  1. No we can't. People are excited about what next year could bring given that the whole offence is back and we get Travis for a whole year (maybe). So, it's interesting to discuss what sort of things we can do to make the team a solid WS contender next year too
  2. To be fair I'm suggesting that they don't qualify Buehrle, which would give them two. I don't believe much in these $war metrics but according to fangraphs Estrada has been worth 12.4 mil this year, bump that up to about 13.5 for ros + inflation and having a guy for one year is solid, with the chance he doesn't accept and you get a pick (maybe) seems fairly safe.
  3. They aren't going to deal with the bitching Jose will come up with if they move him to RF. They're either going to extend him this year or it will be his FA year and they won't want to burn that bridge by pushing him to 1b this year.
  4. Actually another interesting option is Samardzjia. He's no ace and if the White Sox don't qualify him (It's uncertain at this point) you can maybe grab him for a solid 2 year deal
  5. I dont think they qualify Buehrle, but may do it with Estrada. Gives them a decent guy for $16 mil for 1 year, which is probably exactly what they're looking for. Hard to get 1 year guys in the FA market really. Not sure Estrada will accept it coming off a career year though. Buehrle just seems to be done at this point so it's hard to imagine they qualify him, but I have to believe they grab one of Buerhle/Dickey for the innings factor (which is likely more important than people around here think)
  6. This is why I asked about Revere , with him we don't really need another
  7. I just assume they won't be in on Price so that seems unlikely I would pick up Dickey's option, sign Estrada, sign Lowe to close (or move Sanchez there), get Osuna back into a starting gig, and maybe sign a cheaper shorter term SP such as Kazmir. If we still have Revere then figure out how to get Pompey significant playing time, otherwise call Pompey up. While I would love for them to sign Price for the next 3-5 years, there's no way that he doesn't end up being a disaster later in any deal he gets (I'm assuming he gets like 9 years 260 mil or so) The team looks really solid for next year regardless, because the entire O is back
  8. Is Revere back for another year?
  9. So my general point that stat 'smart' fans as alluded to by the other guy will in many cases prefer Price, and all the old men (as described) should strictly prefer him Seems like he should be the favourite
  10. Aren't these somehow incorporated with other stats into WAR?
  11. I might be wrong here but what stat does Sale dominate Price in? Price has the same WAR + the older voter stats (which should still be relevant somewhat to the discussion). I guess you're going by k's?
  12. Haven't heard anything but the fact he's not on the DL, looked good in the dugout suggests that they're being more cautious than necessary and I suspect if the division looks to slip away you'll see him in there
  13. Except they score more runs per game and give up less so it's pretty clear
  14. The only thing I really don't like about him is his infatuation with intangibles. With that said, we can't really fault him, he has built a pretty damn good team for us to watch. His best skill (to me) seems to be his creativity, where he pulls random (and often good) deals out of his ass. I'm still of the opinion that the Marlins and Mets trades were not entirely on him, and his hand was forced to build a winner. I also think the Marlins trade is unreasonably viewed as terrible around here, it was a reasonable trade for what they were looking to do. Mets trade obviously felt like a disaster at the time and is even worse now, but nobody he was expecting how bad Dickey ended up being last 2 years
  15. I think the interest he had in Martin was related to the nerds. Other three are as you said
  16. That would be risky for them. Chance those guys get hurt while being thrown at is pretty low, but I think MLB might be pretty quick with a suspension because of the reputation they have this year and the fact it would obviously be on purpose. Ump may also not give any warning on an ejection = getting to their pen quickly in game 1. I would imagine that stuff shows up later in the series
  17. He may actually be obligated to talk to them. Also could simply be the case that once it came out they just paid the for it all to make it go away (an easy price to pay to save bad PR). The store could have even just paid him since this isn't the best PR for them (esp with how much attention the Jays are getting), who knows, maybe they never even knew Travis ended up actually paying for it?
  18. If Goins is the worst player in our lineup we're fine. Can't have an all-star everywhere and he brings some big positives
  19. For an offense as strong as ours that's a pretty weak lineup they're putting out there
  20. It would be really stupid if they actually have Kawasaki up here just because he's a 'good clubhouse guy'. Most of the team this year is new and probably don't know/care about his antics anyway...
  21. DH him then? They don't have that many games left to catch the Yankees, need to get the best lineup they can out there daily
  22. Doesn't need to be the case. Can still deal him of course
  23. I don't get why they would bring up Kawasaki over Valencia? Both are back-up 2b/3b with Goins being the back-up SS (if something happens to Tulo) Makes no sense at all to me.
