    Smart move by Santana. I don't know why he would want to sign a 1 year deal in hitter friendly parks in the AL east. Would have loved him on a 1 year deal though.

    The book states they aggressively pursued him early. Talked about multiple dinners, ect. According to the book AA said he wanted to get a deal done early and said they were willing to go 5 years but never mentioned a number. They internally valued him at 5 and 75 million. Once the Agent said they were looking for 8ish years and needed to talk to other teams....AA moved on. It's pretty clear he didn't want to come to Toronto.

    God Damnit. Ive stated i don't really have a boner for Santana on this board here in the past. However, on a 1 year deal who gives a f***. It's really doubtful at this point in the off season we spend the money on anything else. It shouldn't have any impact on future payroll since its a 1 year deal. We have a limited window. f***, give him 1 year and 16 million. who gives a s*** if it turns out to be negative surplus value. It's 1 year.

    He also wanted to play close to home. San Diego really was the perfect place for him.

    He probably could have gotten more if he wanted. He was very specific on where he wanted to pitch. There were teams offering 10 million and if it was just about money he probably could have gotten 1 year around 11 million.

    Yes. But you get every other sport with the rogers package. If you have a nice big screen tv and follow multiple sports it's a no brainer.
