  1. He won't necessarily be this bad all season. That doesn't mean anyone here actually likes him.
  2. I have to remind myself that there were points last year when I thought Dickey was absolutely done and he came back way stronger than I expected. That rationalization doesn't make watching him any more fun.
  3. I wish the Jays had at least destroyed Stephen Wright. Would ease some of the pain of watching Dickey pitch.
  4. Totally Gallo-ed that one.
  5. I have my doubts... You don't hear about too many 6 homerun games and triples are rarer than homeruns.
  6. Holy f***. Has that ever happened at any level ever?
  7. Except that it sort of is working or at least giving the illusion of working. If Stroman keeps right on the edge of the quality start threshold, it will reinforce the idea that his approach is the right one.
  8. I was really surprised it was kept up for another season. I mean I get that it's a cheap way to squeeze SOME production from the spot but it's definitely sub-optimal in terms of roster construction. Not enforcing the platoon just makes it worse. The bright side (as I've said before) is that it does leave the door open for Bautista to get more starts away from the OF though even that fringe benefit is negated by the current absence of a decent 4th OF.
  9. I think some people have all their email notifications from this league turned off. It can generate a lot of emails depending on your settings. Sometimes you just have to reach out.
  10. Two of those season are in the AL and K rates are comparable. In fact 2009 Blue Jays and 2010 Phillies are nearly identical.
  11. Well good. I they had called a balk because JB basically baited the pitcher into it that would just be bad for baseball.
  12. I think he's quoting Orioles Hangout. Doesn't make sense to post ITT otherwise.
  13. Man, that was not the day in the park I was hoping for. Almost got away. Gibby pulled all the right levers today. Osuna in the 8th was a game saver.
  14. I don't think Bautista was trying to bait a balk there. He gave the pitcher a free strike and the pitcher balked instead. Really weird AB.
  15. Yeah I get that. I'm just saying that normally the CF wouldn't range into RF like that but Pillar has the right idea calling off Bautista whenever possible.
  16. That was Bautista's ball but Pillar had the right idea.
  17. What the hell is up with the undervaluing of Kratz? It's not just the Jays. Signed by the Padres to a MiLB contract on December 11. A LOT of teams had a shot at Kratz. Who woudn't want a ace framer as your backup C?
  18. No they couldn't. They backed themselves against a wall with the Marlins trade. They were all in and yet still short on talent and they were right in that assessement. There's a reason the dickey trade happened in December and not earlier. If there was something better out there, they would have taken it. The right thing to do was to not put themselves in a "all in" position in the first place. Well that's REAL easy to say with the benefit of hindsight. He was coming off a Cy Young season. They thought he was AT WORST and innings hitter but there was reason to believe that because he was a knuckleballer that projections weren't sizing him up properly and that he might actually be an ace and a cheap one to boot which is kind of a baseball unicorn because cheap controllable aces don't get traded. Sure this rationale proved to be false but it wasn't nearly as black and white at the time. It was a calculated risk that MADE ALL THE SENSE in the world once you've ALREADY MADE THE MISTAKE of going all in.
  19. Dickey being WHO he was is what made the trade possible. That's the reason he was signed for so cheap and even on the trade market. Dickey being WHO he was is what created what seemed like a unique opportunity.

I think you're more likely to see Powell start over Carroll than PPat over Scola. Ideally, you'd see both of course.
  21. Dickey was potentially a cheap ace (as it turns out he was more of an innings eater but there was reason to believe he wouldn't age normally). The rationale for the Dickey trade was solid in context. The problem was the context in the first place. AA's decision to go all in was a huge strategic blunder and Dickey is just one element of that more fundamental mistake. If it had been the right time to go all in, the Dickey trade could have been like the Jeff Kent trade even if Dickey wasn't quite an Ace, he could have been part of a playoff run on a better team. The real issue is going all in with a mediocre team. Why? They weren't coming off a good season. They had too many holes to think they could fill them all in one off season and some of the attempts to plug holes only opened up other ones (that disastrous Cleveland trade).

Nice illustration of how relatively unimportant Derozan is.

This game has been every bit as satisfying as that first one was demoralizing.
