1. Sign Ruiz or McCann our trade for Lucroy
2. Both could only fetch C prospects but ya move them out
3. Sign Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez now
4. Think he'll be just fine going forward. He just hate losing to much to not refind his stroke.
5. Need to add a starting 2B (or 3B with Lawrie up the middle), no excuse to go on to next season with that gaping hole.
Even if Jimenez pans out he's 2-3 years away from being a legitimate option. McCann, Ruiz, Lucroy, etc are all potentially available at the deadline or in FA. It would do the Jays, and AA, a lot of good to solidify the backstop. Easiest improvement to make to this team IMO.
I could see them both straddling 2 WAR for a few years. However, those expectations are significantly higher than their statistically most probable outcome.
It doesn't seem like he'll walk at a MLB average pace. He is looking like a longshot for 15HR, even with the SB that isn't very good for a LF'er. He has a chance to be an average MLB player, same with Jimenez.
Cubs have been talking with Garza's reps for awhile now too. If the trade talks heat up AA will at least know exactly what Garza is asking for before he pulls the trigger.
As Dirk Hayhurst keeps saying they need to be value conscious sellers. Buyer, seller whatever the label is they need to be making moves for next season and the organization's future.
He loved the Sanchez pick, I think he has been critical of every other selection. I know he liked AA's strategy of accumulating compensation picks but, I was under the impression he generally didn't like the way AA decided to use them.
Doesn't matter if the Jays picked off Law's list he would have found a reason to hate their draft. He's hated every draft they've had since he was fired.
The only thing the Jays have to offer is BP help (Janssen) and MIF depth (Bonifacio), maybe Detroit is desperate enough to pull the trigger on that deal.
Wong is definitely available, the question is the cost. Like, Castellanos he wont come cheap either. IMO Castellanos is the better player, has star upside and is the one who is worth giving up value for. Wong is just a solid regular IMO and wouldn't give up too much for him.
Ruiz and McCann would be huge upgrades this off-season. If AA spends on pitching again and they sign elsewhere I'm going to be annoyed.
I agree that they will get one but, without Bickford it is looking like a terrible draft. Brentz AND Tellez would move it in to mediocre territory, just one doesn't bump the needle though IMO.
Headley would be an awesome addition but, he's going to cost a lot of assets and be relatively expensive in a couple seasons. I think Castellanos or Wong need to be the targets for AA right now. Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez would save AA from giving up more assets for rotation depth as well.
