  1. He is 23 and under AZ control until 2029. I don't think they were too worried about his slow start in '23. We bought high at the time for a 2022 4.8 WAR now 27 year old Varsho through the 24, 25 and 26 seasons. He is been great on D and the bat has come on after an awful start. Move him to CF next year. He is a player you have to work hard not to like. Makes me wish we could have sold high on Kirk. But who knows what other teams valued him last year though.
  2. Said this last night in GDT. He is just quietly eating outs for us. He has been the pick up and then some that Hand wasn't in 2021.
  3. Thats whats confusing about DeJong being acquired and then DFA'ed when Espy could have been optioned. FO couldn't have had much confidence in Espy at SS for any sustained period. Might as well roll with Clement @ SS.
  4. Cabrera just being consistently effective eating outs. Found money by FO.
  5. Ya, he is a very solid player but i dont want to see us bring him back on any over pay another year older.
  6. Clemens deserves to be in the HOF. His 97 and 98 seasons in TOR he was about the best thing we had going. 133 career fWAR lol
  7. Right now yes. 2/3 of last season Bo was a league average bat. Things can change. Aside from the "mirage" in 2021, Vlad also had a higher wRC+ than Bo in 2022. Some teams are always going to be willing to pay believing they can untap more value in Vlad again at his age with his bat speed and exit velocities. Save the concern for his body type, I think Vlad's tools age better than Bo's given Bo's high chase and low BB rates.
  8. lol, We rollin' now. Back up to "just get in and anything can happen!" on the panic meter.
  9. You can say the same thing about Vlad next deadline. Don't disagree. Some big decisions ahead. Lots will depend on where the team is in 2024.
  10. Nice swing by Vlad. Clutch hit. Good to see Springer get a little BABIP luck too.
  11. Bo is locked up for 2 more years on a good deal for both. I think he is going to test FA given his confidence in himself. All for signing him, but what do you pay a 28 yr old FA SS who is bottom third defensively at 25, and who has a 3rd percentile BB rate and 10th percentile chase rate. His bat to ball skills are elite but thats not easy to sustain.
  12. All comes out in the wash. Through 2020-2022 he put up 142, 132 and 129 wRC+ seasons. Not too shabby. Those 2022 two home runs in the playoffs in game 2 vs Seattle would be going down in Jays lore if the team didn’t blow it, and came back to win that series. Too bad.
  13. I don't think they are anti FO. Fans chase winners and recency bias abounds. Fans in NY and Bos are even more demanding/fickle. I'm not a huge fan of this FO and I cant stand listening to Ross, but they are definitely smart, more than competent and very professional. This is a 90 ish win team. You can debate a lot of things about their decisions including this year at the deadline, state of the farm, trades of players/prospects, quality of picks, cost of team, FA signings etc etc, but overall they are solid and put together a pretty well constructed team. I have a hard time putting it on the coaching staff when the FO chose them, and has stuck with them. It was only last year Ross fired Charlie. If they win they are all Pat Gillicks, Citos, Beestons and on the LOE. There is only one reason Joe Carter is up there. If they don't they go the way of Bunyoto, Ash and JPR eventually.
  14. Crazy euphoria. Tougher for you younger guys who didn't experience those teams. I lived through watching "Blue Monday" and Expos highs and lows...as well as the Jays emergences and collapses before the 92 and 93 WS wins. I still remmember everyting about them - where I was - who did what etc. On the flip side there hadn't been a Jays PO game since 1993 so I flew in from Cal for the TEX series and lost both games, and on top of that Cecil tore his knee in a run down in GM 2. That was the opposite of euphoria...then of course games 3, 4.....and FIVE happened.
  15. Id be same if i lived closer. I remember flying from Calgary 2015 for the final home stand vs the Rays Sept 2015 with my wife and son. Packed house. Roof open blue sky. September crispness. White towels waving. Everyone standing. We won all 3 games with JD capping off a comeback in the 3rd game hitting a walk off bomb to win on the Sunday Sept 27th. I was jumping up and down when he smoked that ball as soon as you heard the crack I knew it was gone, and then I fell on top of this nice couple from PEI beside me lol. Just hard to recapture that incredible buzz and atmosphere/feeling. That team was just never out of it.
  16. The least likeable team, for me at least, in this window going back to 2020. Personality and performance wise. Thats totally subjective and just my personal view/experience. I was looking at options to head to TOR this morning, to take in some more games in Sept, but I'm going to pass. I caught 4 over the last couple weeks and the team was listless. Just didn't enjoy the product much even though 3 games were in front of packed houses.
  17. Couldn't agree more. Still pissed off lol. Whether Mayza was unusually bad is irrlevant. It doesn't change the impact of the Biggio bunt and Espy 3-0 swing at ball 4 decisions by coaching staff. (we arent sure if he was green lit) Relievers don't always just deliver perfectly of course for all teams, and decisions still have to be made that affect the game, in that aftermath.
  18. A. why give up an out? B. he is a pull hitter and even a GB to the right side or a deepish FB to RF gets the runner to 3B with one out. Maybe he wins it on a base hit or better. C. Biggio always looks like he sucks at bunting. He is more likely to blow a strike(s) bunting at it or on a foul; pop it up and/or bunt it right to the fielder. D. f***ing Espy and his 62 wRC+ followed Biggio
  19. I am for the first time all year coming to the realization we might not even make the 3rd wildcard. Its a tad bewildering how we have gone from "lets win the division to just make it in to better luck next year" reckoning and rationalizations. We may still make it in, but will need to pull a rabbit out of a hat now. Margin for error increasingly smaller.
  20. For sure. The call for the bunt was just bad for several reasons. As was Espy swinging 3-0 whether it was a green light or his own decision.
  21. Ya, I am not saying that he was. Nobody knows for sure if he was or wasn't. That was the media gossip. At the end of day, most things can be had. It all depends on the price and if it makes sense to the buyer to pay it.
  22. Teo slugging .742 over his last 15 games and .532 over the last 30. 22 HRs now. Think SEA is glad they never moved him at the deadline?
  23. Jano leadoff 2B. Winning run at 2B no out. LHH Biggio - pull hitter who sucks at bunting asked to give up an out for us and bunt runner to 3B, with Espy due up. Results in out at 3B. Even a GB to the right side accomplishes the same objective. Espy swings at Ball 4 - Either he got the green light which should be a firing offence, or he swung 3-0 and should fired into the sun. Swings at ball 4 and fails to move runner at 1B into scoring position GIDP This is the stuff of nightmares when we look back at '23 if its another 2021.
  24. I hate bunts. f*** me. It’s hard. And all we needed was Biggio to pull a ball. Espy swinging 3-0. f*** off.
  25. Nice work Jordan. 36 is a lot for you. Over to Yimi. He has got this. Feels like a playoff game.
