  1. Well I’m sure he didn’t mean to hang a breaking ball with two strikes. Plan was definitely to get him to chase below the zone.
  2. Vlad complaining that he took a 3-2 fastball down the middle. Come on man.
  3. Heineman once again carrying the offense.
  4. You probably fused him in your head with Fluharty, who's 23.
  5. When you say young, do you mean MLB experience wise? Because he's thrown plenty of innings in his pro career, mostly at the minor league level. He's 28 so you probably want to ride him as much as often now while he's elite, before he either declines, suffers an injury, or just has the usual reliever volatility that makes him turn into a pumpkin overnight.
  6. Is he at least a big iVB guy?
  7. To be fair, I'd call his first two weeks in the majors this season as undergoing a slump/adversity. It's all SSS, but he looked woeful in April, and a completely different hitter the last week or so.
  8. I think he'll need to do it at a higher level to gain industry helium. As genuinely impressive as he's been, dominating single A hitters as a 22 year old out of college is more or less the expectation. If/when he starts doing it at higher levels, then he'll draw the eyes of the publications.
  9. You don’t need to post every single tweet from this guy.
  10. Lukes and Straw just keep getting things done at the bottom of the lineup.
  11. Julio is better, younger, and significantly cheaper so uhhhh. Seriously I don't think it's all that close. Julio is an excellent defender in CF who provides a lot of value on the basepaths, and is probably only like a tier down offensively from Vlad. He probably has another level to be unlocked offensively, even if I believe Vlad is the superior talent at the plate. Julio has like 8-10 WAR ceiling/peak, Vlad's is capped at 6-7 based on how little he provides anywhere but at the plate even at his best.
  12. Varsho has a 40% K rate with a .455 ISO. That’s real f***ing baseball right there. None of that “put the ball in play and something good will happen” ********. No shortening up the swing with two strikes to roll one over to the third baseman. Just pure unadulterated damage, whiffs be damned. 50/50 shot he enters a game under the Mendoza line at any given game but that SLG is gonna be above .480. Vladimir “Ichiro without the speed and defense” Guerrero Jr. with a sub 20% K rate and a .137 ISO. Pathetic. Bo Bichette with a .300 batting average and a wRC+ below league average. Puke in my mouth. George Springer. Power, damage, strikeouts, walks. That’s a baseball player. His leadership and vetrin presents will allow others to follow Varsho’s approach. Daulton Varsho is saving our season.
  13. Nice to see Pinto having a good start to the season. If he ends the year at AA and at least treads water there he surely enters our top 20. Despite the small frame, 7 HR in 75 PAs with a .364 ISO is no joke. Only 22.
  14. Moncada making a case to be traded anywhere but Anaheim. What a series he’s having on both ends.
  15. To be honest, Yesavage and Stephens should be in A+ yesterday, they're way too advanced for Dunedin. At this rate it would be disappointing if all 3 weren't at least at AA by the end of the year.
  16. Evan Carter might have chronic back issues so I think that's less on the developmental/hitting approach side of things, although he probably was overhyped to begin with.
  17. Nice to see RJ Schreck start to pick it up with the bat. If he could end the year strong and finish at AAA he'd look to be on a Roden like trajectory path. Hopefully the elevated K rate to begin the year is just a blip and he brings those down as the year moves along.
  18. So he's like the opposite of Ernie Clement. Lots of Ks, walks and good raw power with iffy at best defense. Ernie hasn't bought himself much rope with his offensive ability, but is lucky in that he's one of the best 3B defenders in the league to make up for it. In Tirotta's case, the main questions aside from "can he make contact often enough" is going to be, can he hit lefties really well? And can he play a passable 3B/LF? We're desperately missing a good platoon bat against lefties with the aforementioned Clement struggling, and the other RHH on the bench being Myles Straw.
  19. I'm pretty sure Ureña is purely roster fodder. He'll maybe make one, tops two spot starts, eat a few bad innings, pitch in a blowout one time and then get DFA'd whenever we need a fresh arm or one of the injured guys come back.
  20. Yeah this might be at best a case where instead of returning to elite form, he might just not be god awful anymore? A ~90 wRC+ projection with elite defense everywhere in the field is still a valuable player although obviously not close to being worth his contract. As you note, his success to date is entirely BABIP and HR/FB noise. His statcast metrics are arguably all much worse across the board compared to last season. Javy is a guy who lives and dies with BABIP luck.
  21. I wouldn't be looking up recent news about Mariano Rivera if you'd like to keep that image of him intact.
