  1. They might not be fully committed to the 4th starter. I mean a 4th starter makes sense in theory. Pitchers lose effectiveness on short rest so you don't want to do it unless you have to but given their 4th starter options, they might have to if they're not up in the series by then. Conversely, it would be crazy for the Jays to negate their depth advantage and force anyone to pitch on short rest when they have so little drop off 1 through 4.
  2. What about a medieval style logo with the four sandwiches? It would tie in to the assigned Medieval roles we were given by Min. I'm thinking something like what I posted below.
  3. He's better from the left side for sure but if we're talking about Navarro's ability to switch hit (which we were) than I think it's valid to bring up Smoak's. Smoak's weak side split is pretty close to Navarro's strong side split (with the caveat of tiny unregressed sample sizes of course).
  4. Yeah that was awful thought I did get a chuckle at Martin (wisely) trying to avoid the swarm. Was probably just as worried as we were watching it.
  5. Smoak's a switch hitter too.
  6. Chatwood's splits were just ridiculous, 1.69 ERA on the road, 6.12 ERA at Coors Field. Someone who likes to make sit/start decisions based on matchups rather than just ride whoever they have like I do could have gotten decent value out of him this year.
  7. This is a gloriously dumb story. The Tebow sideshow begins.
  8. I don't really take those quotes as digs towards Bautista. If anything I take it as a dig at some of the players who are gone, specifically notorious lolygagger Adam Lind and notorious hot head Brett Lawrie.
  9. I wasn't familiar with those rules though it makes sense. My scenario goes against the spirit of the rule (I'd still do it if was allowed though which I guess is why it's good that there's a rule).
  10. I don't mind the way Barney handles the stick. He's not that much worse than most pinch hitting options and he's a lot better than Navarro which you know is who Gibby would want to use. I'm more concerned about the defensive clusterf*** if something happens to Barney and Travis isn't available.
  11. I think it would make sense to roster Goins as an extra infielder for two days as extra Travis coverage and then determine whether to drop Goins or a reliever when Liriano comes back based on how Travis is doing. Maybe a bit shitfty but within the rules.
  12. Geez... Just give Bautista the q.o. In the unlikely event that he accepts, you can live with it. Keeps some firepower in the lineup and doesn't impact your plans long term. He looked good down the stretch. Not crazy to think he could have a bounce back season and live up to the salary and if he doesn't well it just means you're in the same spot next year but with an extra year of data to guide your decision. And that's assuming he accepts which is pretty doubtful in the first place.
  13. I was one before Game 3 on Sunday.
  14. I understand that but at the same time our level of confidence has no impact on anything so I figure might as well be calm and optimistic.
  15. I feel pretty good about the chances of taking Game 1 with Estrada and once that's done, the outlook for the Jays looks pretty good.
  16. Yeah... I was blown away by that. Good on Ross too for putting the ball where he could do that.
  17. Gibbons is an old school manager but he's an old school manager in the Earl Weaver mold which gets you a lot closer to new school manager than a small ball loving old school manager in the Whitey Herzog mold.
  18. Donaldson may be unpopular with opponents but I don't sense a rift within the team. The team seems to rally around it's leaders and around Donaldson in particular. I doubt this is a real issue for Jays management. I think Billy Beane might have made it too much of an issue back in his Oakland days and Beane was mad to look a fool for it.
  19. There's so much more to it than that though and I think you must know this. Just to give a really, really broad history lesson... Back in the Middle Ages, the Pope made it illegal for Christians to make interest loans. This in essence gave Jewish people an instant monopoly on the banking industry. This is how they gained control of the financial sector. It goes back centuries. You can also trace all the stereotypes about Jews being greedy and miserly back to this as well. As for the Natives, it's harder to regain your influence in society when you never had it to being with. As soon as the white people arrived, the natives were f***ed. They lost most of their population to European diseases for which they had no immunity before the white man even had to commit the first act of genocide (which still came anyways though). Unlike the Jewish people the Indians have never even had a role in white society and in our lifetime they were subjected to one of the most aggressive acts of forced assimilation in history (the last residential school was only closed in 1996!!!).
  20. That's the point.
  21. It's not offensive. It's just not true. Fighting anti-semitism is a huge thing. If the team were called the Kikes or something, you can bet they would have changed it by now because the Jewish community has a much more effective lobby around these issues than Native Americans have. The BNai Brith, The Jewish Anti Defamation League would be all over something like this and they frequently are in cases that affect them directly which to be fair, is perfectly within their right. I might disagree with them in specific cases but the cause is valid. EDIT: Upon further reflection... Your comment actually is really offensive. Suggesting that the Jewish people are cool because they "got over" WWII is pretty f***ed in addition to being patently false.
  22. I'm surprised that no one took issue with this (not that I'm keen to pick up the argument myself).
  23. The cost of living is so low where I live than I can't imagine moving. I have a riverfront property only 3kms from downtown. No big city job is going to offer me the kind of money it would take to recreate that. I see relatives with much better salaries that live so much more poorly. The amount of money they spend just to ride on the pay highway, or park or rent a home are just repulsive to me. It's harder to get a decent job here but once you have one, you'd be a fool to leave.
  24. This. They still manage it exactly the same. They still try to get a many players into the game. No pitcher wants to pitch a real start. Most hitters wants to be taken out as soon as possible. You can't make players want to risk injury for the All-Star game. They're always going to treat it like an exhibition no matter how hard Bud Selig tried to make them feel otherwise.
  25. Now that there's interleague, I suppose they could go with that record... Unfair but better than most ways.
