  1. No one wants Hendriks to get a lot of starts because it means something went wrong with better pitchers. No one wants that to happen but that doesn't mean not preparing for the possibilty.
  2. Guy who pitched well in 2014 = s***. Guy who hasn't pitched well in six years = talent.
  3. Why is Drabek the better talent? You say that like it's obvious. He hasn't had a good season since 2009 in A+. That's six years of nothing. He's not the better talent. Sometimes prospect evaluators get it wrong. It happens. There's a lot more merit in holding on to Hendriks for some spot starts than holding on to Drabek for the ghost of upside.
  4. Well I'm certainly keeping him over Drabek for one.
  5. Taking him out of an ideal run environment and expecting better success in a much worse one seems like a dubious plan.
  6. Wait you want to cut Hendriks? That's dumb. Front office might be dumb too though.
  7. They gave up Lind, then they gave up the opportunity to cut Estrada for nothing by settling his arb. It's obvious by the latter that they value him as a depth piece. You don't just throw away all you depth options because of "competition". It's not f***ing Survivor. I also think they will try to sneak him to AAA but not because he's no good but because there's the hope of clearing him. I don't think they'll just "oh well" if he gets claimed. They'll pull him back or try to trade him for someone with options. With Nolin and Sanchez already here, it's obvious they could really use him as depth.
  8. I vaguely remember that as well though it was 18k. This was also captured in baseball cards. http://millercards.net/im_gd_large/gd039.jpg It's funny to think how tied to baseball cards my memories this era of baseball is. I honestly couldn't care less about them now.
  9. I knew it at the time. He was definitely a star and Pedro was know as his little brother. The baseball card of them together was pretty popular. http://www.grandstandsports.com/images/17819.jpg I'm really bad at remembering stuff from this long ago though. I'm 39 and the recall just isn't as it used to be. I had to think about it for a while before the memory came back. I'd pretty much forgotten all about Ramon Martinez. IIRC, he faded pretty quickly and dramatically just as Pedro emerged. It's been a solid decade at least since I gave him any thought.
  10. Intriguing thought. Possibly would mean Pillar kept back for AAA depth if and when Saunders is healthy which isn't a bad thing per say but I can't really see the Jays doing that.
  11. I don't really get it either though. They must think there's some sort of benefit to getting initial MLB exposure out of the way.
  12. Reminds me of Snider's initial September callup. It's like as soon as these GMs feel the heat, all the rules go out the window.
  13. It was really important to have him pitch in the bullpen during a non-competitive September for some reason.
  14. Fair enough. I should probably start believing right about now.
  15. And he was tucked away in the minors when he was at his worse to protect that shiny ratio. Career seasons happen.
  16. Would it make a difference if it was for this season?
  17. Why is Delabar practically guaranteed a job? He's been solid enough this spring but I'm still not convinced that he's actually good as opposed to just a guy who was good for awhile. Hes has options so I probably wouldn't make a decision on him until the very end.
  18. I know it sucks that Kratz was traded for him but I don't really get the Valencia hate otherwise. Didn't Nox run a regression last year that determined that his platoon split was legit?
  19. My first four picks in this league were Rizzo, Bryant, Harvey and Betts. That's probably not a formula to win but it's good for the nerd-gasm.
  20. I'm a fan of both but even if they both do well and Lawrie too, there's much to be said for consolidating your assets. A 6 to 7 WAR guy is worth a lot more than 6-7 WAR spread among three guys. Enough to justify giving up Barreto.
  21. Two last minute spots open!
  22. That would make a ton of sense but sadly, it's probably too unconventional. I have never heard of pitchers being "platooned" in this fashion.
  23. Yeah I'd rather do it the other way. Keep Hendriks and see if Estrada clears. He's tied to a bigger salary too which helps in this context.
  24. Have to admit that he's escaped my notice up to this point.
