  1. Funny you mention that. I was thinking the same. I hope it doesn't happen but he himself has been talking up defying the aging curves. There has been all this talk about him being in great shape and stretching (as if somehow this concept is an epiphany not duplicated by other pro ballplayers and provides a Kevlar vest against age/injury). He missed big parts of 2 seasons in his 5 year deal and last year his shoulder. I'm sure its beneficial, but there is only so much one can when you are 36 playing O and D in a long, grinding season.
  2. PVR'ed the game and watched it last night. It's hard to describe how good it feels to be watching those guys hitting and fielding again. Is this real? Trying unsuccessfully to somewhat contain my excitement for this season. April 3rd can't come soon enough. It's like Christmas morning to a 5 year old.
  3. lol. I wish the poll just read "who should be the Jays 5th SP out of ST?" Me too.
  4. I'm in the Chavez or Hutch....not Sanchez and wouldn't it be great if the old Floyd returns camp. However, its kind of ironic when you look at Chavez's age and his K and BB rates from 06 to 2013 when it finally started to click for the A's. They were pretty s*** for a lot of it...much like Sanchez's. Although Chavez had some ML success. edit: I cant believe 40% have selected Sanchez.
  5. It will probably be Chavez which I'm fine with. Steamer projects he and Hutch to have abut the same FIP. Hutch had an unspectacular but decent K and BB rate 2015 but BABIP was .340. At this point hard to know what he will be but if he has options still he might be in AAA again. Sanchez no...for all the reasons mentioned. Floyd. It would be great if he can bounce back.
  6. OR he gets hurt or has an awful season and the price goes down. The only reason you take the risk off of him for 2016 and extend is if you get a reasonable discount for giving him that security. Edwin has been great for us and very consistent. I would not be suprised if this deal happened.
  7. Enlightening report. Thanks. But you have overlooked the impact of the Illuminati in this. A glaring oversight.
  8. Devo's wRC+ in 92 when we first won the WS was.....93. Same as Pillars 2015. His OBP was .303....UG.

Agreed. Was never a fan of his. The stats guys hate him too.
  10. We traded for Valencia from KC deadline 2014 didn't we? We were struggling to hit LHP which seems bizarre now. Speaking of him I didn't believe the stuff Wilner tweeted about him being a bad presence in the clubhouse. But a friend of mine met with AA just after christmas. He said AA was very candid and never stops talking. AA told him that he was, compared to Cola, a very negative influence. Always talking contract terms etc etc and not in a positive way. Thought that was interesting.
  11. Bautista makes 25 starts min @ 1B Tulo's wRC+ > 150 again but he only plays 100 gms Pompey breaks out - 120 wRC+, swipes 30 bases and takes over CF for Pillar who is injured diving for ball. Saunders WAR > 2 Travis shoulder plagues him 2016.

They need to move him. Our back end is eating up too $ and he is a flawed player but still going to get 4mm AAV ish based on what I've heard.

Good trade for Flames. Hudler for a 2nd and 4th. No chance they would have resigned him. Last year's playoff appearance was over their heads.
  14. I love the E-Rex. He is a great story from DFA to stud bat. If you think about it they could actually do a deal with Edwin and let Jose walk and the vast majority of fans would be just fine with it (more importantly it may be the right business decision) Still the same principles apply with Edwin. Id only extend if there if the term/AAV is discounted to reflect the risk not letting him play out 2016 under his current deal.
  15. We need Hutch and/or Sanchez to exceed some pretty low expectations. Hutch has the tools to be mid rotation or better I think.
  16. Big muscle = throw better. no? Just look at the knuckler that Canseco had.
  17. Ripken was the extreme example but he very often changed his stance. I think this leg kick is more about generating power. The 2014 left side torn labrum hip procedure he had may have affected him more than we know. Lower body injuries can have a big swing impact. Votto struggled with power after his knew surgery. OTOH A-Rod had 2013 hip surgery and had better than expected power numbers 2015.
  18. Is our board "real life" or a parallel universe? on second thought don't answer that.
  19. Right on. Nice to hear hombre. Hope it works out.
  20. Is there such a unicorn? I agree with King! Having said that, I got remarried on Feb 12 and my wife is pretty hot and she cooks pretty well.
  21. Yup, for sure. But we can't kid ourselves. That's some serious middle of the order mashin' WAR to replace.
  22. Cant ya just let me have a good cry Ya...I know. Its very true. We went through this with many players seeing them move on including Alomar and Delgado (and those others you mention)...many. We didn't with VW...signed him...and then wished we didn't until AA dumped him on LAA.
  23. Heard that Gov. Feel same. Have to detach the emotion from this one and think of the best business decision. Shapiro can't get caught taking too much risk with a 36 year old even though I'll never forget game 5 against Texas. (and he almost won us game 6 against KC if not for some bad luck and calls on Navvy and Revere).
  24. Ya, that's the thing. Casuals clamouring to resign Jose will be the first to bail when he sucks from aging and we are lumbered with 25mm AAV ish per. Jose may age well for a player but let's not underestimate the risks.
  25. From Fangraphs: Sorry Joey Bats you aren't worth 150 million (may have been posted before) http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/sorry-joey-bats-you-arent-worth-150-million/ Thought it was decent analysis of aging curve and comparables.
