  1. I feel like there's a reference I'm missing here. Sandoval?
  2. If Estrada is the biggest disappointment then I'd say things are going pretty well.
  3. Ultimately, the teams that look the smartest are the ones that are willing to apply the knowledge not the people with the most knowlegeable people.
  4. Did you have an organization in mind?
  5. Bluebird Banter addressed this very same scenario and came to the conclusion that it was a bad idea: http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2015/1/27/7918463/the-case-against-marco-estrada-reliever Then they looked at his potential as a 5th starter and came to the conclusion that he could provide pretty similar production that Happ did in the same role: http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2015/2/6/7990053/the-case-for-marco-estrada-starter It's good stuff. They put way more research into it than any of us are likely to do.
  6. The funny thing is that we all thought AA was being cheap when he said he paid too much to get Navarro. I remember I was all like, "he's your starting catcher ffs, 8 million / 2 years is nothing" but AA was right. Navarro was expensive because he was only a starting catcher by default. His skill set just isn't good enough to be a starter on an average MLB team and his backloaded deal is proving really hard to get out of.
  7. Lucroy is only missing spring training and his backup is better than Navarro anyways. Chirinos in Texas is bettet than Navarro. DBacks have s*** but they overvalue it. Maybe Detroit opens up but they won't trade from an already thin bullpen and they have no farm. They might give you salary relief. That might be worth it.
  8. If there were still good players out there I might agree with you but we're talking a full season of somoene like K-Rod here. I feel like anyone you bring in at this point is just someone you're spending on for the sake of spending. It would be foolish to do that if it kept you from potentially making a major acquisition. There could definitely be players out there who bring in more in a partial season than K-Rod et all in a full one.
  9. Considering that all the bullpen roles are in flux at the moment, I'd say pretty slim.
  10. Not necessarily. It all depends on what possibilities an extra 5 million dollars opens up. Potentially, trading him for nothing could be much better than keeping him.
  11. Maybe there is money and AA would rather save some payroll flexibility for a deadline move. That flexibility is probably worth more than whatever free agents are left at this point.
  12. Whether he was rushed or not is not my point. My point was that if more of his development had taken place in the minors, he would have gotten more prospect recognition.
  13. No he wasn't. He was called up pretty early.
  14. Not great. I was right about Stroman, wrong about Burns and went way too deep with my sleepers. I didn't pick a bust. Here's my attempts for this year. Busts: Since expectations are really high for all of them, I'm just going to be a Moogy level troll and put all the top 2014 draftees here, Hoffman, Pentecost, Reid-Foley and I'll throw in Alford too for good measure. Sleeper: Evan Smith Breakout: Taylor Cole, Matt Boyd, Juan Oramas Comeback: Alberto Tirado (Nowhere to go but up right? Right?)
  15. I see that Spanky enjoyed his birthday in style: http://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/698863 He's a feisty one.
  16. He was a great prospect. The fact that a lot of his development had to come at the Major League level really clouded that.
  17. Wisler plus salary relief would have been nothing to sneeze at.
  18. More bad news. I just read that they expect Lucroy to be ready for opening day.
  19. They have a good glove, bad bat guy in Maldonado. Putting a bad glove, good bat guy in front of him probably isn't worth the money it would cost.
  20. Latest reports on Bickford really aren't that great. Can't keep his velocity up as a starter. Probably destined for relief.
  21. I edited my original post to add a mention of Jenkins.
  22. Maybe Chad Jenkins if he doesn't make the bullpen out of spring training. Otherwise, Matt Boyd isn't on the 40 man but he could force his way into the conversation if he picks up where left off last year. Otherwise, it should be noted that both Hendriks and Redmond are out of options so you have to figure only one of the two will act as a long reliever/swing man and the other will get traded or become a short reliever.
  23. I missed the whole "2016" part. I thought he meant this year which is why I disqualified Hoffman. A lot can change between now and 2016 and Hoffman probably has the clearer path. That being said, there could be other breakouts that aren't on the radar right now.
