Short answer? Probably not. You can't just throw a bunch of spare parts at a team and get something in return. We could get Morneau, and he'd likely be an upgrade for the team, but we're not getting him for nothing. AA did just pull off a Jeebus trade though, so who the f*** knows...
Really, it's the 4 years of control on Donaldson. This is the kind of trade you see with 1 or 2 years of control left, but we got Donaldson for 4 f***ing years! FOUR f***ING YEARS!!!
We win baseball. The RedSox should be embarrassed (but since they still willingly play in the shittiest T-Ball stadium in all of 4th grade, they clearly have no shame...)
Addition by subtraction, but also addition...
(to be fair, I don't think this team is better without Lawrie, Nolin, Graveman and Barreto... So we're not actually better losing those guys... We are better adding the best 3B in baseball, however...)
There have been a lot of different opinions lately... Some of the modern ideas are that #3 is a much less important lineup position than it used to be considered...
I really can't see Martin batting 2nd with Donaldson in the fold... Donaldson has as much power as Edwin, and maybe as much as Bautista...
I think
Reyes
Donaldson/Bautista
Bautista/Donaldson
Edwin
Martin
Martin is great, but he's not a top 4 hitter in this lineup anymore...
I hate that s***.. but I'm okay with most of those deals (the Snider deal was silly, and the Lind deal was silly...) Snider would look nice in LF for us next year, and Lind would look nice as a DH/1B/Bench bat... And we really got no return for either of those guys...
Both Buehrle and Dickey provide positive value. There's no reason to dump them unless you're getting value. They're better in our rotation than all of our other options...
