  1. Not great for us in the next few years, but hard to see that being a good contract for them in a few years
  2. We talk a lot here about moving Jose to 1b, but i'm curious what you think (as one of the better posters) of moving him to LF instead and getting rid of Revere? Obviously a bit of a defensive hole but his bat plays up more there and lets us keep a more potent lineup
  3. Anyone who thinks they're going to blow this team up this year is out of their mind. If they're even decent, they won't blow it up in 2017 either... it's hard to imagine Rogers lets this team go back to mediocrity so easily
  4. Agreed, except the bad part of the board also comes out (the reliance on one infallible number to evaluate)
  5. I'm saying that your particular question is difficult to answer, and that it's close enough (Donaldson vs Trout) to not be able to say with any certainty at all, and so the traditional stats and story are good enough of a reason to put JD above Trout
  6. Who ignored wrc+? The difference is driven by park factor, which is noisy.
  7. Good choice by the voters not succumbing to statistical noise. JD has more doubles, same amount of HR's, and struck out less leading to more opportunities to help his team score. Doesn't even count the production type numbers, which he was insane in (yes I know, lineup is better). Pretty much park factor is all that saves Trout in the stuff you guys are looking at (wrc+), but most of JD's home runs were no doubters. I see these two are virtually a tie, so a better story should give it to JD
  8. I agree with Jose, but Edwin could be a solid piece if they manage to get him on a short (like 3 year) contract. Depends on what the rest of the team looks like, though.
  9. He made it to the ALCS without a massive payroll (i.e. borderline top 10 one) and put the Jays in ok shape (they aren't looking great in 3 years, but they aren't looking completely miserable, either). He's not this all-star GM people pretend he is, but he's definitely decent
  10. Well given they were negotiating a contract, if it was important to both sides it would come up very quickly
  11. Probably confident he can get something else and sees himself in a high position where he can control what he does as GM, it may backfire though if he can't find any teams willing to give him full reins Other thing is he could see the Jays as a team that will be good for 1-2 more years and then have a rough rebuild, and may want to go to a team in a better position. It's funny because doing what he's doing (leaving a team after selling the farm) could be a good way to have a very successful career - just build up a team by trading away their prospects, leave before they get bad and repeat
  12. With more answers to the same questions it's starting to seem as though it was a power struggle
  13. Good feeling?
  14. While both were good players, Swisher was (32?) and Bourn was a (29?) year old speedster, so I would say a top tier GM may have thought of this, and I'm sure it was brought up when they were making these decisions that both could decline, so I would say it was at least something they were talking about, and so predictable
  15. I was just mentioning some flexible options they had regarding payroll, but thanks for mentioning that, I didn't know actually!
  16. Payroll is at least going to go up a bit They can replace Navarro with just about anybody, and whoever they replace Buerhle with won't cost as much and Dickey. They also paid Ricky Romero a bunch of money. I agree with you in that if they don't increase payroll a bit they won't sign Price, but if they want him they can definitely afford him, I think the idea is they're probably better off getting two lesser pieces who, when combined, cost the same amount (or maybe even more)
  17. Cleveland is a good example where payroll limitations hurt them. They have a nice core build can never fill it with the extra pieces. With that said, you can't build a win only through the draft (even the teams you will cite had trades/some signings), and he made two pretty awful ones with Swisher and Bourn. I like the idea of building from the farm, but you still need to find the right guys to sign to win, especially with our relatively inflated payroll
  18. What about if they decide to subtract Dickey, Buehrle and Navarro?
  19. Just not sure if any competitive team (probably what Jose is looking for at this point) would be willing to play him on any significant deal starting in 2017 at RF. I can see a bad team doing it, but probably not a good one. And if they sign him to play RF and move him, I feel sorry for their media because he'll go nuts. Actually, once I think about it I wonder how Jose Bautista's terrible attitude will affect his 'legacy contract'. Honestly I can't say I follow how much other players talk about their team's management etc, but given that Jose is about 10x more vocal than any other player I remember for the Jays, I can only imgaine he's one of the worst in the league for that, and it may cost him some money and years
  20. The real question is here is AA+Gibby versus Manager+new GM, I'm feeling like Gibby is probably a big enough negative (mostly based on his playoff decision making) to make it worthwhile. I'm sure Shapiro was cringing during the playoffs too
  21. Getting rid of Edwin or Bautista are not good ideas. If he gets rid of them he will be justly hated in the city. Should try to re-sign them again to team friendly deals, since they're both relatively old. I just wonder with Jose and whether or not he's willing to move to 1b/dh, in my opinion Edwin should be an easy sign
  22. Ya but it's 100% that he would have more money here so we don't get any information from that I still like this move only because it seems to spell the end of Gibby. I defended Gibby a fair amount during the season, but if we're a playoff team (and I think we are for next year), you really can't have him managing the team
  23. It's a bit early to guess, but given that status of Ventura versus Bautista (and Edwin), does anybody think this sort of stuff could keep him off a WBC roster? Jose is a bit of a bitch himself so might refuse to play with him
  24. Hard to know for sure but they won't need to increase it too much to be as competitive, so the amount they actually get to may not be that important Assuming they pick up Dickey's option, re-sign Estrada, don't pick up Buehrle's option and sign one other starter, add in some arb raises and (probably) a signing of Donaldson I would guess we're looking at about 150 mil
  25. Ya, I'm not pissed but they definitely didn't play as well in the ALCS as they did the second half of the season, so that's disappointing
