  1. The Andrus deal is very bad. Texas should have waited on him but I think there's an opt out in his deal, maybe it's a player one. But, you don't know what their budget will be in 2 years from now, they could easily have more flexibility than the Jays depending on their ownership. With their TV deal, and the quality of their team, I see them spending a lot of money for the near term to maintain their competitiveness. The Jays on the other hand, we have no clue where the team's internal spending cap will be in 2 years. It could drop to 100m for all we know and they might still make a bad trade or two before then or sign an overpaid vet etc... It's not like they are going to be competitive this year, who knows what will happen.
  2. thought Nav should have had that last one, another wild pitch though
  3. Thought that was out of here because that pitch was in EE's sweetspot.. Just missed it.
  4. They might have sucked last year, but someone on the forums is projecting 4/5 of the Jays staff to have ERAs under 4 !! lol That would probably make them the top team in the east with their hitting.
  5. He was quite inconsistent. I think most of us expect him to get injured at some point this season anyways.
  6. Does Melky have a NTC or anything to prevent him from being moved at the deadline when the Jays will be well out of it?
  7. You guys make it seem like Santana was the missing link to winning the world series. So it's a couple of wins out the door, if that even, depending on what version of Santana pitches this year. In all honesty, he was just being looked at as an innings eater, possibly a decent one, but possibly a crappy one too. The jays have enough guys waiting to pitch and 'eat up' innings. Buerhle eats up innings, it's not the end of the world. It's a 1 year deal, not much changes. There will be better options next year, and hopefully this translates into a better slot in the draft the next year. One of these years the Jays will hit a homerun in the draft, I feel it.
  8. The Jays are only capable of signing minor leaguers, that's the problem.
  9. They have a good system of developing talent and scouting. I was thinking the same. If it was the dodgers or anyone else, I wouldn't have cared as much.
  10. That's a pretty good fkn question. Tweet that to AA.
  11. Good luck with the Twins Santana. That would be so dumb for the jays to lose a pick and not have the right to QO him after only having him for 1 year. Does he think his value to this club over 1 year is so incredibly important that they should sacrifice that for him? lol like as if he's the missing link to the Jays winning the world series. Please pass on him if this is true.
  12. Ah, another one we were linked to that signed elsewhere. Looks like a 4 year deal.
  13. Ya it's true, he'd probably put up good numbers with them. Ok so the Rockies or Astros then.
  14. Would be amazing if the Jays and Orioles pull their offer and he has to sign a 1 year 8m deal with like the pirates or rockies, teach him and his agent a lesson
  15. If the Jays did make an offer, it most likely has an expiry that is def not 2 months. Could be 24hrs, could be 3-5days but obviously nothing too long.
  16. He's had the entire offseason for that. At this point, using the jays contract as leverage for other teams is BS. 0 chance he resigns here if he's acting like this already. The whole deadline thing is so amateur anyways if it was ever true to begin with, especially reneging on it, just shows his character.
  17. Well, if the padres signed him, was there 1st protected? But yes, I would have liked JJ over santana if the money was there. Considering JJ was also going to be here on a 1 year deal if they QOd him. But nothing this team does surprises me anymore, it's as if they do things to get the least value.
  18. I'm astonished this is a 150+ team that most likely is still at about around an 82w team.
  19. He passed a medical in signing with the Padres and an MRI would show a shoulder tear. His issue with tightness in his forearm/elbow are related because he said he changed his mechanics to compensate for the soreness he felt. Right now, he says he's feeling better than last year and they are already working on his mechanics to bring him back to where he used to be. Listen, it's all opinion on how he will perform until he does, my belief is that if this team had 14m for a pitcher, we should have just QOd JJ.
  20. JJ offered way more upside than Santana. Both pitchers have risk, but knowing that JJ had his problem fixed and didn't cost a draft pick we should have just kept him. I still am not understanding why we didn't QO him. If the money is there, then I can't figure out the jays FO.
  21. First he had bone chips removed that he said he was uncomfortable pitching with last year. Second, he himself has said he feels just as good as he did before. He already pitched 2 scoreless innings with 2ks. I think he will do better than 4/5 of the jays pitchers and be a solid #2 guy for them.
  22. Since he's not with the jays now, you know he's going to have a come back year and put up better numbers than 4/5 of the jays' pitchers.
  23. Right, but 14m, plus a loss of a 2nd rounder, for a possible 2 more wins, so we go from likely 78 to maybe 80 wins and still not make the playoffs? He's been a bit inconsistent and gives up a lot of hrs. It probably makes more sense to get a better slot for a draft pick then for a meaningless extra win or so, because at the end of the year, it still is a non playoff team even with him.
  24. I can't see it being the Yanks. I think they'd have gone for Drew over Santana. Plus Pineda looked amazing in his outing the other day, looked like a top 2 guy. So they have their pitching all set now. I'm leaning towards the Mariners or the Jays.
  25. It doesn't make much sense for the blue jays to give up their pick and sign him at this point. They are going to finish in last even with Santana on the team. How much better does he really make this team, very very slightly better. If he's available in June or wherever there's no pick attached then re-examine it then. At this point, this is a last placed team, why spend more money on it for it to still be in last place or second to last?
