  1. Yeah I've been hearing this s*** as well. I suppose anything is possible, especially since Shapiro didn't sign him but I don't trust Goins to be the starting SS at all.
  2. So what would the + be that would somehow swing a Stroman heist for Cleveland "to the other way"? Unloading some bad contracts? I'm confused.
  3. I'm sure it's possible he'd take the job. I don't know how much money influences him. Sounded like he had a pretty sweet deal with the Jays lined up since it included that option but he turned it down.
  4. His moves were fine and he's a very good GM, maybe the best. That said, his skill set is completely overrated and he's hailed as some sort of genius when in reality there are thousands of people out there who could do a similar job to him by diving in to advanced statistics like he has done. There might be people on this board who could do it. Where Friedman rises to the top is because ownership around baseball is bad. The Phillies suck because of Ruben Amaro no doubt, but they also suck because their ownership hired him. Having good ownership is more important than having a good GM. Think about it this way - the Rays can overcome the loss of Friedman but could they overcome the loss of Sternberg? I'm not sure that they could. If the Rays had a bad owner not only would they be consistent cellar dwellers they would likely leave Tampa or just fold altogether. Loria killed the Expos, it wasn't the fault of bad GMs. In summary what I am trying to say is that Beane, Theo, Friedman, etc. are all very smart guys but their skills aren't that exclusive or special.
  5. I don't see AA take a job with the Marlins. AA is clearly very particular about the "fit" and I don't see him fitting in with Loria.
  6. So if we traded a 4 WAR offensive player for a 2.5 WAR pitcher and our runs scored dropped by 80 and our runs prevented improved by 20 you'd like that? To me you evaluate each position individually and improve the positions that are easiest to do so.
  7. Yeah his bat is fine. Steamer projects him for a .343 wOBA which is better than your average RF. Not very good for a 200 million dollar player though.
  8. Yeah injuries is one thing but I am thinking foot speed declining and how that would affect Heyward's elite defense and good baserunning. If he loses that he gets mediocre very quickly bc his bat isn't the greatest.
  9. Are there any studies on large players aging more quickly? Heyward's value revolves largely around defense. At 6-5, 250+ is it a concern that his defense will drop as he ages?
  10. Subtracting a 4 win player from the team and adding prospects isn't going to help us. To answer your question, yes, risking them walking and getting picks after they provide us 8 WAR in 2016 isn't the end of the world.
  11. I'm not sure but it would be pretty bad philosophy for World Series contenders in win-now mode to deal very good big league players for minor leaguers.
  12. He did turn down the Orioles job a while back. But I believe that was due more to Orioles ownership than him not wanting to be a GM.
  13. This team is a serious World Series contender. Why would we start selling off our veterans for prospects?
  14. Damn, he won't even comment on if LaCava is a candidate. King, you laughed at me for saying the interim tag wasn't a big deal and now I hear crickets.
  15. Of course he is back, just confirmed by Shapiro.
  16. I have no idea I don't keep track of interim GM's really. When are GM's given interim tags instead of just being named the GM? Probably doesn't happen all that often. But regardless I don't think this means LaCava is a shoe in for the full time gig at all. He could end up getting it but an interim title doesn't guarantee it.
  17. What? Isn't it assumed that the Assistant GM becomes the Interim GM? What is so hilarious here?
  18. But I guess we will know more after Shapiro's press conference.
  19. Oh ok so it comes with the interim tag? This really isn't news then.
  20. Agreed. This is the best move from a PR perspective for sure. The casuals are mad as hell at Shapiro but if you offer AA a 5 year extension with an opt out, promote LaCava when AA bolts, and bring back Gibby (which they will but I think he'll have a short-ish leash) then whose fault is it other than AA's?
  21. You beat me to it. You can delete my thread.
  22. Well your team is not only in the bottom third it's dead last isn't it? But I guess I see what you are saying but I like winning and find winning to be the most interesting of all. The higher the payroll in theory the easier it should be to win. So I'd take the Yanks payroll over our payroll easily. Just need a good GM to manage it and make sure it doesn't get out of control.
  23. 140 isn't the end of the world but was hoping for higher. It will be enough to add some FA's but we will probably need to make some trades as well.
