  1. Major bump on this thread... Descalfani will become the first of the minor league SP's traded away in the "Great" offseason of 2012/13 to make his Major League debut tonight. Nicolino and Syndergaard are still in the minors with their respective organizations. Will be interesting to see how these guys fare, since it was the minor league pitching talent that was the backbone of our vaunted minor league system prior to the trades, and what we've complained about the most, since the bust of the 2013 season. DeScalfani was probably the least touted of the SP's, but was decent in Double-A the past couple of years. He's in his age 24 year, so makes sense that he is promoted ahead of Nicolino. They say you cant judge these types of trades until a few years later once the prospects have established what they're going to be....so here goes....
  2. 3 Walks in 5 games this month. OBP Machine. Maybe the Rangers will trade for John Buck, and play him in front of JPA. Somewhere, Cito would be smiling.
  3. Drew to SS, XB to 3rd. Middlebrooks/Herrera have been terrible at Third.
  4. Looks that way now, but I think the Red Sox will end up going on a good run here soon. Their pitching has been pretty good, other than Buchholz. I believe that they'll sign Drew after the draft, when the draft pick comp is gone (imagine that, a team spending money to fill their holes!!) to solidify the left side of the infield. And their Pen has been amazing with Uehara and Miller making it a 6 inning game essentially.
  5. Pythagorean Win-Loss: RS 199 RA 183 pW% .542 Projected Wins 88 Projected Losses 74
  6. UPDATE. Approx. 25% Mark of the season. 40 GP. Jays are 20-20, .500, 2nd Place (Tie with NYY/BOS), 1.5 GB the Orioles in the AL East, 5-Way Tie at 0.5 GB the Mariners for the 2nd WC spot. Current Pace: 81 Wins. No one predicted 81, but bowld, Eddiek19, King, Olerud363, John_Havok, and Gen.disarray are the closest with either 80 or 82. 7. Aside from Rasmus, Oonly our 2 backup Infielders (Diaz and Tolleson) can play CF. True story.
  8. This. Seriously, if I had it to do over again, I wouldve become a Yankee fan. Sure, the high was great in the early 90's, but the 23 year hangover that ensued filled with misery and frustration...and now im just stuck. I would not wish it on my worst sports fan enemy.
  9. Either Tolleson, or most likely Kratz will go down. Thats my guess.
  10. We're talking spare parts here in Getz, etc. so not getting all riled up, but this is ridiculous actually. 8 relievers, 3 catchers, and 1 guy (Tolleson) to backup at all of the infield and all of the outfield spots??
  11. Thats the biggest problem really with this franchise, post 1993. Its perpetually caught up in No Mans Land. They wont ever break the whole thing down like the Marlins or Houston, but wont ever spend like the Yankees over a sustained period, so we're caught in the middle. I personally think thats the sweet spot for profitability for Rogers, but who knows. We'll never be told that, but if they can keep to around say $90-100mil payroll, win just enough to keep the ratings high so advertisers buy in, say 75-85 wins a year, and max out on profit...they're gonna do it, World Series/Playoffs be damned. Pre-Rogers, Post-World Series teams...thats when this team shouldve broken it all down. If you look at the players we got nothing for Molitor, Carter, Alomar, very little for Olerud. Then the tier after that, when Gord Ash, and his Canadian Inferiority Complex would not trade for prospects, because he didnt want Toronto to be known as anything but a large market team, left us with not-good-enough veterans when we dealt Green (for Mondesi), Clemens (for Wells), Wells (for Sirotka), etc etc. Huge missed opportunity there.
  12. Lets pick up the options on Morrow and Happ, and have 25mil of 2015 salary go to Romero, Morrow, and Happ. Winning plan?
  13. We'd have to throw in our Manager.
  14. How do you break an elbow? Did he get hit with a ball or bat?
  15. I remember watching Yankee games on TV in the late 80's/1990 in Toronto, when we got WPIX to come through grainy, and Wayne Tolleson (Steve's Dad) was their starting 2nd baseman for a bit. Those were the days. The Yankees were perennially in last place, and it was a treat when you could see another team's games on TV. This was before the MLB.TV obviously, before the WGN, WSBK, TBS superstations came to canadian cable, and TSN didn't pick up ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.
  16. I dont really get the point of Tolleson. I am thinking its more of a trading defense for offense, but Diaz was pretty huge with the glove, and looking back at minor league stats, both him and Tolleson have similar (s*****) numbers.
  17. I think Rasmus is just streaky and a slow starter. He'll always strike out a lot, but if you look at his splits from last year April - 238 .297 .440 .737 May - 263 .330 .463 .793 June - .224 .313 .459 .771 July - .371 .413 .588 1.001 Then his injuries hit. I am confident he'll come out of it soon.
  18. Game is delayed because of rain. Get Stro on a plane to KC, he can throw an inning or two tonight.
  19. Glad to see AA has realized the deficiency at the position and moved quickly to upgrade. #owait.
  20. DAMN IT Blue Jays-Official ‏@BlueJays 18s The @BlueJays select the contract of 2B CHRIS GETZ from @BuffaloBisons. To make room on 40-man roster RHP MICKEY STOREY has been released.
  21. Of course they will announce the move right after I post this...but shouldn't the Jays have announced the move already to get Getz on the 40-Man roster? If its just paperwork to remove one of Storey, Rasmussen, etc., why haven't they announced it yet? A larger move in the works perhaps??????????????????????????
  22. Somewhat related...if anyone watched the A's Rangers on ESPN last night, how good is Sonny Gray. He's often used as a comp for Stroman (I think AA has said it himself). I'm a Jays fan, so I dont expect things to ever go that well, but if Stroman can come up and deliver the way Gray has, it will be a huge boost.
  23. At least this due to defensive metrics.
