  1. Constantly in contention so the bullpen is always a focus. The payroll also allows them to sign Gerrit Cole and Rizzo and trade Cooper and Smith for guys like King. Then they can also sign Chapman and Britton, etc. Now that the Jays are in contention they’ll start working on the bullpen.
  2. The team is going to be in contention for the foreseeable future so if it's for someone with control I have no problem pulling the trigger. If it's just for rentals I probably would prefer they just go and get a depth starter or two.
  3. Springer has had a ton of check swings lately
  4. Oh I don't disagree. AAA is hot garbage. AA on down all have some interesting names though.
  5. Hatch had been pitching better since a rough April. He had 44 Ks to 11 walks in May and June. They gave him a chance and he sucked ass so he won't be getting another one possibly ever again. They acquired Banda midday and needed to make room so Castillo was sent down to AAA presumably to start so he'll be the next one up if needed. The team has a youthful core, a top offense and a very solid rotation. The weaknesses are rotation depth and the bullpen and I'm sure the team is itching to make some trades to address that it's just not quite time yet. Plus, you have to factor in where we are at. The team isn't catching the Yankees but is very likely to make the WC so there's no sense panicking and forcing trades early. Some deals will get done at the deadline you crybabies!
  6. That would be short rest for Stripling and Manoah.
  7. Who would you have used instead? We have a playoff team but the pitching depth is garbage. I'm sure Atkins knows this and will address it at the deadline.
  8. Well they had a plan for Hatch and Lawrence in the second game but when one of the top starters in baseball takes a liner off his leg that plan goes out the window. It's s*** pitching depth culminating with some bad injury luck today and the results are UGLY.
  9. Yep punting two games in one day, can't say I've ever seen that before lol
  10. Yeah I think Jansen or Moreno are trade bait. Failing a trade, I think I could see them keeping all 3 up and having Kirk become the near full time DH while catching just once a week or something. If he's our new cleanup hitter it would seem like a good idea to keep his bat in the lineup as much as possible. Jansen and Moreno can split time with Jansen getting some pinch hit opportunities and Moreno getting some pinch running. The third option is to option Moreno.
  11. Well that explains it. I'd probably have millions of likes if you all weren't on your phones.
  12. What would you do when Jansen is back? Keep all 3? How would you allocate playing time? I'm curious to see what they'll do.
  13. Keep feeding him drinks it's starting to work you guys
  14. I thought those last two posts would get me a ton of "likes" but I only got 2. Not sure if this board doesn't like having fun anymore or what.
  15. What do we want Correa for?
  16. To add to Spanky mentioning the Astros maybe the Giants too? Maybe the Indians or even the Mets?
  17. Nah they just haven't even bothered pouring resources into it. They took over an old team and tried to keep it going for another year but otherwise they haven't even really tried to contend until last year (they sort of started to try in 2020). Like most smart front offices the bullpen is the cherry on top. You keep pointing to the Yankees and Astros as teams that are so great at building a bullpen but they are perennial contenders, of course they are constantly signing and trading for relievers. When you aren't contending it's just hard to justify adding high leverage relievers when the major offseason moves consist of signing an aging Curtis Granderson to a one year deal to hit in the heart of the lineup. Up until now there are some years they didn't even sign a reliever to an MLB deal. Other years they'll sign a Joe Smith or Oh for peanuts who will pan out just so they can flip them or they'll sign a JP Howell for nothing and they end up sucking. Either way, they've barely tried on the bullpen. Our CL is a Rule 5 returnee and our setup man was literally acquired in a trade for Joe Panik lmao. Yimi Garcia's 1 year 6 mil deal is the biggest deal they've made for a reliever. The bullpen can literally be fixed in one trade deadline. If not, it can be fixed in one trade deadline and one offseason. All they have to do is finally try and now that the FO has built a contender they will definitely start to put more of a focus on that part of the team.
  18. Oh ok I see now. So we need to make better/more trades or free agent signings? Seems like one trade deadline can bring significant improvement then.
