  1. Wait... did you really just accuse Reyes of having no arm?
  2. Phil Hughes last year 16 BB in 209.2 IP has them both beat.
  3. If you are as true and pure of a baseball fan as you say then the stadium and atmosphere shouldn't matter to you any more than a free pizza would.
  4. Remembering when I played, it seemed even when we played a team much better or worse than us, double headers usually ended in a split. It also seems like an uncharacteristically high # of MLB double headers end in a 1-1 split as well. It could very well just be bias or wrongly remembering but that is what is in my mind and i was just wondering why a bigger number than is statistically probably ends in a split.
  5. What are the stats on double headers. I'm guessing statistically the chances of a team winning two games in a double header is slightly over 50% but it seems to me, more often than not, double headers are split.
  6. Guess we should all accuse Wright of getting his hands on some roids. We know Oriole fans would if it was out pitcher.
  7. I think your belief about doctors being any different than any other profession is naive. You certainly believe the top positions in baseball are often held by people who don't use actual, informed research to make decisions.
  8. Hutch can't hit the bottom of the zone to save his life.
  9. If there was sound research that really clearly showed these recommendations were sound, we'd have it. Instead there is a lot of wishy washy articles and information out there. Starters are better conditioned than ever and throw less than any previous time in baseball but are getting hurt at exponentially greater numbers and people just go along with it. It's so dumbfounding.
  10. Why is he one of the best? Because we know he's one of the most famous? Miley Cyrus is a pretty popular singer but I wouldn't say she's one of the most talented. There are lots of GMs in baseball who made a name for themselves and are pretty dumb. Are the doctors recommended by the training staffs? The same ones working in a time where they have more information and resources than any generation before them, yet there are more injuries than ever. Seriously, there is an article out there somewhere that there were more pitcher surgeries in 2014 than in the whole 1990s, so why are people even listening to these doctors? The overuse is more likely coming from Dads or coaches at a young age telling kids to go out and throw 100 pitches a day because 10000 hours will get them to the pros, not because of a few extra games after an offseason.
  11. He's been getting extra days off.
  12. The doctor's suggested limit is coming out of his ass. You think he really has information on how much more likely Harvey is to get injured if he throws a few more games over a 162 game period? His health should come before the team? The guy is NOT injured, nor is there any actually conclusive research that would show he is more likely to get injured beyond the reasonable assumption that any pitcher who pitches more is more likely to get injured. How many banged up players are playing right now but you need to shut down a pitcher who is healthy? Haven't you guys played baseball? Do you really, honestly believe that a couple games extra over a year, right before you are about to get a rest for a solid 4+ months has a significant chance of derailing his career? As for the money, you of all people should know how ridiculous some GMs are. I'd say financially there would be more to gain by pitching. Play well in a couple playoff games and all of a sudden Boras can tout you as a clutch performer with playoff success, a real winner. Way more likely that happens and gains him an extra 20 million that he faces some sort of injury. Zero reason to think his recently repaired elbow is just going to snap again. If anything he'd feel a bit of tightness and can be shut down and rested for the winter if it happens. Seriously, for a guy who really is critical of some of the common fallacies of baseball, you sure have fully bought into this one.
  13. I was just reading about Boras pushing the Mets to shut down Harvey at the "doctor recommended" 180 IP limit. Anybody else sick of this kind of thing? A team could go to the playoffs for the first time in years but would consider sitting one of their pitchers because he MIGHT get hurt again in the future. Sure, pitching 4 or 5 more games would increase the chance he got hurt, but pitching 5 games also gave him more chance to get hurt than pitching 0 games, so he should have just sat the whole season. I'm so tired of this kind of thing, these magical IP limits. It was so fitting Strasburg got hurt after they did "everything right." IF YOUR BEST PLAYERS ARE HEALTHY AND YOU ARE PLAYING FOR A PLAYOFF SPOT (or in the playoffs) THEN YOU DON'T END THEIR SEASON. Boras is such a tool and the Mets, one team I really liked watching this year, are dead to me if they actually go through with it.
  14. He has not really gotten worse or better since 2002.
  15. I still like to see him pitch in the playoffs. Advanced stats on Hutch or BS, the masses are right on this one, he is leaving a lot of pitches high in the zone and got smashed for it. Hutch is also one of our most unpredictable pitchers along with Dickey. I think he is way more likely to get shelled (6 runs in 2 IP type of an outing) than Buehrle.
  16. Yeah. Gibby has taken him out a bit early on a few occasions. It would be really annoying if he misses this by a few innings. It is one streak in baseball that I actually appreciate.
  17. Really hard decisions for the club regarding Stroman and it will get even harder during the postseason. Estrada has really been just huge in helping us get to where we are, it would be so hard for him to hear he's not starting anymore after all he's done. Having said that, Stroman really has a lot to offer if he is fully stretched out and ready to go.
  18. Pretty risky to go with Stroman over Estrada, who despite his previous roles with our team has been a fairly decent pitcher over a number of years. It would probably be the best decision for politics though, as Estrada will probably be gone after this year and Hutch will still be here (and neither would probably start in the playoffs anyway). There have been lots of times I've gone with that stats over what I see, but I really think people need to have their heads buried deep in the sand if they can't see Hutch has been elevating pitches and throwing very hittable stuff most of the year. He looked better for a couple starts but his last start looked not great to me despite his results. Either way it is a tough decision. With Stroman, who people were comparing his pitches to Halladay, Pedro etc... pretty hard to not go with him but then everyone has been lights out and Stroman is a 24 year old with only about 20 starts. Do we use 3 or 4 pitchers in the playoffs. I would not want to be the manager that has to tell MB that he's being skipped in the playoffs, since it seems impossible not to have a ton of respect for the guy and with how well he's pitched all year.
  19. AA has made many mentions of advanced stats. We know they have their whole own system devoted towards this. When the Jays got Smoak AA hinted towards it being because a lot of their data and sabermetrics pointed towards him having more to offer. Also, the argument of a pure analytical approach is just as dumb as going completely without using advanced stats. I've been here through it all and remember a specific interview where JP credited AA with liking Edwin (not to mention year after year he would say they believe he could do big things) and it is also pretty widely known he was the one who wanted Bautista the most... "J.P. Ricciardi was the Jays GM at the time and Anthopoulos was his assistant. He says Ricciardi deserves all the credit for the trade. But these minor transactions were part of Anthopoulos’s purview and he was the one who suggested the Jays put in a claim on Bautista." AA has done a couple bad trades that may have been pressured and then a lot of really great and amazing things. Shapiro will only help even more.
  20. That was one of the worst strike calls I've seen in a while. Didn't look even close on pitch tracker or on video
