  1. I wish we would have extended Cecil when he was not one of THE best relievers in baseball. Probably lost our chance to do it for anything reasonable $ wise. Whats 7 years for extending JD going to cost for? $155mm minimum? Bit of a rush when you have control for 3 more years but it could make sense. He is going to get paid in arb.
  2. My favourite statement "our focus needs to be an obsessive focus on infusing talent" speaking of our farm system and giving up a draft pick for Gallardo. Its an obvious statement but leadership starts at the top in a successful org. Gave me an iro-gasm.
  3. I think that's obvious at this point. Move one or both and payroll would have to move up. Just out of curiosity I wonder what Martin would be worth on the trade market (not saying it makes any sense to move him). Does he has NTC or 10/5 rights? don't think so.
  4. That's possible. Who plays SS? If Travis is real offensively it makes Goins more plausible as full time SS.
  5. Those position players are on the cheap list true. That's a pretty shaky list no? Wont get much WAR out of Goins/Cola. Travis was great in a brief stint, but he is coming off injury. Pompey - Alford still have everything still to prove. Pillar will likely be a 2-3 WAR player. 9 roster spots for $5mm ish with the pitchers. Agree on the SP development issue. Still that's $130mm or more (assume resigning JB/EE) or so with 9 roster spots still to pay. Perhaps not unrealistic?
  6. The "production per dollar" argument is real. Based on the cost of incremental FA WAR, I'm pretty sure both of these guys will be worth more than they sign for. But the obvious issue when you do the Jay's napkin math...is that without a big bump in payroll and resigning them, we will lose a lot of value as we just haven't produced enough cheaper controllable talent. We traded it off, drafted poorly or didn't develop well. Pick your poison. If we had these assets, we could have let one or both walk and mixed in the younger players to backfill at least some more of the lost production...much like the Cards did with Pujols.
  7. I think everyone but those 2 and their agents would be more comfortable with 3 years. The market is the market. I don't see 3 years but I hope I'm wrong. Martin, JD (arb), Tulo, Edwin, Jose = $100 + Happ/Estrada = $125mm ish 2017 with 18 more spots to pay on the roster. hmmmmmm
  8. Really like those two players a lot. But that does scare me. An aging expensive team doesn't sound Shapiro-like to me. 4/72 for 31 year old Gordon means ? for these two?
  9. Ya. I don't see another 4 WAR season in his future but a solid 2+ish for his cost wouldn't be bad. I was just watching year end best MLB plays and Pillar was pretty incredible and durable. I can't imagine what it must be like to watch KK (not the mod:) play CF every day.
  10. Most interesting thing about this thread to me is who would have imagined that most people on this board would be awknowledging Pillar as a lock OF starter in 2016 after a 4 WAR 2015. Times change. Haven't seen one comment he is a 4th OF ITT.
  11. I'm ok with seeing if Pompey or Saunders can stick in LF. Using OPS to assess a contact and speed player like Revere isn't very helpful.
  12. You make it sound like its easy to get a bat on a ball in that location against Davis. Virtually impossible to get to. Don't blame him for the take. Pitch tracker was posted after that AB many times and it was a game changing call imo. Navvy got one similar. Hadnt been called all game up until then. Anyway...its ancient history now. Best wishes to Revere and lets hope the arm we got has a solid year.
  13. ^ this. I listen to Blair only because I get desperate for Jays talk and he carries a lot of it for Rogers. I have to marginalize everything he says.
  14. Seriously? Are you talking Game 6. He got f***ed on an ump call 2-1 on a pitch almost a foot outside and high. Changed that whole AB against Davis who was lights out with 2 strikes. Face it, things weren't going our way and they were for KC. JD smashed a ball with hardest exit V of season (or close to it) with 2 men on right to 3B in that game. Wasn't meant to be. I don't blame Benny for that. Revere was limited player but he was 2 ish WAR player who went a lot way to addressing a gaping hole for us in LF 2015. I like this trade ok because of our needs but I will think pretty fondly on Revere's short time in TOR.
  15. I like this deal. I was a fan of Revere. Ill forever remember him for his play and post game commentary. I thought he was a pretty funny guy. But mostly I'll remember him as the Jay who got royally f***ed on a key 2-1 pitch from Davis with Pompey on 3B in Game 6 of the ALCS, and then beat the living hell out of a garbage can with a bat. We needed help in the pen and this quality helps backfill the loss of the Aussie. No concerns about the leadoff spot. Travis or Tulo...whatever. Way too much is made of that "issue". Time for Pompey to step up.
  16. His style is something I haven't seen before. I seem to remember an interview where he said he prefers to throw on the run. He practiced it so much as a kid he just got used to preferring it over a standing start. After Reyes, I love watching him play D.
  17. He falls into the Piazza category for suspicion. So probably more chance now with that precedent being set, if there is such a thing with this farce of a process.
  18. Lol. Talk about a buzz kill. AA was adept at pickin through the dumpster. Appears Shapiro is meeting that challenge. I f***in hate Rodney.
  19. Off Jose move topic, further to your comment on Edwin's play @ third I didn't watch him much with Reds, but remember the E5 dark days. Its kind of a blur mixed in with me yelling obscenities at the TV. Was the issue with his arm accuracy or strength or both? He may have been serviceable, but it seemed like he booted a lot of balls too.

I'm torn between being pissed off at those kids and really feeling for them. I'm sure they are totally devastated. They had that game. They took some horrible penalties and our tender couldn't stop much. Didn't make any big saves really. Not the Cdn effort we have been spoiled with. f***, I hate it when Canada loses....takes me a day to get over my bad mood.

That was ugly. Too cute on the power play. STFP! Goalie wasn't really pulling anything out. I feel for this kids. They lay it all out. With these tourneys though...you just have to get in and hope you gel/peak like KC in the playoffs (f***ers). We have lost to lesser teams in the final a few times.
  22. Agree. I'd be very happy with 3 to 4 WAR from him with staying healthy in 2016. Just gotta keep him away from Pillar's nose.
  23. Amen to that. Even as a shell of the previous Tulo he seemed like a huge upgrade over where Reyes was heading. But what we gave up for that upgrade wasn't cheap.
  24. This team is better starting 2016 than it was 2015. I wouldn't say I'm unhappy. Mgm approach to the big FAs and Estrada/Happ signings was reasonable. I have concerns about our pen and I like the look of the RedSox and the Yanks sexy pen (yes, I have pen envy). But overall when you compare our assets to them, 2016 looks to be a ton of fun for us obsessed Jays fans. Can't wait.
  25. Travis is expected to miss most if not all of the Spring recovering. Martin BB rate was down from his exceptional 2014. But his lifetime OBP is .350 and wRC+ 107.
