip.
  19. Ok, well EE doesn't move the needle on this team, not even close. Next year is a wash again. I just don't see why the team would do that given they just finished 28 games under .500. If EE was 6 years younger and you were going for multi years ok. Just doesn't make sense if you know there's a slim chance to be competitive next year.
  20. Rebuilding teams don't usually sign 15m+ vets on 1 year deals. EE has little to no trade value, unless he's coming here super cheap.
  21. All we know is, scouting is pretty decent so far based on picks, just Atkins is not a good negotiator which is evident in the Grichuk signing and his trades. So why is he still here?
  22. That will always be true, but that still doesn't dismiss the fact that Atkins isn't good either.
  23. I think you guys are forgetting this is for friggin Chris Martin lol who is 33 years old. It really does prove just how bad Atkins is though if guys like Chris Martin are getting the Braves #5 prospect.
  24. uh Kay is 24, Allard is 21. Usually if you haven't broken into the majors by 24-25, you get shot down on the totem pole. I think the fact Allard is 3 years younger and still can develop would make him far more valuable.
  25. Usually the people who call other people racists are the real racists themselves. Does anyone remember another BJ who was traded who threw a tantrum before they left? I honestly can't recall anyone recently.
