  1. Have you watched it lately?
  2. The Natural is so over the top it's laughable. He doesn't just knock the cover off the ball, he literally knocks the cover the over the ball. He doesn't just hit a homerun, he hits it into the lights and practically starts a meteor shower. Nothing can ever just happen in that movie. Everything has to be cranked up to a ridiculous degree but I suppose it's entertaining even if you have to constantly roll your eyes at it. Pride of the Yankees, on the other hand, is just plain bad. It is incredibly wooden and amateurish. Like I said earlier, it's a one scene movie. It's remembered for that Gehrig speech but it's shockingly inept up to that point.
  3. I'm surprised The Babe beat out Mr. Baseball. I haven't seen either but The Babe seems to be nearly universally loathed.
  4. Pride of the Yankees is not good but because it ends with the stirring Gehrig speech, it's become a classic because everyone remembers that scene and no one remembers just how awful evertything leading up to it is. http://youtu.be/HbNrCxqxzgo
  5. The Naked Gun is not technically a baseball movie but it deserves some sort of honourable mention:
  6. Have you ever seen the Bad News Bears? I haven't seen it myself but it seems like it should be good enough to crack a top 15.
  7. I don't love Eight Men Out but it has to be considered the most true to history of all the baseball films, much more so than Moneyball even if it's less entertaining. Sugar, even though it's entirely fictional, might be the only other realistic baseball movie from the list.
  8. The old board used to have threads that were basically just there for blatant non-negative homerism and it's good for the board to have those "safe places". The Kalfus thread is a bit of a special case but if it's sincere, no one should have a problem with it. I think the issue though is that a lot of us thought it was some sort of put-on by King, or by both you and King, using multiple accounts. In fact, wasn't there an IP report that suggested as much?
  9. I like the idea of eliminating the sub-forum but I don't like the idea of stickying up the main thread. If there's something new, we'll just see it near the top anyways but if there's nothing new, it will just push the threads with actual updates further down the page and that's annoying. The stickies take up more than enough room as it is IMO.
  10. Dear Jonathan, Did you not read ECJF's rant about how short answers are rude? That's when NJH started this trend. Sincerely, KingKat
  11. So suddenly it's no big deal to start Goins at ss? Good thing. Goins/Diaz at ss and Izturis everyday at 2B is what makes sense right now.
  12. They have one on Fremont street in Vegas. I didn't know it was there. I walked past it, repulsed.
  13. Easy to forget. I don't think anyone expected him to stick around past the weekend. The main reason he's still here is that he hasn't make an appearance. If they had needed to go to the bullpen early, they would have burned and demoted him. It still could happen. It largely depends on how close the DL pitchers are to coming back. If they're close, there's no point in demoting him.
  14. Colby. I have seen Colby goes through stretches where it seems like all he can do is strikeout and couldn't possibly get a hit but he always comes around.
  15. - Walden goes down as soon as the 1st pitcher comes back (easiest move to make) - Kratz goes down as soon as the second one does - Goins goes down when Reyes comes back With Diaz capable of backing up the OF, I could see Sierre DFA'd in favour of Francisco as a 4th move.
  16. Bad game overall for the Tigers. They also had this low-light: http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/8878994/v31929927/detlad-martinez-retired-on-dead-ball-foul/?c_id=det

I don't understand the Grange quote at all. So why is he given a second chance exactly if he eliminates all the reasons? Is it because of Lithuanian softball? Maybe it's me but I don't get it at all.
  18. Like most people he probably has no idea what he looks like from behind but unlike most people he won't be spared the site. He must have been some bummed (pun intended) when he saw that.
  19. Well it shows that the pitching has not been quite as bad as it may seem.
  20. The ratios are fine. More innings are needed.
  21. I think there's a contradiction in how scouting is done and what we know about small sample size. We won't give any significance to statistical results over a small sample size but many scouting reports from Law in particular are observations based on seeing a guy in a single game. Does that really tell us anything? Are a player's mechanice really always the same? Are player's really that consistent? Something tells me they probably aren't. They probably have days where they do everything right and flash ridiculous upside and days where they look like a mess and look like busts. Not to mention, the scout himself (or herself although I don't think there are many female scouts out there) may be more sharp on some days and others, more likely to pick up or not pick up on certain things.
  22. Looks like some posts were lost but it was totally worth it. I couldn't get the forum to load other than on my phone yesterday.
  23. That's a lot of middle infielders to carry. More realistically, Diaz at SS full time for now with Izturis, Goins platoon (Izturis everyday might be prefferable but the team doesn't seem to want to move Goins from 2B to SS and Izturis at SS is not an option). If Reyes comes back fully healthy and Izturis establishes that he's not the disaster he was last year, I think you could see both Diaz and Goins gone in favor of a Kawa/Izturis platoon at 2B. Kawa isn't great at SS but he's good enough to be the main backup if Reyes is healthy enough to play everyday and he should provide a solid platoon split and solid enough 2B defense.
  24. If he worked for Baseball Canada than he must have known Bob Elliott.
