  1. Lack of cost controlled youth? They have Pillar, Pompey, Travis and I would almost argue Donaldson, as he is only an arb guy, just a real good one. They have young guys ready to step into most of their rotation spots if you believe Osuna and Sanchez can be starters, and I do. With the rejuvenated fanbase and no crippling contracts ( you can even argue there is not a single bad contract on this team right now) I don't see any big problems. I feel like you are already acting as if the Jays have signed EE and Bautista to 7 year, 20 million dollar extensions or something.
  2. Look at Shapiro's face. He's even got the look of a smug sob. AA was always known for being open-minded and looking everywhere for ideas. It was probably beyond that to the point that Shapiro probably acted like most of his thinking was invalid. I wouldn't want to work for a boss that I thought wouldn't appreciate my work either. He has enough money banked that he has the freedom to pick and choose his work environment. Good for him really! Hopefully Shapiro really brings his A game early.
  3. A rebound from Hutch would be hugely helpful. Stroman, Osuna, Sanchez, Hutch could go a long way towards keeping the rotation cheap for at least a few years. If I was Shapiro I'd look to see if anyone is still making any good offers on Tulo. He is the one that scares me the most. I don't see either of Bautista or Edwin going completely down the toilet anytime soon, apart from Jose needing to be moved back in the infield. Jose should be at 1B next year, especially with the outfielders we have in Pompey, Pillar, Revere and Saunders. He could still go out there every once in a while if someone needs to DH.
  4. Shapiro was almost certainly hired to come in and slash. Only now because of what AA did do we have a chance to keep our payroll. AA really saved us from another 3 or 4 years of retooling.
  5. http://www.sportsnet.ca/590/dean-blundell-and-company/shapiro-makes-his-mark/
  6. This team does not seem setup to be run the way Shapiro wants to over the next few years. Hopefully they can find a few good valued pitchers if they are going this "value" route.
  7. There is something to be said for potential in GMs too. AA started off as a stud, floundered and now is charging back into superstar level. Not just the Donaldson trade, but the Saunders and especially the Travis trade were huge. If Travis kept playing he could have potentially been one of the top 2b in the league this year, gotten for Anthony Gose. Even the Smoak move was a good gamble. Revere is a nice piece for the price as well. I know he uses analytics and I don't know what happened to him in that bad year, whether it was all him or pressure from above, but I look at it like a soft more slump. I think he has way more potential than Shapiro who hasn't done much in a weak central division. I'm not saying he has been bad, maybe even his work overall to date has been better, but if I'm looking at the future I'd rather AA.
  8. For someone who seems to keep showing they believe that getting good homegrown talent and retaining them is the best way to find value, you sure do easily brush away JPs terrible drafting and ignore that AA built a bottom five farm system into a top 10 one twice in a short period of time.
  9. Funny you defend him. Even if you think it was anot a smart trade I the war arguments against the Jays trade is ridiculous. Most of what could have went wrong did go wrong. Even if just Johnson had turned out that trade wouldn't look half as bad. Let alone if Reyes didn't fall further into the toilet than anyone expected.
  10. Ricciardi made almost nothing happen the whole time he was here and a lot of the good moves were found out later to be mostly AAs doing. He also couldn't make any significant trades and signed Wells to his crippling contract.
  11. So it sounds like AA is probably going because Shapiro doesn't like how he traded the prospects at the deadline. Guess that makes sense from his pov since he doesn't understand how to build up a farm system as quickly as AA can.
  12. Really sad to see AA go and think he was underrated if anything. But on the bright side there is now something to follow for the next bit until players start signing. The Jays probably have too good of an offense to screw up for next season so we will be fine. I am already wondering how this will effect (affect?) ... effect.. EE and Bautista coming up on free agency. Could throw away any chance on getting a good deal there. Good also potentially save us from making a mistake.
  13. Should I apologize or insult you for taking that seriously. What's the protocol?
  14. It is amazing how bad of an eye for talent people have around here. Losing AA is as significant as unexpectedly losing a real good player. Hopefully we get lucky with his replacement.
  15. Beeston was talking about his love for the Jays. Maybe Beeston will take over as team GM. It is possible AA didn't like how a few things went down. I also believe it was possible, especially after the gong show this playoffs, that maybe Shapiro didn't want Gibby around.
  16. The annoying part about all this might be that AA is so tight lipped we might not ever get a full, true picture of what happened.
  17. You're dumb dumb. I'm rubber you're glue
  18. Shapiro is an idiot. If he was any smart at all he would have made the Carrasco trade to the Jays. But honestly, Carrasco seems primed to be a stud and Shapiro was shopping him as if he didn't even know. We really trust this guy more than AA? Sure Shapiro might make a few less mistakes but he also hits less home runs.
  19. Yes probably. Really I'd rather have AA than Shapiro. It's the GM who really makes the on field stuff happen. Well hopefully we hire somebody really good. We will see. I really think AA was great and was only going to get better.
  20. AA seemed really well respected around the league though. Part of why he could get those deals done. Was a breath of fresh air after half the GMs seemed to not want to deal with Ricciardi.
  21. People talk about Shapiro developing players. AA completely turned our minor leagues around twice in very short notice. Not only is he good at getting talent but also at pumping up prospects and getting them some name recognition.
  22. Exactly. He wasn't perfect but he was as hard working as anyone, seemed to build good relationships around the league and was willing to learn and listen. He was also clearly very sharp.
  23. People here love Shapiro. I would trust AA more than him. People also have this idea AA doesn't use analytics. Of course he does and he alluded to it many times. He has made some amazing deals, many more good than bad and now we are left to the unknown. Maybe Shapiro said he didn't want Gibby back and AA left because of it?
  24. WTH. AA was good and one of the hardest working GMS in the league. Say what you will about some moves from a few years ago, but the guy also was very willing to learn from mistakes and get better. I think he would have only kept improving. Just wow.... I am very disappointed. The only good thing is after the Jays run there should be interest from a lot of good candidates.
