  1. I actually think this has been a thing for a while. You can't change your motion halfway through an AB. So now it's customary for the pitcher to let the ump know with a runner on third.
  2. It’s not like the Cubs haven’t had their share of warning track flyouts. Our offense has had a couple of those but definitely not hitting the ball nearly as hard.
  3. Brutal throw from Kirk on the pitch out.
  4. The xBA in this game is .316 for the Cubs and .146 for us. Not sure what game you’re watching. The Cubs have been drilling line drives all game long.
  5. Horton is absolutely carving us up. Stuff looks filthy.
  6. For the Cubs or for the Jays? It’s been 3 hitters if you mean for the Jays lol.
  7. I mean, not saying he should have elite numbers instead, but he's a 23 year old rookie who was a top prospect with big K numbers in the minors. Agree to disagree sure, but I actually do think there's hidden K potential in there between the minor league rate and the fact that he is getting chase and whiffs at the MLB, and I'm sure the Cubs think so as well. Just saying I wouldn't sell him short as the stuff might be better than the numbers have been showing.
  8. Actually, Horton is underperforming his whiffs if anything. 60th percentile chase rate with a 66th percetile whiff rate. So he's got sneaky good stuff, it just hasn't been translating into strikeouts. With that said, he should provide a similar look to Ben Brown who we had no issues avoiding the swing and miss against.
  9. Kinda nuts that Lauer debuted at 23 back in 2018 and he's still arbitration eligible heading into the 2026 season lol.
  10. We're seeing the likes of Sandy Alcantara and Spencer Strider struggle to come back from TJS effectively, with poor command. And those are guys whose raw stuff were miles ahead of Manoah's prior to the injury. Definitely going to be a long road to see if Manoah puts himself back into back of the rotation starting depth at least.
  11. A small note, Ben Brown who relieved Assad yesterday, who didn't even pitch that poorly, got zero Ks. Is that notable? Well coming into the game he had a K/9 above 10, and he pitched 4 innings without a single strikeout, and only 4 whiffs in 55 pitches - 4 in 30 swings. Coming into the game his whiff rate was above 27% (it's reduced from what it used to be but not sure how to check what it was). The offense is kind of a pain in the ass to face.
  12. Meh, he was lowkey out by a mile, made it look closer than it was with a surprisingly good slide. Don’t like the send, France is very slow and Happ has a good arm.
  13. Wouldn't Schneider just platoon with Lukes/Loperfido?
  14. Juan Sanchez has to be one of the more generic names you've ever heard. There's 4 Juan Sanchez-es in the minors right now, and the fangraphs search lists 4 others. CPU generated name right there. In fact, he's not even the only Juan Sanchez in our farm system right now! We also have JJ Sanchez, short for Juan Jose Sanchez. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=sanche000jj-
  15. Doubt he was ever going to get the call before then anyway but it's certainly something they're aware of for these potential late season call ups you would think.
  16. The Springer concussion thing is brutal. Obviously I want them to take their time with it so he's not affected when he's back, but concerning it's taken this long for him to be cleared. This could be the kind of thing that lingers for a while.
  17. I think it's evident that they were willing to put up every prospect for trade based on some high ranking ones - whether by industry publications or internally - being moved. Whether anyone came close to matching the values for their internally top ranked prospects - Yesavage, Nimmala, King, etc. is another story. I'm sure they valued Stephen and Rojas highly and they received some valuable pieces back as a result. Perhaps Yesavage was in play for Joe Ryan but the Twins asked for other top pieces back. Maybe other teams had interest in Nimmala but the team balked at the value they would have received in return.
  18. It's been reported by Sportsnet and TSN so definitely legit. https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/report-blue-jays-promoting-rhp-trey-yesavage-to-triple-a/ Also confirmed by the Bisons themselves
  19. Sorry, but did you think Tommy Nance was a better option after the leadoff walk in the 9th? I don't know about you, but I'd probably take my chances that Hoffman figures it out over praying that Tommy Nance somehow dominates the Dodgers lineup with men on in a high stakes situation. Just because Hoffman totally s*** the bed with his command doesn't mean he might have been one mound visit away from being by far the best reliever we had available. Once Ohtani's spot became a guarantee to come up, you had to ride Hoffman out until you could use the lefty, it is what it is. Here are the possible alternatives: 1. Hoffman walks leadoff hitter. Bring in unknown Tommy Nance with a runner on over hoping your ~second best reliever with strikeout stuff figured it out. Total hindsight move. Much higher chances that Hoffman pulls it together and dominates from here than Tommy Nance not blowing it up. 2. Hoffman walks first two. Bring in Nance, guaranteeing Ohtani comes to bat with a very favourable matchup and at least one runner in scoring position. Reminder that Dodgers would gift us an out, but would take the possibility of a double play away in doing so. Lose-lose situation either way whether you keep Hoffman or bring in Nance. At least in the latter situation, you could bring in Fluharty to face the lefty when necessary. 3. With the likely possibility of the Dodgers at least tying the game, you're now down to one reliever in the bullpen entering the 10th, your odds for winning the game crater at this point.
  20. And even with pitch 1, Fluharty has such excellent tunneling that pitch 1 doesn't rule out the possibility of him following it up with a backdoor sweeper that starts identical but moves a few inches more to clip the corner. Betts being jammed is totally a result of this kind of tunneling and the guessing game, you'd almost never expect that an inside pitch won't just be a sweeper that dives inside off the plate. This was especially evident from the previous AB where Ohtani looked totally overmatched anytime Fluharty threw the "hard" stuff inside and followed it up with nasty sweepers low and away.
  21. This. The main reason Hoffman wasn't pulled has nothing to do with this nonsense about "he's your horse and you gotta trust him", you just simply can't burn another reliever there if the game might go to extras and you only have one more pen arm remaining. Hoffman walks the first guy in the 9th and you're cringing a bit but there really isn't much you can do, you have to hope he pulls it together. Luckily the Dodgers inexplicably gifted us an out, at which point you kind of have to hope either Hoffman pulls it together or you save Fluharty for the lefty. John Schneider was in a very s***** spot once he pulled Yariel and Hoffman didn't have it.
  22. Why do all your arguments sound like a child saying "no u"? Embarrassing man. It's not all about the Blue Jays. Anyway, the Astros if healthy are a much scarier team IMO. Alvarez, Altuve, Correa (again), Paredes in the playoffs is a nightmare. Brown and Valdez are two top of the rotation studs, Abreu and Hader at the back half are nasty. Scary team if everyone is healthy come the playoffs.
  23. Not buying all this hype about the Mariners. They obviously improved with the Suarez and Naylor additions, so the lineup is definitely deeper but it's not some powerhouse idk. The rotation is good but it's never as good as it seems because Safeco is such a pitcher's haven. Their best starter Woo is 21st in league fWAR. Would much rather face this rotation than the Phillies gauntlet of Wheeler-Sanchez-Suarez-Luzardo. The bullpen's top arms - Munoz, Brash, Speier (I guess?) are quite good but there's no depth behind them. Overrated team IMO.
  24. He didn’t hit it in the sweet spot of the bat, only 96 mph EV.
