  1. Yeah and it seems like a lot of the bad contracts came at the directive of ownership though I don't know that with 100% certainty. There doesn't seem to be a long term plan where they are building for something. It's an aimless organization with a good but not great payroll and the expectations of winning. Bloom seemed to be doing ok, even with one hand tied behind his back. But he was shown the door.
  2. Any Canadian who cheers for the Red Sox should be deported immediately.
  3. Owner interference seems to be a factor and is often cited as the main reason GMs don't want to go somewhere. I remember when Keith Law turned down the Astros back when they were the Lastros and he cited owner interference. They are perennial contenders now but it seems like the owners do in fact interfere there as evident by the Click situation. I thought he was crazy but in hindsight it is best for all parties involved because it would have been hilarious to think of Keith Law and his brand of outspoken far-left SJW politics (reported myself already don't worry) running a team based in Houston, Texas. lmao With the Red Sox it seems like the team was forced to trade Mookie Betts and then just a couple of years later it seems like they were forced to spend money. That kind of yo-yo'ing has to be extremely frustrating for a GM.
  4. There are 30 GM jobs in all of baseball. Getting turned down multiple times is ROUGH. I mean Ng took the Marlins job for crying out loud and that's got to be one of the bottom 10 of the 30. But she's too good for the Red Sox? The Red Sox are either a dumpster fire or there is industry chatter that they already have their man and people like Click and Ng don't want to waste their time. Or perhaps it really is just unique personal decisions from Click and Ng. But I prefer to ignore that and dunk on the Red Sox instead it's more fun.
  5. Lmao hilarious. First Click now Ng.
  6. He's going to be in the best shape of his life come spring training time.
  7. Yeah I agree. He does seem risky but the upside is there. If we truly want to add more power he's a good fit. Horwitz/Canha is probably just as good offensively and also provides some defensive value (Canha in particular) but it's more AVG/OBP. Soler could hit double the amount of homers as those two. If we did sign him we might as well trade Horwitz. I think a cheap team might be interested in 3 pre-arb years of a guy like him.
  8. He'd be dirt cheap but idk how good he is anymore.
  9. Wow Jim, Spanky brought some receipts bud
  10. There's the old saying TINSTAAPP. That also extends to Catchers. TINSTAACP. We had a young C with HoF comps, a good veteran and a top prospect. For a contender in need of OF help, trading the prospect for an OF coming off a 5 WAR year made sense. Now the trade looks like it might be blowing up in our faces (it's not a foregone conclusion yet) but that doesn't mean the thought process behind it was bad.
  11. Player development is non-linear, even more so for Catchers. Danny Jansen is a pretty good example. He was an offense-oriented prospect, couldn't hit for s*** when called up to the bigs but was a defensive stud, and has now settled into a pretty solid power-hitting Catcher with good but not great defense. Heck, even veterans experience a ton of variance year to year. JT Realmuto seems to alternate between a 128 wRC+ bat or a 107 wRC+ bat each year.
  12. 3-4 weeks with abuela during the holidays sounds like a recipe for disaster. He might lose 40 pounds alright, but it could be after he's already gained 40 during Christmas.
  13. Yeah he'd be a good target. Corner OF and 1B and could even play some CF in a pinch.
  14. Kirk is only a year older it's a pretty fair comparison.
  15. Horwitz the strong side platoon DH? Then maybe get some passable corner OF type that can mash lefties to pair with him?
  16. Vlad 2024 revenge tour starts now. Extend him now while we have the chance.
  17. Late season addition who has some big time potential as a reliever. I only know of him bc I picked him up during a fantasy playoff run.
  18. Dean, you are obsessed with Ross Atkins. Every single post mentions him and it also usually contains references to oral sex or cuckoldry. You might want to bring this up at your next court-ordered session pal. Only trying to help.
  19. You're making a good point even though you're being purposely obtuse to try and discredit any changes to the current playoff format. A long regular season isn't the perfect way to determine the best team. There's still plenty of randomness and chance involved. It's simply the best way.
  20. I don't think so Dean. I'm able to separate my fandom of the Jays from discussing the intricacies of the game. All high-level baseball sabremetricians think like this.
  21. Those are good ideas and I think that would strike the right balance between the good things playoff expansion has added (more teams trying, better trade deadlines, casual fan interest is up, etc.) while doing a better job to determine the champs. I do think there is a chance things could change. If we get a few World Series in a row where mediocre teams with tepid national interest play each other (Twins vs. D-Bags or something like that) that is going to lead to some pretty horrible ratings. At that point I think MLB will do something.
  22. OP is right to ask the question. Baseball is a game filled with small subtleties and randomness unlike any other sport. A 162 game season (or 154 if you prefer) is a great way to determine who the best teams are. A tournament is a HORRIBLE way to determine that. Doesn't matter how many games the series are it will always be horrible. That doesn't mean you can't enjoy the tournament. But once you realize what it is it DOES dampen the credibility of the playoffs.
  23. I'm not going to speculate on why you are getting targeted with dildo ads
  24. Lol you don't get your top choice a lot of the time, especially if you're the Marlins. Doesn't excuse you when your #2 choice falls flat on his face like Segura did. Did she also prefer someone else to Avisail Garcia? Both were awful signings.
  25. The AI has picked up all the talk about man tits and fatties so it's suggesting targeted bra ads to the board
