We were all a lot dumber back then. As fans, we thought Olerude wasn't good anymore. It's kind of like some of the crap you still hear about Joey Votto.
Well I was a fan of getting Headley before the Lawrie trade and FWIW I have said as much. If Lawrie comes back healthy and you have to move him to 2B, that's a nice problem to have. For one think, if you have everyday players at 2B and 3B, it opens up bench options such as rostering Kratz.
I was just going to say that. Saying Prado went for very little is misleading. The financial commitment was considerable. Headley and McCarthy were much more realistic targets.
Anyone interested in Odor and/or Owings? I have a lot of middle infielders in my system so I'd like to diversify. I could package some young pitching and or picks in a deal if that helps.
I hope so... I don't have a lot of big pieces I can leverage anymore so I really wanted to make it count. My original plan was to try to create a package around one my elite relievers to nab a cornerstone guy but that's nearly impossible to do since the other owners value my relievers less than I do (I took a lot of heat for my Chapman trade). Getting a guy like Odorizzi who (hopefully) is on the upswing was probably the best I could do.
Cuts both ways though. Being the best player on a bad team provides you with opportunities you don't get on a good team (says the complete NBA ignoramus).
Well he knows nothing except whatever it is you pick up when you have a HOF baseball career. Terrible broadcaster but awesome and increasingly underrated player.
...and FWIW, their on-field product is better too. Not quite the scorched earth Astros approach. Both teams are finally starting to have some nice elements in place but we can't put more faith in the Cubs front office to making whatever investments needed to put the finishing touches. Who knows with the Astros?
