  1. There's been a lot of addition by subtraction in the pen, but relivers are notoriously volatile so it will almost always be an X factor... The pen is where I'd be focused for the rest of the off-season, but I do like the pieces that have been picked up so far though.
  2. He turned down an $18M QO, he's not signing for $13M AAV.
  3. I don't think any of the remaining bats out there make sense for the Jays at the current going rates. Unless there's a trade to be made where Grichuk is on the way out I think we're mostly set for position players. I think the bullpen is where we should be focusing now (and not a lot that's needed there either, but some room for upgrades obviously..)
  4. And now he has a broken rib....
  5. You're not going to get an allstar to sign as a bench piece, so Dickerson is about where the team will likely end up (barring a trade, but at this point it seems weird to move pieces from the MLB team when it's pretty much set and is arguably the best offence in baseball as is).
  6. Schwarber signed with the Phils for more than I'd have been comfortable paying.
  7. I'm mentally preparing for him to make an error on an easy play in the first week of games. If I don't start preparing for that now, I'm going to explode from the number of dumb takes if/when it happens.
  8. I mean, yeah. But the last time we moved someone like this in a trade it was Jeff Hoffman, and that stung at the time too.
  9. Hurts is probably overstating it... He's got upside, but that's all he's got at this point. Gunnar Hogland doesn't even have a Fangraphs page yet.
  10. So, want to re-evaluate any of these things? 'cause like... 1) wrong 2) wrong 3) wrong
  11. I am 1000% happy with this return. Hoglund stings a bit, but not enough to be upset.
  12. Grichuk is already on the bench... We have LGJ, Teo, and Springer.
  13. 1) maybe? 2) Freeman hasn't signed, and the team doesn't have to "save face" at all. Chapman is actually a better move than Freeman. 3) If that ever existed, it's for free agents, and doesn't apply to trades.
  14. To be fair, that was one tweet from a reporter, not the club saying that for sure. I think it's likely accurate, but it would hardly shock me if a baseball reporter got something wrong.
  15. Damn, sucks for Sale. Good for the Jays though.
  16. If only to have Jansen pitching to Jansen, I think this would be the correct move.
  17. He had a 101 wRC+. He was almost exactly average.
  18. I don't think I'm comfortable giving up a pick for Conforto. Not when we have 3 starting OFs already.
  19. I'd guess there's a good chance that he improves, whether or not he recovers fully is the question. He's still young, so there's a reasonable chance. I don't think he has to fully recover to have value to the team, though.
  20. I was thinking of making a Lawrie joke earlier, but couldn't land on one. Kudos for grabbing it
  21. Dickerson is kinda trash (but if he'd sign as a cheap bench piece, I wouldn't hate the idea), and I can't imagine Joc would come here to be a 4th OF - he's likely looking for a starter role to try and rebuild his value, ditto Conforto.
  22. I don't really see Kirk or Groshans being moved for Chapman. A's need to clear money + are big "quantity over quality" guys. Also, Kirk is on the roster which has already been said is not being touched in this trade. I feel that Groshans + Smith would be a bit of an overpay in the context of this trade.
  23. Considering the difference in cost (presumably), I much prefer this to Ramirez.
  24. Where? We have 3 good OF bats (plus 1 who is so f***ing streaky he could carry the whole team for a month at times), 3 good infield bats (plus 2 who have shown they can be very solid) and 2 good catcher bats. I'm of the opinion that the DH spot is best used to give players partial rest days, and I don't think you're signing any of the decent available bats to come in to a bench role. Also, this team is really, really good at hitting as constructed already.
