  1. I wouldn't say it's terribly likely that Travis comes back quickly but if he did it would make the decision even more inconsequential.
  2. Chapman and Rzep off the top of my head.
  3. Well that's now what you typically expect from Lott. He used to be a reliable reporter, this soap-boxing is a new unfortunate turn.
  4. No real need to read beyond that point. Basically his premise is that every starting prospect turned reliever had this unlimited potential that was ruined by yo-yo-ing. There isn't a single word about how little Sanchez has accomplished as a starter in his pro career. It's all just wishful thinking.
  5. It's pretty specious reasoning to say that people who oppose a specific change that you personally favour (or at least don't actively dislike) are therefore simply against change.
  6. So you've already forgotten that you argued tooth and nail that Sanchez was superior to Stroman?
  7. So basically you can't even come up with one example. That's what I thought.
  8. Lake has been a positive base runner for his career. Could be a decent pinch runner but he's not a good backup outfielder. Probably better suited to a 5th OF role than a 4th but I don't see the team rolling with two guys.
  9. Zeke was a guy who I was excited to see the team acquire last year but he's one of those players who looks so much worse in real life than on paper.
  10. Lake and Zeke don't have options so if you run with either Ceciliani or Pompey, the other automatically becomes the Plan B. That being said, there are probably some better out of options outfielders out there facing roster crunches of their own. There might be a scenario where both you can use both options without resorting to a pukey 4th OF.
  11. Assuming you have to go with a somewhat conventional lineup and that none of the core hitters want to do it, Saunders is still a better choice than Pillar.
  12. So if Straily for Jimenez happens, we're looking at... Stroman Dickey Estrada Happ Floyd Storen Osuna Cecil Chavez Straily Choate/Venditte/Girodo Delabar/Biagini With Chavez, Danks and Straily all out of options, you pretty much have to give one of them the 5th spot and put the other two in the pen. This would pretty much guarantee Sanchez starts the season in the minors and losing at least one of Biagini or Delabar unless a trade can be swung for Biagini.
  13. Well s***. I'd do that in a heartbeat.
  14. I've heard 1B. Would really kill his value but they might not have a choice.
  15. Pentecost might not be a catcher at all anymore. He really shouldn't factor in this discussion until his comeback is further along.
  16. All glove no bat catchers aren't exactly a rarity. Cheung is probably a better catcher, main difference is that he doesn't have any residual prospect shine but he'd probably provide as much value. Thole isn't really any worse either. Sanchez MIGHT be lesser defensively (if we're going by old scouting reports on A.J.'s glove) but he's an infinitely more valuable player as someone who can actually hit a little while playing the position. Jimenez is a non-asset. The only reason the Astros might want him is as a dirt cheap fill-in for Stassi. They'd dfa him as soon as the later came back.
  17. Even if that were true (which it isn't), do you want to run three catchers on the 25?
  18. I think given what a lefty killing lineup this is, the concern is pretty moot. Most teams will shield their lhps from Toronto and those who don't will get shelled.
  19. I'm glad they didn't stage some phony competition for Pompey. If the plan is to have him in the minors, might as well be honest with him about that and what the reasons are. No point in toying with him.
  20. And the alternative to the opt out is probably a longer contract not a shorter one so I don't see the downside at all.
  21. Makes sense. Don't want him in a bench role. He'll get his chance.
  22. Seems like holding back Girodo as depth would be a smart play. He only has 4 innings in AAA so an assignment to Buffalo seems to make sense. Venditte and Choate can battle it out.
  23. Oh wow... Didn't know about that. Was on vacation at the time.
  24. Good for Aaron I guess but I have to admit that I'd really like to see what Chad Girodo can do in his role.
