  1. Either that or he's just covering his tracks and trying to make himself look less less hypocritical for ultimately turning down a reasonable offer from the Jays. I doubt the Jays have any intention of increasing their offer. AA's comments on PTS were pretty clear that they weren't close and he didn't expect them to get close. Melky and his agent have probably written off the Jays at this point and now Melky is spinning to make it seem like it's about the turf. That being said, he does highlight a real issue. Do we really want this guy patrolling the Roger Centre turf going forward? He's barely mobile as it is and playing on the turf can't help. It's time for the fans to move on. The Jays already have and so has Melky.
  2. It's almost as if athletes don't actually give a s*** about who actually pays their paycheck and which fans they are playing in front of.
  3. I feel pretty silly for drafting Cody Martin in the LOD. I also drafted Mike O'Neill in the initial DDL draft.
  4. Could have still traded Gose for Travis regardless.
  5. How is Pompey not a CF? You're confusing me.
  6. In an universe where the Jays get huge contributions from young players like Pompey, Stroman, Hutch, Norris, etc.

  8. Good. Hope they land him. Force to the Red Sox to at least trade for pitching.

    Here's an oldie for you:
  10. Oh I'm not criticizing the Jays for not knowing how good Yu was. I'm criticizing them because the opportunity to have an exclusive negotiation right on a major free agent was worth more to them than it was to most other teams given their difficulties attracting free agents and their supposed 5 year limit. That made it a gamble worth taking but it was unquestionably a gamble.
  11. Yu was such a missed opportunity. He litterally couldn't say no if the Jays were willing to pony up the money.
  12. Pretty much no one thought they would be as terrible as they were but a lof of people thought that they had a lot of holes for a supposedly all-in team. A lot of people predicted that they wouldn't win with that group unless they kept throwing even more money at it. There was legitimate concern that a rare bump in payroll had been somewhat squandered.
  13. It's really f***in' hard to develop talent like Encarnacion and Bautista. You have to ride it out with them. The offense will be good if they merely plug the remaining holes. Run prevention will be boosted considerably by Martin and possibly by Pompey as well if he lives up to our dreams.
  14. I remember taking Randy Johnson and Kevin Brown with back to back picks in their heyday and dominating my league. It was really hard to lose with Johnson in rottiserie back in his heyday. Every start was like Christmas.
  15. Do we know for sure that he isn't playing SS?
  16. For what's little it's worth, I higlhy doubt Lind is a clubhouse cancer. He certainly has been on the same team for a long time for a supposed cancer. He does however have a reputation for being kind of a lazy player and he did seem very close to Lawrie. It might have been more about being a negative influence than anything else. The organization does seem preoccupied with providing Lawrie with the right kind of buddy. There may also have been some lingering friction between Gibbons and Lind. Lind reacted very strangely to the Gibbons re-hiring. He said something to the effect that Gibbons better have a better coaching staff this time around which was certainly an odd thing to blurt out.
  17. Wouldn't surprise me if it was an "either he goes or I go" kind of situation.
  18. Not sure what happened with his Rogers gig. He had left baseball to take it but maybe something went wrong behind the scenes. It's too bad. Even if he can be kind of trollish and annoying, he still offers a valuable counter-point to the kind of lazy tropes Zaun dishes out.
  19. I'm not taking a shot at him as a player. I'm taking a shot at him as a writer. Yeah he was a scrub player but I don't care about that unless he takes a full paragraph to redefine "scrub". Hayhurst annoys me frequently but it has nothing to with the player he was. I don't think you have to be a certain level of player to be entitled to your opinion. I'm not Greg Zaun.
  20. The part where he redefines what a scrub is so that it defines Ryan Howard and no him was pretty rich. The worst part of the article by far. Over time, Hayhurst gets harder and harder to like. I guess it makes sense that he works for Bleacher Report now because he's practically gone full troll.
  21. ... or perhaps their plan all along was to make big commitments last year and let the market come to them this year.
  22. This seems really over the top.
  23. A penny saved.
  24. Yeah pretty quiet over there. Justin Wilson doesn't seem like much of a return for Cervelli.
