  1. Probably would give Little a shout out on the RP side of things. To me it's gotta be Kirk, that kind of excellence on both sides of the plate (literally and figuratively) has been a driving force on the team. Catchers as a whole with Heineman leveraging his BABIP luck and excellent defense have been providing legitimately MVP level production. Ernie a close second with his overall contribution. Slight edge goes to Kirk for doing it as a catcher.
  2. More of those swings Vlad. Good pitcher, took some tough pitches and punished a mistake pitch.
  3. Yes, I’m sure he was reminded of Gimenez’s ineptitude while watching him play defense of all things.
  4. Industry valuations might still have Mayer ahead, especially due to him being a SS, but wouldn't blame you for preferring Smith.
  5. Turnbull is absolutely gas canning here, you hate to see it.
  6. Might as well give Clase these kind of games to develop. We can afford the slight WAR hit, if any tbh, at the trade off of seeing if there’s anything there.
  7. Clase should have finished that play. Not routine but definitely playable.
  8. Pretty big for us. If there's one thing a bad team is lacking it's depth, particularly on the pitching side of things. RosterResource on fangraphs now has their SP rotation down to 3 active starters lol.
  9. Agreed. Roden's AAA performance tells me he's still a guy to watch out for. His issues at the MLB level have been swing angle related, I think once he gets over the adjustment period he can still be a guy of value. The defense has been better than advertised which at least gives him a floor as an MLB player. Clase's age still makes him interesting enough to somewhat dream on. He won't be a superstar, but switch hitter with elite speed and untapped power potential is someone you don't write off while only being 23. He's a bench guy right now, and a low end regular with some more seasoning with a chance for more. He's not a true CF however, his reads are lacking.
  10. Meh, I think this is somewhat based on recency bias. 2022-2023 Gausman was an absolute treat to watch, pure dominance night in and out. Halladay is obviously a different breed, but we've had glimpses of ace like production from the likes of the 2015 David Price and 22-23 Gausman. With '21 Robbie Ray we got the production but it was on the heels of Ray being s*** for a few years so you were always kind of expecting the bottom to fall out on him and revert to his wild days.
  11. I know Berrios is frustrating and inconsistent, but a Civale vs Berrios matchup is not even lol. Berrios is going on like nearly 500 innings of ~3.70 ERA ball, he must be doing something to keep getting these results while blowing chunks every 5-6 or so starts and having god awful peripherals year in and out.
  12. The very same
  13. You love to see it. I don't know what's more embarrassing, the 3 straight shutouts (2 of them at home btw) or that Hunter Strickland finished out two of those.
  14. Clase or Straw more likely. He's played quite a bit of CF still.
  15. The f***ing Rays always being annoyingly good despite a mediocre looking team is always the worst part.
  16. Ortiz is a Red Sox mouthpiece lol. He has a stake in ownership I believe. Of course he'd try to make the Sox look like the good guys in this scenario. Also lol @ Big Papi talking about someone else having an ego.
  17. Is it late? He's only 28 and while his athletic peak may be passed, he's not hopeless from playing a position, let alone learning the significantly simpler 1B (incoming "it's not that hard Scott, tell him Wash" video). We're talking about him like he's some 35 year old immobile slug. Miguel Cabrera went back to 3B in his ages 30-31 seasons before shifting back over to 1B pretty seamlessly. Bryce Harper had major injury is a full time 1B as of his age 31 season. Devers might not be either of these guys offensively, but he's younger than they were when shifting positions and he's had plenty of infield experience to transfer over to learning first.
  18. One thing I'll say about Devers, is that while he was admittedly a very poor 3B, he wasn't like the worst defender in the sport level bad out there. He wasn't Nick Castellanos or Kyle Schwarber, he was bad but not god awful. So to fully give up on him as a defender altogether and not even consider shifting him down the defensive spectrum to first before he's even 30 is very weird. Seems to me like telling him to put his glove away forever this soon was as silly as anything else in this whole ordeal. Were the Red Sox really all that concerned about not having Triston Casas with his middling projections and pre arb salary playing first every day? Certainly it makes sense to have Bregman take over 3B full time, but surely there was some other resolution to this mess that involved Devers playing in the field while not hurting his team.
  19. Unless they sent Santander back I don't really envision how Devers would fit on this team. Barger and Ernie have been crushing it at 3B and are cheap, Vlad is here forever, we have a DH/RF signed for 4 more years while Springer continues to decline defensively...where was Devers supposed to play? Who was he being moved for, surely a salary dump from our end would have been involved.
  20. His legs/hamstrings are made out of wet paper towel.
  21. Randal Grichuk 100%
  22. Their bats are legitimately excellent though, they're currently the 7th best offense in the league. However, they combine this with horrific defense (3rd worst) which makes their position player group as a whole only a mediocre 14th best in WAR. The pitching staff is genuinely horrific though, I think people expected a bit more out of it since they spent money on acquiring Severino and Springs, with some mediocre incumbents like Mitch Spence and JP Sears and one of the better relief arms in the game in Mason Miller, but the wheels have totally fallen off on them. Severino has been fine, but everyone else has been a disappointment across the board.
  23. I went to look for a video of him at some point last season to see if he's always had the short arm action motion that a lot of new pitchers, particularly those who train with these programs, have. Found this: Seems like the short arm action was always there, but they've cleaned up the length of it on the follow through and now it's noticeably more explosive. As mentioned in the article, cleaning up the extra movements in the delivery likely is leading to less wasted energy, in return for more explosiveness and improved stuff across the board.
  24. Lazaro Estrada keeps putting up quality starts one after the other. ERA a little inflated but the K/BB numbers look good and he's limiting the bombs to a reasonable amount.
