  1. I think they are in a position where they didn't want to risk him accepting and then their hands being tied on doing other moves. Their rotation is pretty decent even without Burnett but they need a little bit more fire power in that lineup to advance further in the playoffs. When I'm back in the hometown my dad gets Root (which is Pitts sports channel) and I believe that's how they explained it.
  2. Friendly flirting?
  3. I hear you on that. I REALLY can't justify spending hundreds of dollars on something that I don't think I'd use very often. It's hard to rationally justify spending one month's rent on a video game system unless you plan to use it frequently. I'd love to play The Show on a PS3 or 4 but for right now it's just PS2 for me!
  4. It's the gettingoffseason
  5. So did the Red Sox, apparently.
  6. This is what I meant. Just because the big names didn't sign yet with "skyrocketed" figures doesn't mean that the mid-level starters haven't. If mid-level starters are getting 10 million, what's another 4 for a pitcher who was once among the best pitchers in baseball. And it's not like JJ is in his late 30s. The man will be 30 this season.
  7. I feel like AA just underestimated how the price of pitching was going to skyrocket. looking back on it now $14 million doesn't seem horrible for someone with JJ potential.
  8. There should be an "easily replaceable" in there too.
  9. If the players allow social media to get into their heads they should just stay away from it.
  10. I wouldn't. It would make me cry at the state of humanity. Like when I found out that Snookie made more money to give a college commencement speech than I did all last year. Single tear.
  11. I have no problem bring in his reputation if he is a borderline Hall of Fame candidate. To be fair he has a great reputation. But as you said, his stats are not Hall of Fame worthy, so this reputation shouldn't not even need to come into play.
  12. I don't know this guys background but from going to school for communication I can tell you what I know about most (mostly fellows) who want to be sports journalists: they are goddamn awful at math. Chances are this man uses things like wins and Cy Young votes because he doesn't understand more complicated statistics. Also, there's been some sort of performance enhancing drugs in baseball for a long time. Cocaine in the 60s-80s, anabolic steroids later. And to be fair, no one can be certain when steroids started being prevalent in baseball. If Jack Morris gets in Dave Stieb should be in too.
  13. Unless it's about penises
  14. Ugh! So sad. I wonder if he'd be willing to work with RR.
  15. Offensively Thon Jr has started to come around by just looking at his statistics. Although he seems to make a ton of errors. Has anyone seen him play? Does he have good range and gets to balls most SS can't? Bad hands? Russ Adams throwing arm?
  16. I like that we have a lot of prospect pitchers in the lower minors but I agree with you that there aren't nearly enough high profile position players down there. Pitching is great, and it's good to have those players to fill the major league roster and as trade bait, but we need to supplement them with some offensive players as well. You can't just be pitching heavy and expect everything to turn out fine and dandy.
  17. Well yeah but that's for you and your wife. And women are cray-cray!
  18. When I was in Vancouver I probably spent that much on food, a Canadians game (Nessy looked like s*** that game), a place to stay, etc. But when I'm in Philly $100 is my limit.
  19. Couldn't you be put out to stud to produce younger, more viral posters?
  20. I guess it just depends on how you're brought up. I love having a good time, but my days of dropping $100 a night on a night out are behind me. I always try to put away $200 a month just because.
  21. It's because you stopped doing your minor league reports.
  22. My one roommate makes about 10 grand more a year than I do and I still have more money left over every month even after buying a brand new car. There is absolutely no budgeting on her part, and after talking to a lot of people around my age (26), it's really not uncommon. It blows my mind.
  23. I'd almost prefer to try to get Mark Ellis for a year and see if Zobrist's club option is exercised by Tampa. In all likelihood it will be but if we can't find a controllable, young, second baseman (cough Mariners cough) or a player who is older and incredibly durable and versatile like Zobrist, I'd prefer to go shorter term year to year on a 2nd baseman.

  25. A's are also sending cash to the Rockies. Looks like the sodas won't be free this year in Oakland!
