Like batters gripping the bat to hard, maybe he wasn't relaxed on the mound for his first handful of MLB starts. Some stress and nerves caused him to lose some velo and control??
Merryweather is due back a cpl games before his next 60 day visit!
All joking aside, they can't be back soon enough but just wish Merryweather didn't come with a huge question mark health wise.
Would love to see various of skills being exhibited.....fastest man to first and/or around the bases and outfielders speed/accuracy throws to home are the two at the top of my head!
I was looking forward to seeing Vlady Vs Ohtani but totally understand him opting out.
Plus if Ohtani wins, imagine the hype for next yrs HR Contest if Ohtani wins this year and Vlady enters next season's.
The ace up our sleeves (if the gov want to use it) is the time lag we are behind the USA. Since they are basically allowing full capacity at a lot of the stadiums a few months before we are that should give a us a good indication on the advocacy of the vaccines and the spread of Covid.
Maybe the suspensions should be tied into the number of times a certain teams pitchers gets caught?? Make it peer pressure from the team mates not to cheat.
IE: one time a team gets caught....10 games....2nd time a team gets caught...20 games....so on and so on.
Like almost anything suspension worthy it always comes down to the CBA!
One of baseball's mysteries is how a player can hit a 100mph fastball, sliders and curveball from 60'6" away but can't catch a hit ball in the outfield in which he a few seconds to adapt to.
Don't want to hi-jack this thread but I think it still goes along with the general theme of "cheating". What is the reason why MLB have a rule about how far up a bat that a hitter can have pine tar? (see George Brett disallowed HR).
I can't see how or why it would really affect performance by having a better grip, in which they could get with their gloves. Surely they weren't concerned about pine tar getting on the balls and affecting the flight of the ball?
Just curious to hear opinions.
I don't disagree on try Vladdy at 3rd but he seems to be really enjoying 1st base plus he's a plus defender there. Having said that, having versatility is newer a bad idea and in the back of my mind I wouldn't mind seeing him try the outfield if he keeps up his physical maintenance program.
if it means a few scheduled doubleheaders a season then it's a "thumps up from me.....way up" !
These could be beneficial to all teams if it gives the players and especially pitchers a cpl extra days off.
Agreed...never recognized him. My wife had cancer also and some of her meds made her gain weight also, so assuming this is the reason. But glad to see him back, was
a hug fan of Francona from his Expos days!
