    These workouts and dieting could be good, even if it's his brother and sister and law. I don't think it takes a genius to get in shape nor does it take a genius to tailor the workouts to baseball either. I'd prefer it was with someone with a proven track record but as long as he takes it serious I'm sure the 3 of them can get him into shape. But that's only half the battle for him. His pitches flattened out a lot so he's got to find the mechanics that he was using in 2022. That's where you want to see him in a driveline type atmosphere.

    Creating something out of thin air is as much a result of necessity as it is anything else. Baltimore simply has to because they are cheapskates. If the Jays have a hole at DH, Atkins isn't going to be dumpster diving for the Ryan O'Hearns of the world to fill it. Instead he signed Brandon Belt on a 1 year deal and he pumps out 2.3 WAR in 100 games. He also got 45 homers out of Semien on a one year deal and a Cy Young out of Robbie Ray on a 1 year deal. For a top 10 payroll that kind of stuff is similar to creating something out of nothing.

    Yeah exactly. His platoon splits were totally wasted in the playoffs (oh wait, the Twins started righties both games). For sure. He's not a difference maker with the stick but Ketel Marte and Christian Walker totally are.

    Yeah, exactly bud. Let's be realistic. The Jays offense struggled and don't have high end bats to make it far in the postseason. The Diamondbacks's bats never struggled and they have plenty of "high end bats". All we have to do is just ignore the numbers, make strawman arguments, and then change the parameters of the debate to all of the sudden start comparing Jays hitters to Yordan Alvarez (while ignoring how the D-Bags hitters compare to him)! It's crystal clear!

    Yeah exactly. Brandon Belt (138 wRC+ this year, wRC+ 125 in his career and a 2x WS champ) isn't a high end bat that leads to success in the playoffs. Neither is Bo (125wRC+ this year, 127 career). And definitely not Vlad (118 this year, 130 career). But the Diamondbacks on the other hand, DEFINITELY have the big bats needed. Corbin Carroll (133 wRC+, 131 career) is that guy. So is Ketel Marte (127 wRC+ this year, 113 career). Christian Walker is that guy as well (120 wRC+ this year, 111 career). Those are the star bats necessary for playoff success.

    So what you’re saying is that they played over 3 months of s*** ball to go from leading the division to having a negative run differential? And that’s supposed to make me think they they are good? I think jt actually proves the opposite

    Phillies just weren’t built for playoff baseball like the Diamondbacks are who are just too young and too energetic.

    No Hanton said that we have a long way to go because almost no one in our starting lineup could start for any of the 4 remaining teams. I replied that I thought we were better across the board over one of those four remaining teams and then it was back to beating the dead horse!

    Connor cracked the code you guys. Christian Walker and Ketel Marte (both with career a OPS under .800) are the true "star bats" necessary for playoff baseball success. Someone get Andrew Friedman on the phone because Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman ain't it. You need real stars like Christian Walker and Ketel Marte.

    If you guys think the Diamondbacks are NLCS material then let's make a bet on if they make it that far next year. I'll even give you odds. 3 to 1, 5 to 1, you name it. This year is a fluke and you all know it.

    Lol whatever team ended up doing well you'd have some sort of post hoc explanation on why they are actually a great team. And yeah Marte is crushing it. Caroll is doing well but nothing amazing (.800 OPS) and Walker is doing ok (.726 OPS). But really it's their .750 OPS "depth" hitters that you claim can't hit in the playoffs that are getting them through. Moreno, Perdomo, Alek Thomas, etc. Even the supposed "ace pitcher" that you guys kept pointing to as some sort of proof of why they are a dangerous playoff team has an ERA well over 5.

    The Phillies definitely have a good roster. They won 90 games and had a +81 RD. And that's with Schwarber having to play the field a bunch (that alone cost them about 2 wins) and Trea Turner playing like complete ass for half the year. Both of those are fixed now so they are more like a 95 win team based on that alone. But they also have great pitching as they lead the league in pitching WAR this season and a lot of power. The only knock is defense but that's been fixed to a large degree with Schwarber DHing. So they definitely brought one of the best 26 man rosters to the playoffs. But of course, they are also one game away from getting bounced by the Diamondbacks who most definitely did not bring one of the best 26 man rosters to October.

    It's really hard to make these kind of arguments when the Diamondbacks (-15 run differential) are 1 win away from the World Series. We beat them across the board...lineup, rotation, bullpen, etc. Nearly everything.

    I'm just kidding. I stuck up for all the fatties last offseason when people were dogging on them about being in their home countries instead of the lab. I'm really happy to see him hit the training facilities early.

    I don't remember this all 100% clearly but it seemed to me that ownership was clearly involved in the Betts trade as they attempted to tightly control the PR of it. They made the trade but got a ton of backlash on it so they waffled on Brusdar Graterol's medical records. They got a slightly better version of the deal but everyone on all sides were pretty pissed about. Then a bunch of crap happened with Verdugo (he was hurt and had some off field stuff). If ownership isn't involved in baseball decisions then why are they making public comments on everything all the time? Henry has also consistently bundled the PR around payroll. Saying it's going down then claiming her never said that and then claiming it was going up again and it didn't really. There is no real reason for that team to have to yo-yo payroll like this (they were 13th last year) unless ownership is directing it. I guess that's what ownership does but that team should have consistently strong payrolls. 13th highest is embarrassing for them. It all just reeks of ownership meddling.
