    FWIW, Steamer has Pillar as a 1.2 WAR player next year. He can field quite well (far, far better than Davis...). I don't hate him as a 4th OF.

    I'd probably be okay with something like 6/$36M (incl. fee) to take a chance on Kang (plus, we'd have a guy named Kang on the roster...) Seems pretty risky, but he could play at 2B and definitely be an upgrade over Goins (would block Travis, which is unfortunate, but has enough of a chance of being an upgrade over Travis that I'd be willing to do that...)

    We've got a bunch of 40 man spots, still room for the rule 5 and some bullpen arms, nothing important here, as long as he's got options (does he?)

    They could spend all the monies and gut their farms, I suppose... Although, A's are basically giving away assets right now, I guess. Would definitely make for a formidable rotation next season, however.

    Yes, and it's also not like they'll make money anyway because it's a 30 team league and there will be people who bet on each team, meaning that no matter who wins, bookies win more. Vegas makes money off volume, not knowing the future.

    So uhhh... They're guessing? I dunno about you, but I get the impression from this thread that we're discussing the facts as they stand now, not saying "hey, if we do nothing, and the Red Sox sign Lester and Scherzer, we're still the best team!"

    We are a much better team (on paper) this year than last, and the off-season is not over. Thus far, the Orioles are much worse, the Yankees are much worse and the Red Sox have a rotation that is held together with rubber bands and thumb tacks... Even with the lack of an "ace" there's an argument to be made that we have the best rotation in the AL East (and I've seen it made on respectable websites beyond this forum). The only area where we're obviously weaker than our direct competition is the bullpen, and bullpens are the most volatile s*** in baseball (see Delebar, Steve and Ryan, B.J. for examples from this team...) Obviously the caveat is: The games have to be played... However, this is a team that, as currently constructed, should be in the thick of the AL East race. Oh... And opening day is almost four months away, LOTS of time to make additional moves. Edit: I wrote "best rotation in baseball", I meant "best rotation in the AL East". Goddamn you, Monday morning!

    f*** this guy in particular. Partially because f*** him, and partially because it was f***ing AMERICAN reporters that were pushing this f***ing story. Aren't GMs and Executives supposed to keep track of this sort of s***? Isn't it important to their jobs to read what is happening in the industry?
