1. Yeah it's an intersting thougth experiment anyways. The guy who wrote it used to post on the old board under the name DorMouse and I've seen him post here once under halejon I think. On the old board, he was the most stat savvy guy until Nox came along. Jon has some blind spots that Nox has exposed but he's a still a very interesting guy.
2. Thanks. We just finished the draft. Since this is an elimination league we basically take care of inactive owners that way so it's a long shot that we'll need somone but I'll keep you in mind.
3. JFaS, I suggest you read this article. In it, the author proposes a theory that BABIP might normalize not because it's outside of a pitcher's control but because it's mostly (but not always) a self-regulating process. Whether it's true or not, one thing is sure, there are definitely BABIP beaters out there (most infamously Mariano Rivera) and odds are the opposite exists as well. I would be wary of being so categorical when you qualify all batted ball results a mear luck. It's not that your reasoning isn't sound but in science there are no laws only theories. http://bjays.wordpress.com/2011/02/10/a-different-look-at-babip/
4. No prob. League is full anyways.
5. When I ran my spreadsheets using these stats, I didn't come up with eggregious values on relievers so it should be o.k. I'll definitely revisit the stats next year.
6. Yeah it's a bit of a dick move to make last minute changes but no one else in the league seems to be examining this.
7. I feel like K's may be over-valued. You have K/9, K/BB and straight K's. K/9 mainly benefits relievers so that was my thinking there. Losses is kind of derpy though.
8. Go for it! http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1/52297
9. Draft is tonight at 5pm ET. Details of the format are in the original post. Stats are below. I can make a last minute switch of K/9 for games started to address the possilbe flaw that Abomination identified above. I would appreciate feedback on that even if you don't plan to join.

Batters Stat Categories: Runs ®, Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), Stolen Bases (SB), Walks (BB), Strikeouts (K), Batting Average (AVG), On-base Percentage (OBP), Slugging Percentage (SLG)

Pitchers Stat Categories: Wins (W), Losses (L), Saves (SV), Strikeouts (K), Holds (HLD), Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP), Strikeouts per Walk Ratio (K/BB), Strikeouts per Nine Innings (K/9)

10. I am obviously but I'm pretty maxed out with prospects and draft picks at it is.
11. He's not out for the season. There's no reason for these knee-jerk over-reactions.
12. Oh really? Because from where I'm looking the money was pocketed.
13. It's interesting that Gibbons has started hedging about Goins starting just as the Jays have acquired this guy. Goins does have options. Do the Jays think this guy could start at 2B? Is that the job that he's here to try to earn? It's a bit of last minute Hail Mary if that's the case.
14. I think you mean all reliever staff not pen. You might be right about the flaw in the stats. I didn't set it up myself and the league is fairly casual so I haven't seen anyone exploit any real loopholes. I wasn't the one who created the league or the stat settings but as current comish, I can use my power to make a fix where necesary.
15. Roto points are according to who has the least K's. Losses and Walks for pitchers work the same way.
16. I have a league for which I am the commish that is well short in terms of owners. The league is a rotisserie 9x9 with the twist being that it's an elimination league. We start with 20 teams for two months and then we go through an elimination period where teams are eliminated one by one starting with inactive owners and then working our way through the standings. The final two months are played with only 12. The exciting part is the waiver crazyness that is created when the rosters from the eliminated teams hit the wire. There was a f***up with the invitations that means that we're well short of our usual amount of returning owners. The URL is here: http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1/52297/ Draft is tomrrow at 5pm ET. Let me know if you have issue joining the league. I can send you invitations if necessary (although the league is supposed to be publicly viewable and joinable).
17. The Perez DFA is really mystifying. You would have thought he would have just been put on the 60 day DL. Maybe there was a union issue with the injury being not quite serious enough to justify 60 days? Even if that's the case, there were some more obvious DFA candidates that should have had the axe before resorting to a Perez DFA. A for T., a right-handed batter who can play both the infield and the outfield could steal some starts from Goins and Lind against LHP and be a perfect fit for this team, perfect that is if he could hit but it doesn't sound like he has the kind of strong platton split you'd want from the role (then again Sierra doesn't have a platoon split either and he's slated to be the main RH option). Different s*** to throw against the wall I guess. If you're going to have a short bench than defensive versatiliy would help.
18. There's a previous thread dedicated to pitchers. He made it and so did Loaiza.
19. Ells was slumping very badly at the time and there was an over-reaction. People said he had become a one category player . He turned it around pretty much immediately and practically carried my team into the semis.
20. Zimmerman and Ellsbury were burning a hole through my pocket. I had a strong fear market value would plummet on both in 2014. That's the kind of thing that concerns you when you're operating like a small market team and at this point, there's no doubt that I am. I have gone 180 since the start of the league. I have gone from being an all-in guy to someone who feels very confident in his ability to build through the draft and prospect trades.
