  1. TCA's family got rowdy: http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/man-convicted-of-biting-off-fellow-mourner-s-nose-at-wake-1.3123837
  2. This sentence really caught my attention from the Sullivan article: The Blue Jays’ current roster doesn’t feature a lot of depth, unless you’re a huge, huge fan of Ryan Goins. It's like he knows us.
  3. Well I didn't really believe that he's a jerk. I was just saying that a player could very easily get away with being a jerk if he kept a low profile.
  4. It's weird because I don't think he was trying to start s***. If he did, he could just go full troll but this was just a mild but completely unnecessary comment. More of a bad word choice than anything else. He's kind of in the uncanny valley of media savvy. He's pretty well spoken for the most part but he's just not guarded enough in his comments. I feel like there are players who are a lot less eloquent who do a better job with the media just by not really saying anything or having strictly rehearsed responses. Someone like Edwin might be the biggest ******* in the universe for all we know but he barely speaks English much less says anything of substance so we just fill in the blanks with good sentiment.
  5. Yeah you were getting pretty heated for a polar bear. (I'll show myself out.)
  6. I'm not so sure. The current "5th" starter was acquired in that trade after all. I think he would be at least penciled in as the 5th starter though the team would be looking at other options and I don't think bringing back Dickey would be one of them.
  7. I can't see the big wigs at Rogers supporting a rebuild. The market share is just so good right now. They want to hold on to that. Obviously there not going to give Shapiro a blank cheque but they will give him what he feels he needs to keep the team in contention. Also I didn't even realize that was a Cameron article but when I got to the end, I scrolled back to see who had written that poorly argued, poorly researched word count filler. He's not always that bad. In fact people might be judging him unfairly overall based on his worse stuff but this is definitely one of his crap pieces.
  8. Nanas hate Cecil in part because his greatest success has come in middle relief and some of his worst stretches have come as a closer. There's also an overweighing of some rough stretches in 2016 due to recency bias.
  9. I posted this in the Biagini thread but I might as well post it here. Osuna was second on the pitching staff in WPA behind only Sanchez. He's providing tons of value as is. There's really no reason to mess with it.
  10. I like it. I consolidated the two most negative threads into one (the Martin and Bautista ones) and then the rest of the board was mostly positive and/or jokey appreciation threads. I'll take that after a Jays elimination.
  11. Because you posted this instead of starting one?
  12. With the prices that relievers are fetching on the FA market, with the trend towards contenders building shutdown bullpens, I think we have to be careful before making assumptions that guys like Biagini and Osuna would provide more "value" as starters. That way of thinking seems a bit dated. Seems like monetary values on pitchers are falling out of line with WAR and more in line with WPA (tough it's still somewhere in the middle). By wpa, Osuna was second only to Sanchez in value and Biagini was worth more than Stroman.
  13. Seems like this front office's m.o. is to keep the free agent shopping list as short as possible. Trading Happ probably creates a bigger hole than whichever one it addresses and thus puts them in a more vulnerable position than the one they are in now going into free agency. I can't see it.
  14. He wouldn't have to say he doesn't like his job. He could just state a neutral platitude like: "I'm happy doing whatever's best for the team." He's expressed a preference for relieving. There's no reason to think he's being disingenuous.
  15. Yep, I'll admit to doing that. I really thought Storen could close and Osuna could move to an Andrew Miller type role and pitch longer outings. No I'm not so sure that Osuna has the stamina for that. He's perfect in his current role. As for Storen, he basically sucks.
  16. Happ's under control for two years and he won't be overpaid even when you factor regression. No point in moving him to address your needs until you exhaust your FA options. I can understand the desire to capitalize on an unlikely 20 win season but you don't want to swing too far the other way and undervalue the player or his contract just because you expect regression.
  17. So here's the list of free agent catchers. The challenge is finding someone how is good but not so good that he won't accept a backup job behind a 20 million dollar starting catcher. Alex Avila (30) Drew Butera (34) Jason Castro (30) Hank Conger (29) A.J. Ellis (36) Ryan Hanigan (36) — $3.75MM club option with an $800K buyout Nick Hundley (33) Chris Iannetta (34) — $4.25MM club option Jonathan Lucroy (31) — $5.25MM club option with a $25K buyout Jeff Mathis (34) Dioner Navarro (33) A.J. Pierzynski (40) Wilson Ramos (29) Carlos Ruiz (38) — $4.5MM club option with a $500K buyout Jarrod Saltalamacchia (32) Geovany Soto (34) Kurt Suzuki (33) Matt Wieters (31)
  18. Yeah why not? I don't anticipate him falling off a cliff. He showed that the concerns about him having a big regression in 2016 were overblown. I think we pretty much know what he is at this point and I can't see why the team would feel comfortable extending the commitment.
  19. Reminds me of a Shapiro quote about his departure. Something along the lines of "I knew that the systems that needed to be in place were in place and I felt that the team didn't actually need me anymore so it was the perfect time to move on."
  20. O.K. It's really silly to have so many of these but I really do appreciate Estrada. The kind of pitcher's pitcher that the team hasn't had since the days of Jimmy Key. Pitched the only complete game of the entire staff (sadly in the game 1 loss to Cleveland).
  21. Anyone like Beltran? I like that his term is likely to be bery short. Flipside of that is that he's 200 years old.
  22. Another thing that worked in Goins' favour is that he had options and it's always useful to have role players that you can taxi back and forth between the majors and AAA when required. I'm not 100% positive on this but I do believe he will be out of options in 2017. I think this increases the likeliness that he ends up on a different team.
  23. Confirmed. This was essentially the original offer btw. No one came even close to guessing at it.
  24. Osuna isn't even the team's most handsome Mexican.
