revenue bump in Canadian dollars is significant. The value of the TV rights is huge. The TV viewer numbers are the highest by far in MLB. The viewer numbers are higher than the best Nhl numbers Rogers paid $5billion dollars for. The fact that it is Canadian dollars does not change the fact that the Jays should be in the top 5 payroll in MLB and still earn a great return. from a business standpoint, Rogers has to figure this out. Corporate ownership should look to maximize return. The corporate owner will maximize revenue by putting the most competitive team on the field. This year, with a thin minor league talent pool, the team needs to jump into the Free agency pool to fill the pitching needs. YOu need an ace like price or greinkie. you also need someone to fill Estrada's role as 3rd/4th starter. you need to buy a few more power bullpen arms for depth, this will cost dollars. But from a cost/benefit view and a corporate return perspective - going in with a splash will earn them the most dollars.
that is my point - Rogers had huge success (both wins and revenue) and have not learned it was because AA went all in.. Toronto loved this. Go get two or three great FA signings and watch the $$ flow in.
