  1. Yes, You get 3 to 5 to make per game and if you are right they don't diminish. It would be awesome to watch Managers just f*** with the Ump show guys with a smile on their face. Push of a button. The good thing is its a virtually instant decision. Of course the umps hate it because it "shows them up" which makes me like it more.
  2. We'll see. Been reading about it quite a bit. Calling fooling umpires and exacerbating human error "an art" is a joke that diminishes the game today with the technology available now. The new rules have been great for the game, and there was a lot of opposition initially. Now its just the norm. I think it will help the game. 3. Looking forward to a robot-ump appeal system in MLB. There has been suggestions '25 or '26. 3 to 5 instant appeals per game. Touching or in zone or out. We look at ump score cards and bitch about balls & strikes constantly, yet somehow framing is lauded and measured as D "skill". I'll be happy when its substantially devalued in assessing defensive value. Also looking forward to Angel Hernandez eating s*** when he loses appeals.
  4. No-brainer. 100% its a lock now. We goin' to the World Series!! Back to 23% now thanks to CWS who are great for my optimism.
  5. Ha! Wilko shut down one of my old man rants the other day with a top shelf meme from the Office. Governator tried to teach me how to post images etc years ago. Never took. Techno chimp.
  6. https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/how-blue-jays-davis-schneiders-recent-adjustments-led-to-everyday-role/?sn-amp I looked for the X thing but couldn't find it. There was also an on air feature Blue Jays Central did, but above gets into it at the bottom.
  7. That guy has a Ring and 50 WAR career already, despite all the injuries.
  8. 2 WAR floor even with IL stints. Free Agent cost/WAR came down but it was still median $4.4 in '23 off season.
  9. I saw him interviewed about it. He raised his stance to get to the high fastball better. Felt his stance was too crouched and it was hard to get his hands through to balls at the top of the zone. He was getting beat there last yr more after his hot start. He also added more of a leg kick. There are side by side videos of it on X. I would post them if I knew how LOL.
  10. I've shared before that Jano spent 2 days (on his own time and dime) in Calgary coaching my kid and 6 others in January of 2019. Everyone spent lots of time talking to him - very open and engaging. You will seriously never meet a nicer person. He shared with us the influence Luke Maile had on him for his D. At that time he was struggling to hit after being having bat first rep as C in the Minors. I remember most of us including myself were ragging on him and it was either SaskJayFan or Brownie19 posted about the need for patience with him. I remember this post because the group think and CW at the time was so opposite. Just goes to show how baseball evolves. Back in '19 I remember speaking to him thinking to myself I just don't know if this guy is gonna stick. And here we are in 2024....and its awesome to see what he has become. I hope they get a reasonable 3/4 year deal done. He is a good bet and investment.
  11. Mind boggling to me this FO signed Grichuk to a 5/52 extension in 2019 but we are even having this debate about Jano, especially after they traded Moreno.
  12. Risks in any extension or FA deal bud. We watch Springer every day. Ryu lost 1.5 of 4 years. This FO extended Grichuk 5/52 back in 2019. Given Jano's positional value and floor I'd say he is a less risky bet than that deal. If he does stay healthy this year his value on the market will ensure we have to overpay or he walks. Already 1.4 WAR even though he lost 2/3 weeks on IL. That will cool off some as he is red hot.
  13. Davis S is proof of this right before our eyes. I watched '23 and saw his '24 projection, but I thought it was even money he would be back in BUFF by now. Instead he made some adjustments after the league adjusted to him, and has a 138 wRC+ and 1 WAR already. He brings hustle and production to our team.
  14. What are the early returns on ATL deal sending CWS 5 players for Bummer? I see his FIP is solid and BB rate is down. Soroka has been pretty bad unfortunately. Haven’t really followed the other parts of the deal.
  15. Max, he has been here 5 seasons. A. We didn't need to wait for last spring training to do a deal. We could have done it after we dealt Moreno, ideally. B. What people say to a reporter is not always the real situation. Posturing and deflection. If the sides are talking they may not want to create a news story about it. Negotiations take place behind the scenes.
  16. This was a perfect situation for an extension. IL stints have inhibited his value which makes him a win win extension candidate. If he was putting up 3-5 WAR a season he would want to max out on the FA market. With an extension he would have gotten long term financial security, because the Jays know his value better than anyone other team, and we get a 2 War floor, 4 WAR ceiling C (if healthy) at a reasonable AAV on term. Backfilling the trade of our top prospect and C Moreno. Without that we are left with Kirk plus ?
  17. This is a great start to this CWS series. Could not have drawn it up any better.
  18. Play him against lefties and hope for the best. This is a wicked skid but he is nowhere near this bad. Baseball can be cruel. . People were drooling over his 200 wRC+ just a couple weeks ago. “Knows how to drive in runs”.
  19. CWS are so awful. An up and coming team of promise only a few seasons ago. Never panned out.
  20. He gonna get paid. We should have locked him up after trading Moreno.
  21. Varsho loves to golf that ball down out. Did same against Cano. Nice.
  22. Very glad the FO didn’t do something silly and trade Manoah off for nothing. Good to see him shove.
  23. 100% yes. Shapiro has quite a bit of input on major and material player or coaches decisions for public and fiscal reasons. The key point is it is Shapiro's responsibility and duty to question, give input and sign off. And if he isn't sure he takes it to Rogers and small working committee of Board that has been established. Its far from a rubber stamp for Ross, as these are big dollars and important to Rogers integrated strategy, but his team does most of the sourcing of players, coaches, Manager etc. We agree.
  24. Not day to day but its tighter than you are inferring. I know for certain that Atkins has very clear and minimal thresholds for approvals that he can make on his own. If he wants to DFA Wes Parsons no problem. Anything material potentially affecting rev and budget spend forecasts, capex, assets and valuations that have been sold to the BOD, he need input and approval from Shapiro. Every large pubco has these approval mechanisms in place for pretty obvious reasons. On another note Manoah looks good! lol.
  25. One of my favorite movies Glengarry Glenn Ross and "coffee is for closers" scene. Its true in business across the spectrum. They did spend $50M ARO. Question is did they close the right assets. 1st prize is a Cadillac. 2nd prize is a set of steak knives. 3rd prize is you are fired. ABC is "Always Be Closing".
